If Peters or McAffery have hinted they might leave, this is a good move, we will need the depth.  And people will say what they want, but he had nearly an identical passer rating to Brandon Peters in more games last season, so he's basically statistically the same QB with more experience.

06/06/2018 - 10:31am Walker was the top RB in his…

Walker was the top RB in his class for a while, he had a poor showing at the All American game, but still ended up in the top 150.  You could see the talent when he got the ball, just never put it together.  Crawford had a great skill set save for the hands.

So, this interior O lineman that is possibly transferring.  Any speculation?  It's not Big Mike is it?

06/01/2018 - 12:36pm 2700+ yards passing. 500+

2700+ yards passing. 500+ yards rushing. 20+ TDs. On a top 15 and 10 win team. He as a sophomore last year, so yeah, some Heisman hype is expected. He also played in a few terrible weather games or he would have thrown for 3000 yards.

He’s young. He can really throw well in the run and has a decent arm. His team returns everyone. No surprise he’s getting some hype.

06/01/2018 - 11:06am Lebron hasn’t won a title

Lebron hasn’t won a title without at least 2 other all stars too. This year, his run has been historic and he finally beat some worthy teams to get to the finals. But he has benefitted greatly from playing in a historically bad Eastern Conferce the last decade. He’s only beaten a hand full of 50 win teams in the East during this 8 in a row run.

Take the Celtics, Pistons, and then the Magic out of the Eastern Conference during Jordan’s careee and you still wouldn’t have made it as weak as it’s been for Lebron.

I still think Lebron will go down as better than Jordan when his career is all said and done, but I also think some details are being overlooked. Basically, the last 10 years, 5 of the top 6 teams have been in the West and probably about 13 of the top 15 players. It’s incredibly unbalanced.

05/31/2018 - 11:51am The schedule is brutal. I

The schedule is brutal. I believe we will be better this season, but we could still have as bad a record. Last season our best win was at Purdue. This season we play 6 teams that are significantly better than Purdue and we play 4 of this on the road. We lose to Ohio. We lose 1 of 2 vs ND and MSU. We lose 1 of 3 vs PSU, vs Wisky, @NW.

Team could be way better and be 9-3. We could also be better and go 7-5.

05/31/2018 - 10:45am Floor is 6-6. Best case is

Floor is 6-6. Best case is 10-2. I see 8-4 or 9-3.

05/30/2018 - 12:47pm The second half of the

The second half of the Outback Bowl shook me. Well coached teams don’t collapse like that after 4 weeks of preparation vs the worst team we could have played. I was glad to see the coaching shake up. I’m at a wait and see, but I think 8-4/9-3 is our baseline.

05/30/2018 - 11:02am What time today? Noon? No

What time today? Noon? No news is bad news right?

I can’t believe he’s leaving. Not going to get drafted IMO.

05/26/2018 - 10:10am Kugler was at worst our 3rd

Kugler was at worst our 3rd best O Lineman.

05/25/2018 - 9:28pm Logan Brown is 10 times more

Logan Brown is 10 times more likely to bust than Dobbs. Brown should not be a 4 star much less a 5 star. I’ve seen him live, he’s slow.

People like to predict busts without really knowing. Dobbs is a good prospect.

Flip Spencer Brown!!! Way better athlete than the other two. By far the best athlete at O Line in the state.

Jalen Mayfield will be better than Logan Brown.

05/23/2018 - 1:26pm Lewerke wasn't a junior last

Lewerke wasn't a junior last season, he was a redshirt sophomore.  MSU has him for 2 more seasons.  For a young QB in his first full year he had some ups and downs.  His numbers were outstanding though considering he played in a few really bad weather games, could have easily thrown for 500 more yards if the weather was good for all his games.

If he takes a leap this year he will be on NFL Draft boards, he's got a lot of ability, and a live arm, can really throw on the run.  Some slight mechnical issues will improve his accuracy.  Listed at 6-3, but I think he's barely 6-2.

He's a good QB who could break out in 2018 with all of his top weapons returning and a more experienced O line.  He's proven more than Patterson honestly.

05/22/2018 - 11:55am I am alone here in seeing

I am alone here in seeing Patterson as a project this year.  HJe's coming from a single read offense with different footwork than what he'll have in ours.  He definitely has the tools, but it might take him a year or more to learn not only a new play book, but a totally new offense.  And Shea's stats last year were misleading.  Put up monster numbers vs terrible teams or in a blowout loss when he was passing on Auburn's 3rd stringers.  Looked average to bad vs LSU, Bama, and even Cal.

