Good luck to him. Hate to see him go but I have no doubt harbaugh will find someone good to replace him. Durkin is a great guy know him from back in the BG days.

I hope the Maryland adminstration and Under Armour are serious about the upgrades they want.

Good luck to him except for 1 weekend a year.

Which recruits are closely associated with Durkin?  We lose anyone committed or targeted to Durkin?

Wow.  That escalated quickly.

If true, I wish Coach Durkin all the best in College Park.   Three game shutout streaks are a kinda big deal - thanks for creating those awesome memories in Ann Arbor.

I think the fact that this all went down during the week he was supposed to be figuring out how to stop OSU and the read option is going to leave a bad taste in my mouth for a long time...

I get that he has to look out for himself but during the week of the Game, you need to be singularly focused on one thing and one thing only - stopping Ohio State's scary offense. Any distraction - and interviewing for a P5 HC job is a big one - takes away from that focus. And it showed by time in our performance this past weekend. Not a good look and I imagine that Harbaugh is pretty pissed right about now.

looked like the defense was pretty pissed too. There was some give up there that had a "to hell with this" feel to it during that game. This is a unit that was supposed to be largely in tact next year and it is not hard to believe that they were pissed that he was bailing on them.

if the defense played so poorly because of Durkin meeting with officials. But with how unprepared the defense looked then the timing of the hire, it certainly gives traction to those who believe he was distracted this week.

I'm not in that camp but it is a take I've heard a ton in the aftermath of The Game.

Why would he get shit?  The shit was our product on the field against OSU.  It's completely, 100% reasonable to assume his mind was elsewhere these last few weeks.  Sure sure, everyone wants to reference Glasgow... and sure, that hurt - but we went from stud's to dud's in the matter of a few weeks and it's hard not to point fingers here with probable cause.

a terrible ending to a promising coaching career. I wonder if Durkin and Marcus Taylor have the same consultant. Maryland, huh? Best of luck. Gonna need it.

Bummer.  Was hoping he'd stay 1 more year and then we could get Shoop once Franklin was broomed out of PSU!

I know Maryland is not a "great job" because of the division but you simply do not turn down a P5 job at 37 years old - thats a huge accomplishment for Durkin.  His connection to both Harbaugh and Meyer has to be enticing - just boggled we had 1 good year of D and he is wanted and Chris Ash who has done the same for OSU for 2 years doesnt get a sniff.

Well we get to have a CC search ourselves this year after all!

The recruiting fallout could be enormous.  We need to splash with the new hire.

Also - and I hate admitting this but it's unequivocally true - I would be totally furious if I was Dontavious Jackson.

he'd take a couple years to capitalize his DC job at Michigan into something bigger.  Maybe I'm misreading the potential coaching market next year.

I think he could have done better than Maryland, maybe even this year.   You are guaranteed 4 losses each of your next 2 years there.

Yeah, I don't understand this at all.

We have a good D coming back next year, and all our main rivals will experience some falloff on offense next year.

One more year under Harbaugh and Durkin would be an absolute rock star.  Then he could do much better than Maryland.

Best of luck to him! It was great to have him on board and there was a real upgrade over the last few seasons. Looking forward to seeing who we bring on board next.

Goddamnit MSU can keep Narduzzi well beyond the point they should have yet we get one year (minus the bowl game, to boot) with Durkin? And he's bolting to be a head coach in the same fucking division as Michigan??? And of course THIS had to be the year in which elevnty billion coaching jobs are open around the country.

At least Mattison is still around to help with continuity (and I'm guessing he'll be temporary DC if Harbaugh can't get a guy before the bowl game)...

...but what the fuck, man?

Honestly, I'll be a little bitter about how he handled this for quite a while. It was a major distraction the week of our biggest game. May Harbaugh destroy him hence forth.

Neg away.
