You realize this only kills…

You realize this only kills the sickest of the sick and extremely old, no? Do you think they will live forever if not for this virus?

do you have any idea the quality of life in LTC or life expectancy there? It’s less than a year - trade your economic future for 5 months sounds like a really stupid idea but that’s what you’re advocating.

enjoy your high horse when you’ve lost everything you’ve worked for....I’m sure your kids will be super impressed you traded their future for grandma and grandpa who then died anyway a year later.

It’s how they did it back in…

It’s how they did it back in the day, dumbass. Worked pretty well then and worked well for Sweden today.

Yeah, total BS.

Just lock…

Yeah, total BS.

Just lock us up and let society crumble so the longest living generation in history can keep going another maybe 5-12 months.

Great idea...can’t wait to hear all you idiots backtrack when Biden wins and this all immediately goes away. Suddenly the tests will be “faulty” and this will be a slight worse year than the flu.

You do know Sweden exists,…

You do know Sweden exists, right? And they haven’t had any of the problems you’re worried about but go ahead and keep thinking we are all going to die or have long term health issues.

Wuhan, no vaccine, no long term issues either.

But yes, we’re all gonna die.....or have a heart issue . Lock us up!

Also, do the math on the vaccine for fucks sake. If only 40% take it and it’s only 40% effective that means only 16% of the population will have immunity? If that’s enough for you to go back to normal, why aren’t we there now when about 15% are estimated to have been infected?

Those are two very good…

Those are two very good reasons for 18-22 year olds to be on campus.

Such a waste of time...just…

Such a waste of time...just get together and let it run through the student population once and for all. Get it over with, there is no other way.

A vaccine is a pipe dream and this poses next to 0 risk for 18-22 year old students. Quarantine the faculty and let it run through the student body over the next two weeks. Start up school again after that, problem solved.

What's the point of testing…

What's the point of testing when even the NY Times says current tests are too sensitive and that we don't need to be concerned with 80% of the positives?

Zero point to all this testing until we fix that issue .....probably Nov 4th if I had to guess.

You should spend about 5…

You should spend about 5 minutes to learn a bit about Judi's House and what it does for kids and families who've lost a loved one. Might change your mind about Brian being "mediocre".

I'm not sure comparing…

I'm not sure comparing football to heroin is appropriate but football, on its own, is inherently dangerous. Guys on our own team have taken a hit and never been the same afterwards.

If the standard is no football until it's safe to play, that means no football in it's current format as it's extremely dangerous.

So I ask again, if this one…

So I ask again, if this one event is now blamed for 260,000 people getting covid, what happened during the protests the last 100 days? The magic of the masks saved everyone? If that's true, why can't LA county get their cases under control considering if they've had a mandate since May 14th?

Because the Democrats have…

Because the Democrats have nothing to offer...except the fantasy that all your expenses can be covered by the gov't at someone else's expense. Oh, and that working with China is a great thing that's good for everyone. Oops.

I'm sorry, but we are…

I'm sorry, but we are nowhere near the Ivies when it comes to application and acceptance rates. The requirements to get INTO an Ivy are absurd.

Stanford and Harvard are a pretty big jump above us.

Football drives a ton of…

Football drives a ton of engagement at the University and every time the team does well, applications jump. It's not as simple as separating the two.

Also, what happens to the students on scholarship if the AD has a $100mm shortfall. It comes out of the general, fund is my guess, so the University as a whole is definitely going to feel this. As are all the local businesses that depend on the University for revenue. I'm sure the town is really loving all the lost sales tax revenue and inevitable bankruptcies.

Will make a great buying opportunity for the University, though. I'm sure the town will love that too.

Why do we want more testing…

Why do we want more testing if the testing is so sensitive that it could be picking up dead fragments that are not a threat to anyone? If 80% of tests could be re-classed as negative by simply changing the cycle count, how useful are they?

11,000 new infections and 0 hospitalizations means we are working through the virus and gaining immunity. Why stop it now?

This is purely political…

This is purely political...the minute the election is in the bag, they will open up. Oregon just extended their state of emergency to Nov 3rd....not even pretending anymore.