I know I will be alone in saying this too, but Peters has a 50-50 shot at beating Shea out to start at ND at least.  Peters has just as big of arm, is more of a drop back QB, and knows our offense.

I'm just as excited as everyone else that he gets to play this year, but fans need to pump the breaks a little.  Imagine if Peters wins the job, it's going to be njo good at all if our fanbase is immediately screaming for Patterson the second Peters has a bad quarter.

05/21/2018 - 2:08pm The break out player I pick

The break out player I pick is whatever position we most need a break out player.  Am I doing it right?

05/18/2018 - 9:49am Yeah, EK has crazy talent,

Yeah, EK has crazy talent, but they don't have very good football teams.  So you're getting kids with good measurables but questionable technique from there IMO.  I have a nehpew who played on the line there a few years ago and know a coach there too.  They'll have a team this year with a 5 star and several 4 stars and they won't come close to winning their conference much less winning state.  And they have the best track program in the staet, so they have speed to burn, not just size.

05/17/2018 - 9:50pm Fincher is an MSU legacy. I

Fincher is an MSU legacy. I like Mostella a lot though.

05/11/2018 - 10:42am Watch the film,. they played

Watch the film,. they played almost no defense.  Guys just jogged down court and shot uncontested 15 foot jumpers all game. Way more contact is allowed now.  More cheap shots were allowed back then though.

05/10/2018 - 3:30pm First, today's NBA is way

First, today's NBA is way better and way more physical than the 80s and 90s NBA.  It's not even close.

That being said, Jordan is still better, he was a more explosive athlete over all and a much better defender and a better pure scorer.Lebron is a better passer and is bigger and stronger.  Jordan is quicker and overall more ahletiically gifted.  Jordan was more competitive and had a better killer instinct, he also got more out of his teammates because he was a better leader.

WHo has accomplished more?  6-0 in NBA Championships for JOrdan is far great than 3-5 for Lebron as Lebron rarely beat a great team to reach the title.  Jordan had better sccoring stats, Lebron has better all around stats.  Both were the clear best player in the NBA for over a decade.

Right now Jordan is #1 all time, Lebron is #2, but Lebron is not done.  WIth the way Lebron trains he could still be the best player in the NBA in 5 years.  His longevity is going to give him all the records eventually.  Win a couple more titles and he'll pass Jordan IMO.

05/10/2018 - 9:44am Barnhart saw a serious jump

Barnhart saw a serious jump in his ranking, now a high 3 star at 424th overall in the country.  He camps well this Summer and low 4 star should happen.

05/09/2018 - 12:19pm The only video I saw of him

The only video I saw of him from last weekend was of Michael Fletcher blowing past him in one on ones.  He must have looked better in other reps.

05/08/2018 - 9:14am "Not looking right now." is a

"Not looking right now." is a far cry from saying, "I'm 100% committed and that's not going to change."  The right now part is an indicator of wavering.  Hear it in recruiting a million times, I'm committed right now.

Still, if he doesn't get accepted to Stanford he's ours.  He gets accepted to Stanford and we still have a chance.

05/07/2018 - 10:43am It is in fact a strong year

It is in fact a strong year for in-state recruiting.  Pretending guys are over rated just because they won't be picking us is folly.  Dobbs is a 5 star for a reason, he's a freak athlete for O line.  Logan Brown I am not as sold on, I know one of his coaches and have seen him play live.  Spencer Brown is way way under ranked and I still think we have a shot to flip him.Spencer Brown is a better athlete than Logan Brown and it's not close.

Julian Barnett broke his leg training, just got his cast off a couple months ago and still ran a 4.5 forty and had a 38" vertical.  He's over 6-1, and close to 195 lbs and has run sub 4.4 forties in the past.  He's a great athlete, but raw as a player IMO.

Dixon is a great athlete at LB too, 4.50 forty time at 6-3, 200 lbs makes him a freak.  Mangham is one of the most pursued RBs in the country, he has over 40 offers.

