Here's to you, sir. Best line I've read on this blog in a while.

02/18/2019 - 1:41am I agree that Cliff Keen has…

I agree that Cliff Keen has a very high school facility feel to it; however, the wrestling practice facility (Bahna) is top notch. The guys spend most of their time at Bahna so I doubt the facility where they host duals is that impactful on recruiting.

What's holding the wrestling program back from winning a B1G tournament title is the same thing holding every other program back: Cael Sanderson and the machine he has built at PSU.

02/16/2019 - 12:19pm I wrestled in high school…

I wrestled in high school and once weighed in at 151 lbs two hours before a weigh in for the 145 lbs class. I thought I was screwed. I put on the sweat suit and alternated jogging and wrestling. When I jumped on the scale I weighed 142 lbs. Thankfully I didn't have to do that often.

02/16/2019 - 12:08pm I think the ceiling is…

I think the ceiling is similar to last year - 4th at NCAAs. PSU is a lock to win it once again. Iowa, OSU and the other OSU (Ok St) are the other top competitors, all safely behind PSU. I could see anything from 2nd to 5th.

02/11/2019 - 12:38pm I take it you don't watch…

I take it you don't watch much UM wrestling to be surprised by Malik losing a match. Nothing against the kid as he's been a multi-year starter for the program; however, he is an average NCAA wrestler. On the other hand, his younger brother, Myles, is a two time All-American and is currently ranked #3 in his weight class at 174 lbs. It's much more surprising when Myles loses a match.

02/10/2019 - 10:38pm What loss at Oregon State…

What loss at Oregon State for Micic? He got a tech fall win in his match. Also, Micic is unbeated this year. I'm pretty confident he wins a NCAA title this year. Look forward to seeing him compete against Daton Fix.

02/09/2019 - 6:34am Something tells me Fields…

Something tells me Fields wouldn't have been so horrified by the the racist slur if he had beat out Fromm and was the starting QB at GA. This transfer is 100% about playing time. Period.

Wolve1972... Just took a peek at your posting history. It quite literally looks like every post of yours has something to do with OSU. I see you sprinkle in usage of "Suckeyes" here and there to give yourself cover but it's pretty obvious you are an OSU fan. I just want to let you know it's okay to come out of the closet and post as your true self. Really, it is.

02/06/2019 - 1:43pm Always good to see bad…

Always good to see bad things happen to OSU. Let's pair this with a "not eligible" ruling for Fields and we're in business.

02/02/2019 - 12:42am Eh, three wins total. Storr…

Eh, three wins total. Storr with back to back disappointing performances. Massa wrestled better than I expected. Amine wrestled good but Hall is an amazing athlete. Parris with a tough loss but he was due for one of those. He definitely needs to get bigger in the off-season. Overall, a pretty decent showing against the best team in the country.

01/31/2019 - 9:52am Great video and thanks for…

Great video and thanks for posting. Regarding the timeout, what happened exactly? Did the officials assume they called a timeout and thus didn't throw the flag on delay of game?

Watching that clip I can't help notice that some things never change. UM is down by two scores with less than four minutes remaining and is huddling up and taking its good old time between every snap. We're lucky that we had Tom Brady on that day.

01/26/2019 - 12:40pm Micic's path is a little…

Micic's path is a little more clear to a national title with Seth Gross out for the year. Hopefully he beats DeSanto's (Iowa) ass again like he did at NCAAs last year. That kid bothers me with his antics. Strong competition with Suriano and Fix in the same weight class. Can't wait for March!

01/26/2019 - 12:28pm Yep, tournaments allow for…

Yep, tournaments allow for the compounding effect of bonus wins. Michigan doesn't have many bonus win guys so tougher to hang in those meets. PSU is so dominant because the four guys noted above getting pins and tech falls through most of the tournament. For the same reason, OSU will probably finish ahead of UM in the B1G and NCAA tournaments - more bonus win guys.

01/26/2019 - 10:17am Agree on recruiting. The…

Agree on recruiting. The rankings are more meaningful in wrestling because the best directly compete against each other in national tournaments, so we know who the best kids are going into college. Bormet seems to have a knack for recruiting so should be fun moving forward. We have some top freshman in redshirt this year and a couple horses lined up in the next class (McHenry and Amine). PSU will always be tough but it will be hard to replicate the quality of lineup they have this year and past couple years once Nickal, Nolf, Joseph and Hall graduate (all of whom are juniors and seniors).

01/25/2019 - 11:44pm Great team win tonight over…

Great team win tonight over the #2 ranked Buckeyes in their home gym! Mason Parris with a clutch win in the last match but this was truly a team effort as our 184 and 197 guys both wrestled tough to mitigate bonus points for two studs in OSUs lineup.

