Agreed on the "who cares" train. Loved the Fab 5, it was fun. Too much drama for a team that never won anything. They were cool and really fucking good, but didn't win......anything. Move on, I'm pretty sure the rest of us have

"Too much drama for a team that never won anything"

This is a seriously crappy take.  They made it to two NCAA Championship games in BOTH years the Fab 5 played together.  That means they won a ton of games and two regionals.

Believe it or not, there are many wins and accomplishments worth celebrating outside of winning a national championship.

There is not a single team in the history of college sports that is still remembered and relevant like the Fab Five.  That this is the case speaks volumes about the prestige of Michigan.

The "who cares" line has an easy answer - essentially everyone that isn't a curmudgeon.

Chris Webber has been lying about just about everything since the Ed Martin stuff came out, and it's obvious. He threw Ed under the bus, has fired vague shots at Jalen, backed out of the doc, and now in these interviews has given his version of events which has continued to be incomplete, inaccurate and inconsistent.

It's honestly sad, because he's out here projecting a God fearing, spiritual image while not coming to grips with his own actions. He honestly can't be honest about his own feelings, and in these interviews has said other dumb shit like he'd rather be a leader on a team that doesn't win a championship than a role player (specifically a veteran star who joins another star's team) who wins one.

The worst of it is he plays the victim when he has caused the most harm to his teammates, and then has the audacity to call out Jalen for "code breaking" when Jalen has been explicit and consistent about everything that happened. Jalen has been obviously honest especially on things that put him in a bad light. Chris Webber is a phony, but in the end his extraordinary talent got him rich and in the HOF. I just wish Chris would get over himself. I don't believe a word he says when it's his word against anyone else's.

"But I can assure you I made no apology to Chris"

What is the point of even saying this? I just don't get it. A Fab Five reconciliation is wanted by fans and would be a huge money maker for the university

A non-answer isn't needed. Something more forthright is needed. Even if Webber is misremembering/misreporting the conversation, he could say something like:

"What was said in a private conversation is between him and me. I don't recall those exact words, and I wasn't even with the University at the time, but I do regret that a valued 18 year-old student athlete wasn't better protected. That would never happen now. "

I'm pretty sure you are 100% wrong in your take as a non-answer was called for on this very thing.

His providing an answer doesn't mean he is incapable of providing a non-answer.

So, why did Warde answer?  There are two possibilities.

1) He can't come up with a non-answer

OR

2) He wanted to provide an answer.

A person in Warde's position almost certainly has the ability to give a non-answer if they want.  Therefore, it seems much more likely that response was given because he wanted to answer.

Help me out. How exactly is a reconciliation gonna be a “huge money maker” for the university?

Is it going to be PPV? Is a network going to give M more money for televising a game where the Fab 5 are “re-united”?

Yes, it would be a nice moment but there is no significant financial upside the UM.

I get not wanting people to speak on your behalf. But can someone help me out with what gets accomplished by basically calling Webber a liar in a statement? Maybe I'm missing something but I didn't think what Webber said this week really put Michigan in a bad light, more felt like they were trying to mend fences.

I think it's mostly not wanting Webber to speak for you.  If the University is going to make a statement about the Fab 5 it should be communicated from the AD, not someone who may have a financial interest having a particular narrative.  I think it's a bad look all around but also, Webber doesn't need to tell ESPN during an interview that Warde told him something.

Sure, but Webber brought up this conversation and there really isn't an easy answer that Warde can give unless it's an official "we were wrong and should have supported Webber", which may be something they do in the future but, again, they may not want to do right now.

I think everyone in this situation comes across a bit badly, but I still think the reason I hold back a bit absolving Webber is he just has never accepted responsibility for his role in it all.

Where in the article (or elsewhere) does Webber name Warde Manuel specifically?  From the quote in the article, it's not clear he's talking about Warde.  It could have been Jim Hackett, or even Dave Brandon, who reputedly treated athletes as well as he treated fans poorly.

The reference I've seen is in this article wherein he says:

Webber: That's what happened. I was told [that] by the University of Michigan. I was told by the athletic director at the University of Michigan [Warde Manuel], that he was sorry. And he wasn't even there at the time [I was playing]. He told me that he did his research and that he needs to apologize. His exact words [were], he needs 'to apologize to the 18-year-old Chris Webber because we didn't protect him.'

As an outsider to this whole thing, everyone involved in this looks stupid and have looked stupid for some time.

Warde, STFU and stop rejecting good publicity - especially over something so petty and minuscule. Considering you run an athletic department that needs all the feel good stories it can get at this time, just let it slide instead of actively trying to come off like Jabba the Jackass.

Jalen, STFU (even if you aren’t involved this time) and reach out to your old teammate and bury a hatchet. Webber, STFU and learn to forgive without needing an apology to stroke you’re immensely oversized ego.

As I said, I don’t follow this story closely, but it’s stupid for all of these people to act this way. What a bunch of children being drama queens in the public eye.

Michigan’s biggest obstacle will always be Michigan.