It's one of the strongest classes in the state in recent years.  I think there are a couple guys slightly overrated, but there are a few way underrated.  We'll get great talent, and I think we'll pull a few of the top guys in the state, it's a long way until signing day.  I think some of this is just chance though, Devontae Dobbs just doesn't like Michigan.  Dixon has MSU, Wisky, and PSU ahead of us.  We cooled on Grant.  Offered Barnett too late.  Mangham is probably going out of state.  Logan Brown loves Wisky.  Just one of those years.

05/06/2018 - 12:42am He’s passed Jabari and has

He’s passed Jabari and has his sights on th #1 spot which is still MJ to me, but Lebron still is in his prime, he could play 7 more years. I think he’ll go down as the GoAT.

05/03/2018 - 12:46pm Change can be good.  This is

Change can be good.  This is one of the instances of coaching turnover that I think will be positive right away.  Warriner has a good track record, I think despite losing our best O lineman, the O line will be better by years end.  Might not be good nat the start though.

05/02/2018 - 9:45am If Matthews is hot and has a

If Matthews is hot and has a good weekend I could see him grading very well.  Hope he goes cold and comes back.

05/01/2018 - 1:34pm That game was not at the Big

That game was not at the Big House.  MSU played us at their place in 2013 and again at their place in 2014.  Maybe you remeber 2012.

I went to a game with an MSU fan at the Big House in 2008, their car had MSU stuff on it, game went fine, normal fans giving him crap, nothing bad.  But his car was badly vandalized, someone smeared dog shit on the windows, slashed a tire, and kicked the door so hard it was totally caved in.  Other Michigan fans helped us clean the car up and change the tire so we could drive home.  I apologized to him the whole way home.

04/28/2018 - 3:59pm Peters beats out Patterson

Peters beats out Patterson and we go 9-3. Losses at OSU, vs Wisky, and @MSU. Close wins vs PSU, and @ND, and @NW. brutal schedule.

04/28/2018 - 1:05pm I get the heart concerns

At this point though, you'd think some team would take a flier on Hurst, if he's healthy enough to play you just got the steal of the draft and will look like a genius.  If he's not healthy enough to play, you only spent a late 4th or 5th pick on a potential stud.  The fans will understand.

MSU's Brian Allen got drafted by the Rams, surprise, was hoping he went undrafted to they would no longer be in a tie with us for the longest streak on having players drafted.

04/28/2018 - 12:18pm For a DT, Hurst was

For a DT, Hurst was absolutely historically great for Michigan.  2nd best DT I've ever seen play at Michigan and I've been watching since the 70s.  Mark Messner was the best.

04/27/2018 - 10:41pm Man. Terrible about Mo. Will

Man. Terrible about Mo. Will he go undrafted now? I know we’re all pissed and we thought he was cleared, but at this point there’s more to this than NFL teams following a rumor. They know something or some team would take him.

04/27/2018 - 9:55am First of all, Pro Football

First of all, Pro Football Focus is not even a point of reference for NFL teams, no NFL GM takes it seriously.

Mo is an undersized DT and a lot of teams are going to 3-4 where there is simply no role for a 280 lb DT who doesn't have the length to play DE.  His heart questions didn't help.  He was likely a late 1st round pick before his heart issues came up, but even then could have slid into the 2nd.  I think he'll go in the 1st half of the 2nd, but it would not surprise me if he drops further.  NFL GMs are followers and if other teams have questions about Hurst, they don't want to be the ones to take the chance.

04/26/2018 - 8:47am Didn't Wimbush lead Notre

Didn't Wimbush lead Notre Dame to a 10-3 record and a major Bowl win last season?  I don't get the over confidence about Notre Dame from posters here.  They will the favorite to beat us in week 1.

04/24/2018 - 9:34am Coaching turnover

I think the coaching turnover is having a negative effect.  Coaching continuity is important for home state recruiting.

While I'm not one of those fans who panics aabout recruiting or ever think sthe rankings are the end all be all, recruiting has changed significantly, these kids are developing long relationships with the schools they ultimately pick.  We've changed a lot of coaches in the last 3+ years under Harbaugh, some of these kids have been contacted by their 3rd Michigan coach for their position.

But, we'll get ours, probably a little bit of bad luck this year too.  A few of the top players grew up Michigan State fans.  A few others we aren't interested in, and a few others will be leaving the state.  It's a shame because this is arguably the best year for the state of Michigan for recruiting in many years, maybe ever.