Michigan's #1 ranked Micic (133 lbs) looked fantastic against Pletcher. If he keeps wrestling like that he's going to win a national title.

01/19/2019 - 9:45am I agree with this. PSU has…

I agree with this. PSU has the #1 ranked wrestler nationally at 4 out of 5 weights in the middle of their lineup. Michigan has one guy ranked #1 (Micic) who is there kind of by default. Tough to beat PSU with those kind of horses who rack up bonus points against most competition (pins and large point differential wins).

01/12/2019 - 12:06am I'd rather he was at the…

I'd rather he was at the office tonight preparing for OSU.

01/11/2019 - 1:13pm Not sure what the confusion…

Not sure what the confusion is on the OSU-MSU scheduling. Sure we play both at home or on the road in the same year but MSU has the same deal where they play us and OSU on the road and at home in the same year. OSU has the same thing with MSU-PSU. And PSU has the same with UM-MSU.

Something tells me that over the next few years if MSU falls back to its historical levels of performance we'll be happy to have OSU and PSU split each year as those are likely to be the marquee East division games in our schedule (I know, maybe I'm getting ahead of myself with MSU but they do seem to be trending downwards).

01/11/2019 - 1:00pm I agree. I'd rather play…

I agree. I'd rather play real (but not elite) competition in the OOC schedule than cupcakes. At least with real competition we all look forward to the game, get a little nervous, over analyze the possible outcomes and are likely to stay engaged the whole game. With cupcakes we get none of this. I'd rather have that experience as a fan more often in the regular season at the risk of not making the CFP than to load up on cupcakes for the possibility of making the CFP which, let's be honest, might happen once a decade even with cupcakes on the schedule.

I think OSU has just consistently been a better team than us and that explains why they do better in bowl games against top competition. Over thinking it if we try to attribute bowl performance to timing of final exams.

Olave was a 3 star. So even worse.

Apparently Day took Sarah Harbaugh out for a romantic dinner last week. May be the third domino to fall.

01/08/2019 - 4:56pm Bingo... I struggled to get…

Bingo... I struggled to get through the Amazon series because it was so uncomfortable watching JH. I've been thinking "if I think he's weird from watching him on a TV series and listening to his podcast a couple times, what must the players and coaches think that are around him every day?". I'm pretty sure that's why Wheatley left and probably contributed to some other turnover.

This is a joke, right?

01/08/2019 - 4:10pm Great post. I get the point…

Great post. I get the point about Brown running almost exclusively man to man. However, our offense must get zone looks from the scout team defense during the week since it's their job to mimic the opposition's defensive tendencies. If the opponent plays lots of zone then our scout team defense must be doing the same.

I vote for football factory.

01/07/2019 - 11:09pm Was about to post the same…

Was about to post the same thing. He's guaranteed to be #1 pick when he's eligible. Any college game between then and now is meaningless in the bigger picture.

Also, he's the kind of guy that could really put pressure on the 3 year rule. It's really dumb a supreme talent like him can't go to the NFL in April.

01/07/2019 - 11:04pm Bama getting Bama'd

Bama getting Bama'd

01/07/2019 - 11:03pm Justyn Ross... If he went to…

Justyn Ross... If he went to UM he'd have had 9 catches for 112 yards this season.

Also, kind of scary the recruiting analysts had Justin Fields rated just slightly behind Lawrence last year.

01/07/2019 - 9:40pm The differences are vast. We…

The differences are vast. We'd lose by 4-5 TDs against either team.

01/06/2019 - 11:24pm Whether Enos is worth a shit…

Whether Enos is worth a shit or not one thing I think we can all agree on is that he made the right decision for his career by bolting for Bama and Tua when the opportunity presented itself.

01/06/2019 - 10:43pm Close game because of…

Close game because of Clemson's D-line. Bama pulls it out at the end 30-27.

I really don't care who wins. I dislike Bama more than Clemson but I'm bored with both teams at this point. Really just want college football to be over at this point so we can officially start to delude ourselves about a potential B1G title and CFP appearance based on snippets from spring camp and before and after Twitter photos from the weight room.

01/06/2019 - 6:42pm When will JB open up the…

When will JB open up the offense? So much talent on the floor and we're wasting it every game.

01/06/2019 - 5:56pm Yes, he should have a great…

Yes, he should have a great career at UM and beyond. A couple things going against him though as far as being a national champion at some point in his career: 1) He's pretty small for the 285 lbs weight class, and 2) Gable Stevenson from Minnesota is also a true Freshman. Stevenson appears to be a once in a generation type talent at 285 so it will be very tough for Mason to beat him. Kind of like Coon and Snyder the past couple years. Too bad the NCAA doesn't have a 220 lbs class. Mason would dominate that class.

