I'm with you....my first reaction to this was "fuck off to Maryland you selfish bastard....couldn't wait a week to interview?".
But, I try to remain calm and think about how I would react if someone is dangling a multi-million dollar contract in my face. Good luck to him, I'll be curious what kind of coaching staff he can pull together when there are so many openings available to top assistants.

Also curious to see if anyone from the current Michigan staff goes with him.

Seriously. You can't tell me that the Maryland job would not still be there the day after the Michigan - Ohio State job.
Screw it then. I hope Harbaugh is interviewing somebody big the week of their conference championship or Playoff game.

Wrong guy. They poached our DC, not our special teams coach.

I was guessing that Mattison would be retiring sooner rather than later, but maybe not now.

Harbaugh's coaching tree grows.
December 2nd, 2015 at 1:55 PM ^
OK, does someone have a list of recruits that Durkin was the primary recruiter for? We already know Jackson, who else?
December 2nd, 2015 at 1:55 PM ^
A bit surprising, Durkin must really be a fast riser. Well, he can go 11-1 at Maryland, but no better.

Congrats to Coach Durkin! I always assumed he would be the first Harbaughssistant to get a head coaching gig. Just never thought it would be this quick!

We had three straight shutouts against teams that had little QB experience and the best part about our D (early on) was the defensive line (which is on Mattison). The linebackers sucked pretty much all year and that was Durkin's specialty.
I hope Harbaugh goes after someone like Jim Leavitt. Has ties to him and was pretty good at stopping the spread. Also, he should be able to recruit Florida since he coached there for 13 years.

Good luck to him, but this feels a bit early given he's been a full-time DC for all of 1 year.
Anyway, Harbaugh should be able to find someone else, if needed.

Youre really gullible if you don't think nearly every single school recruiting Gary is using their head coach as his primary recruiter, he's the #1 player in the country, you can bet he is the top target for everyone with his phone number.

I knew that Harbaugh would have a very fast growing coaching tree once he got here, I just wasn't prepared for it to start growing this fast. The mans got an exceptional eye for talent.

Sucks he's leaving after one year.

That's what happens to Harbaugh assistants. He's a great coach and leader, if you work under him people will want you.
Let's go get someone who will have, at worst, a neutral recruiting impact.

I just want to hire the next DC while Hackett is here. As long as we're still spending top $$$ for our coaches, we should be able to land a great hire. I just hope all the other defensive coaches stay here.
December 2nd, 2015 at 1:59 PM ^
It'd be nice if he can get Maryland good enough to beat OSU and MSU every now and then. As long as he never beats us. Best of luck to him in the future, hope his replacement is good too, but lasts a little longer.

I can absolutely see Durkin getting a head caoch position, but why would he go to a team in the division?

Good luck, D.J. Durkin. It will be fun seeing you next year in the Big House. Hopefully we bring in a winner on defense. We should be stacked next year on that side of the ball.

Yes he is good. He successfully implemented a scheme - man press - the Hoke's staff tried to do with the same players and got their fingers burnt. They quit after one game, ND.

Well, last week was a cluster. Due to this? We'll never know.
Thanks for your time at Michigan DJ. 3 straight shutouts is pretty darn good.