We'll be fine, the thing about recruiting Michigan is that you get a kid that is much less likely to leave the program than if you get a kid from Florida or California.  They're close enough to the support system of home that they're more likely to be here ini 4 years.  Strong Michigan football teams should have a core of kids from the Midwest supplemented with talent from the rest of the country.

04/23/2018 - 11:09pm I went to Catholic Central

I went to Catholic Central and went to several games last season so I got to see him burying guys every game. Mayfield is mobile and quick, I’d take him over Logan Brown every day of the week. Saw Logan Brown play a few times live and he just looked like a big slow kid. But as I said, flip Spencer Brown and we’d be getting a kid with more athleticism than any of them.

I don’t know, maybe Logan Brown did really well at camps and was a freak, but on the field he was nothing special.

04/23/2018 - 10:57pm Logan Brown doesn’t hate

Logan Brown doesn’t hate Harbaugh. He just likes Wisconsin and they’ve been O Line U for a while. I too know a coach at East Kentwood and my nephew played there on the O Line a couple years ago. Brown’s coaches say he’s a good kid, really shocking to me he is a 5 star, he is nowhere near the recruit that Mayfield was last year IMO. Brown is a big kid who doesn’t bend and move anywhere near as well as Mayfeild did.

Devontae Dobbs, yeah, he doesn’t like us at all. MSU leads and by a good bit over Ohio State.

Flip Spencer Brown!!! I think we have a shot and IMO he’s more athletic than Dobbs or Logan Brown. Honestly, Spencer Brown is athletic enough to play the D Line. He moves better than either of those other two. Long story short. Dobbs and Logan Brown should not be 5 stars and Spencer Brown should be a mid 4 star at least.

04/20/2018 - 10:04pm Tweeted some pro MSU stuff

Tweeted some pro MSU stuff today. I think he lost his spot, didn’t pull the trigger fastball enough.

04/19/2018 - 1:23pm We still have a shot at Spencer Brown

I'd take flipping him over flipping Logan Brown, he's a crazy good athlete for a big man.  Dobbs just doesn't like Michigan, he's an MSU fan, Ohio State has a shot at him, but he's probably going to MSU.  Dobbs is an elite athlete for an Offensive Lineman, that's why he's a 5 star, there aren't many big men in the country as athletic and flexible as Dobbs.

And Belleville is becoming a pipeline, it's worth smoothing things out with them just to be in on Damon Payne in a couple years, at worst he's going to be a top 50 player at DT/DE.

04/19/2018 - 1:13pm And yet they have 2 of the 3

And yet they have 2 of the 3 highest recruits in the state, and 3 of the top 14.  And they have several underclassmen who will be 4 star kids.  Belleville is fighting for the 2nd most talent of any program in the State with Detroit King.  Not sure if they're recruiting or if school of choice is letting kids from the inner city go out to Belleville.  And Crowell still has pull with Cass Tech kids as well as King kids, he's 1 of the 4 or 5 coaches in the Detroit area you want to be in good with.

04/19/2018 - 1:04pm This is what I heard

He is still an option,. but Stewart took his spot and he was miffed and is pushing his date back.  Read Rumler and Stewart are the 2 tackles we are taking even though some people think of Rumler as a guard.

04/19/2018 - 10:06am These coaches are protective

Crowell coached Delano Hill, he's likely known Lavert for a long long time.  He's being protective of a kid he cares about.  Crowell and coaches like him really try their best to get kids out of the city of Detroit so they can pursue their dreams.  So while he's probably being a little over protective and I don't get the MSU love, I get wehere he's coming from.  Hill is a possible NFL draftee in the Spring of 2019, will NFL GMs now be questioning his toughness and his health because of what they've heard?  Will Zordich's words hurt his draft stock?  Maybe, maybe not, but I'm thinking that is where Crowell is coming from.

04/19/2018 - 9:29am Crowell coached Delano Hill

Crowell coached Delano Hill and Jourdan Lewis at Cass Tech, he had plenty of love for Michigan in the past.  I suspect he's known Lavert since he was a little boy and that's why he's taking this approach.

Crowell is a Wilcher protoge.  Not sure why the love for MSU.

I have heard that Dobbs and Barnett grew up fans of MSU and both never cared for Michigan.  That's probably why we aren't in it for them, some kids grow up rooting against a team and we haven't exactly been a powerhouse that either of them could remember in their lifetimes.  It's a shame since they are so close to Michigan Stadium.