01/06/2019 - 3:19pm Pretty sure he was referring…

Pretty sure he was referring to one of the two wins for ASU at 157 and 165. However, I disagree that either of those are "shocking" given ASU had ranked wrestlers competing at both of those weights. At 157, Pantaleo just recently came back from a bout with mono, so not a huge surprise to see him lose to a ranked wrestler. At 165, Massa is pretty clearly overrated this year so that wasn't a surprise either.

01/06/2019 - 3:12pm Agree on Massa. Is the CKLV…

Agree on Massa. Is the CKLV where he was injured? I wonder if the injury is still holding him back or if he's just hit his peak (which equaled a 3rd place finish at NCAAs two years ago) while his peers have passed him up developmentally. Probably a combination of the two, which is unfortunate. I was really hoping to see him compete with Vincenzo Joseph last year and this year.

On a separate note, I saw that Cam Amine bumped up to 160 lbs (from 152 lbs) and beat Alex Facundo in the finals at the Detroit Catholic Central tournament yesterday. Terrific match decided in the UTB with a couple very close calls that could have swung it to Facundo. For those that don't know, Cam Amine is a senior at Catholic Central who is committed to UM and expected to wrestle at 165lbs. He's ranked #2 at his weight nationally. Facundo is from Davison HS and is (was) ranked #1 in his weight nationally. Facundo is only a sophomore so he's quite the talent (he also took bronze at the world championships last year). These two wrestled in the state finals last year (where Facundo won) and will likely get the rubber match there again this year if they stay at the same weight. Hoping that Facundo decides to wrestle for the good guys once he graduates.

01/06/2019 - 2:18pm I agree with you that most…

I agree with you that most won't make it to the NFL and they should take advantage of their educational opportunities. That's pretty obvious. I'm simply pointing out the reality that a large majority of H.S. seniors that are elite football players are primarily motivated to play football and try to get to the NFL; their primary motivation is not the education. Going to class is largely a hassle for many elite athletes in the revenue sports and many need significant academic support to graduate. Employers (other than the NFL) recognize this reality as well and that's why, by and large, their degrees are not worth as much as a "regular" student once they do graduate. This is the same point JH made years ago when he got on Lloyd's shit list. The charade is when we all pretend that these athletes should care as much about school as a regular student does, especially when we use that view to rationalize why we are not as competitive as other schools in the sports we care about.

01/06/2019 - 1:58pm Kevbo1, my sentiments…

Kevbo1, my sentiments exactly. I'm not buying into anything coming out of the program this off-season until I see change executed on the field and in big games (doing it against cupcakes doesn't count). The biggest obstacle we have to change in offensive philosophy is the head man himself. JH is the one who tells the story of Bo making sure he was going to use TEs and FBs in his offenses when he told him he was getting into coaching years ago. Until JH evolves past that approach we're going to be behind the curve.

01/05/2019 - 3:15pm Yep, like just like 80-90%…

Yep, like just like 80-90% of his peers. Let's drop the charade that high level H.S. football recruits should be as interested in a high level education as they are in preparing for the NFL.

Does lecturing an anonymous guy on the internet make you feel better about yourself? I bet it does.

01/04/2019 - 4:12pm Transfers do happen…

Transfers do happen. Michigan's starter at 141lbs (Kanen Storr) is a transfer from Iowa State. The starter at 197 lbs last year was also a transfer.

01/04/2019 - 3:52am Big win for Mason! Glad they…

Big win for Mason! Glad they pulled the redshirt and let him go after it. Looking forward to seeing him take on Gable Stevenson.

01/02/2019 - 8:16pm Curious to understand what…

Curious to understand what you see in the foundations for future wins vs OSU and B1G titles/CFP appearances? Like, specifically, what do you see? For instance, against OSU I see a program that is behind the curve schematically and in overall talent. Combine that with OSUs cultural edge on UM (as a program they hate us more than we hate them) and I don't see any evidence that we start to beat them. Sure, Day is taking over but you know Meyer is going to still have influence as long as he sticks around there. Kind of like Wisconsin's set up. I don't know. I really hope you're right but I'm having a hard time seeing what you're seeing.

01/02/2019 - 8:00pm Ha, that's not the problem…

Ha, that's not the problem. I'm more of an evidence based predictor of the future. Unfortunately, my prediction is based on the evidence from the Harbaugh tenure to date. Definitely a BPONE influenced prediction but seems most logical to me at this point in time.

01/02/2019 - 3:31pm I predict that over the next…

I predict that over the next 4-5 years this class will produce zero victories against OSU and zero B1G titles. I do think they will, by and large, have positive experiences at UM, win 8-10 games a year, get a good education and leave better men than they entered. That's about all we can hope for.

01/02/2019 - 2:49am Are going to say this 11…

Are going to say this 11 months from now when he takes over another blueblood program? Or are you delusional enough to think he stays on the sidelines in the AD at OSU for the next 20 years?