And one of the next 5 star recruits from this state is a DT from Belleville, Payne.  We want in on a 5 star DT in our back yard and we will need to develop abetter relationship with his coach.  I also think that we should have pursued Davion Williams from Belleville for our 2018 class, Crowell says he's the best athlete he's ever coached (Note from above, he has coached multiple NFL guys).

04/19/2018 - 8:05am Crowell is a Wilcher protege,

Crowell is a Wilcher protege, he’s seemingly found a bone to pick with Michigan lately. Zordich’s public comments can be interpreted to be questioned a kids toughness, you don’t expect that from a position coach. Belleville is recruiting elite athletes to play there. If we want in on those, we should reach out to Crowell. They have 3 really good recruits in this class that We aren’t in on, and they have several kids coming up that will be high 4 stars and a freshman who could be a 5 star. Belleville is like 10 miles from our stadium, there’s no reason it shouldn’t be a feeder school for us.

04/16/2018 - 11:04pm Lewis is picking a MSU on

Lewis is picking a MSU on Wednesday.

04/16/2018 - 10:41am To be positive or bnegative

To be positive or bnegative has a lot to do with your personality.  I try to evaluate both sides.

I think our defense could be better even without Hurst, but his loss will surely be felt.  I also think McCray is a bigger loss than people admit.  But while we could improve on defense, our numbers might not be as good.  We play a much tougher schedule this season and this is year 3 of Don Brown in the Big Ten, no matter how good a coordinator is, opponents will eventually find and exploit a weakness or two.  Still, it's a championship caliber defense.

I am one of the lone voices of dissent here on Shea Patterson.  While his talent is evident, he really only thrived vs bad teams mostly at Ole Miss.  His numbers vs Auburn were in a blowout loss where Auburn was playing prevent with backups half the game.  I'm also skleptical of a single read spread QB coming into our system and setting the world on fire in year 1.  O'Korn showed us that even after 3 years with Harbaugh, a single read spread QB still can struggle.  Patterson has way more talent than O'Korn, obviously, but it would not surprise me in the least bit to see Peters beat him out to start this Fall if Patterson gets the OK to play.

O line O line Oline!  We lose our best tackle. We lose a decent center, but I think Ruiz can be his equal this year and be much better than him next year.  Love that we got a new O line coach.  Love that we have new WR coaches.  Our WRs were flat out bad last year, O is a big mystery, I think they should be better, but not sure why I think that.  Love hearing the offense is being simplified, but I think that is tricky, less formations is good, I think we had too many formations.  But the plays we called out of those formations were predictable, so if we're going to still be predictable, simplifying things could actually make us easier to defend not harder.

The schedule is tougher, by a lot.  We beat Purdue as our lone quality (barely quality) win. We play 6 teams this coming season much better than Purdue.  So if we aren't a lot better, 6-6 is our floor.

I see likely losses to OSU and MSU.  I see Wisky as a slightly likely loss.  I see PSU, NW, and ND as tossups. So 9-3 or 8-4 is our baseline.  Down vote away.

04/14/2018 - 11:12am Matthews?

Anyone have a thought on which way Matthews is leaning?  I'd think he'd at least get an evaluation.  With Matthews I think we're still a top3 Big Ten team next season.

04/14/2018 - 10:48am He was really close to

He was really close to leaving last year, so this is no surprise.  He's really imnproved, but somehow his draft stock is slightly lower after this season.  Obviously he needs to add a few pounds, but he''' be a good NBA stretch 4 or even a 5.

04/14/2018 - 10:09am Thw WR position was very

Thw WR position was very poorly coached last season IMO, the talent is there, but the players just didn't know what to do.  Better WR play last season and we win 2 more games.

One thing that is heartening to me ais that we had 3 obvious weaknesses, WR play, O line play, and QB play.  We changed coaches for proven winners at WR and OL.  We're hopefully adding a 5 star proven QB.  Recognizing failure is an important step to improving quickly.  NOw if it's all on the play calling, then we still might not be good on offense.

04/11/2018 - 8:19pm Recovery can cause a lot of

Recovery can cause a lot of weight loss. My brother had his out Spring if his junior year in high school and lost 50 lbs. Took him maybe 9 months to gain his muscle and weight back. This was the 80s, and he didn’t have the resources Aubrey has available to him. Could be a set back.