They made huge leaps to get…

They made huge leaps to get to those numbers. Here's NPRs version - 260 cases out of 500,000 visitors.

https://www.npr.org/sections/coronavirus-live-updates/2020/09/02/908874086/states-report-coronavirus-cases-linked-to-sturgis-s-d-motorcycle-rally

If you can get to 12B in losses from 260 cases, imagine what the protests wreaked?

And yet.....NPR shows 260…

And yet.....NPR shows 260 cases linked to the 500,000 attendees which is about 0.052%.

https://www.npr.org/sections/coronavirus-live-updates/2020/09/02/908874086/states-report-coronavirus-cases-linked-to-sturgis-s-d-motorcycle-rally

Would be nice if they held their own peer review standards before publishing this kind of stuff. Or if not, why don't they do the same analysis for the protests that have been going on for months?

Better now than in the…

Better now than in the winter...

This is why it was…

This is why it was unfortunate we didn’t do more to let this go through the kids this summer when viruses are weaker than in winter.

wasted opportunity

I'd be great with capping…

I'd be great with capping foreign students at 5%...

If we eliminate foreign students, maybe "we" would stop building astronomically expensive new facilities that bring $0.00 value to the education "we" receive.

Tuition when I was there (out of state) cost me $100k. Tuition for my nephew, currently there, $270k. Number of students and faculty are the same as when I graduated 20 years ago.....you think the education he's getting is ~3x better than what I got?

Foreign students pay higher…

Foreign students pay higher tuition than in-state students but not out of state students. So every out of state student's tuition (like I was) is pegged at whatever the foreign student pays.....and the foreign student takes 10-20% of the available spots. Fantastic!

Meanwhile, our taxes directly and indirectly pay for the college system that foreign students don't need to worry about paying. Their payments into the system start when they are students and will stop if they leave. Sounds like an awesome deal to me.

Drop demand by 20% and watch tuition drop like a stone. What's driving our costs is not student related but capital expenditures - i.e., fancy new buildings.

We could make do without them....apparently, the Ivy League feels the same way as all classes will be online next year. Who needs new facilities when people will pay $50k for the prestige of your name anyway!!

Maybe if we eliminate 20% of…

Maybe if we eliminate 20% of the student body we might be able to get American kids in those spots instead.....or maybe, even better, tuition will come down finally.

Why is this a problem, exactly?

Kind of like early…

Kind of like early intervention with HCQ/Zpak and zinc? The one that has been wildly and erroneously vilified?

Yeah...wish we would have focused a bit more on that treatment as well. Would have save a lot of lives.

There's another study done…

There's another study done in France by Didier Raoult and another one by Zev Zelenko that show the same results.

And then there's the Lancet study that was so fraudulent they had to retract it.

Plenty of studies out there and the science community was super quick accept faulty studies and and super slow to accept anything that shows HCQ works.

Wonder why that would be?

I like this format but Biden…

I like this format but Biden needs to pick a VP for it to happen....6/23 and still no VP seems odd to me. Need to go back and see if that's in line with historical precedent but I don't think it is.

This was a missed opportunity to put U of M on the spot light. My faith in this institution is waning year by year.

You're right about covid not…

You're right about covid not being the flu....the flu kills kids, covid largely spares them.

Here's an interesting thought from Yoram Lass, the ex- director general of Israel’s Ministry of Health:

“If you look at the numbers, in 2017, 25,000 Italians died from flu complications. Now you have around 30,000 dying from coronavirus. So it is a comparable number. You should not ruin a country for comparable numbers.”

I wish this crappy website…

I wish this crappy website would alert you when you get a response because I'm sure you'll never see this but, no, I'm not ignoring it....NY has a higher death rate than Spain, Italy and other entire countries in the EU.

Spain has approx. 2x the number people and Madrid is roughly the same population and density as NYC yet it has lower death count as a country. That's crazy.

Maybe if Cuomo hadn't made nursing homes take in C19 patients he wouldn't be leading the US and a few European countries in death count.

We're there already!! My…

We're there already!! My social media feeds are FULL of puppy and kitten videos and they like each other!!! MASS HYSTERIA...

Because we are totally fine…

Because we are totally fine with these guys risking their lives for our entertainment almost any other year but this time it's different.....for "reasons". If you think these guys shouldn't play due to Covid, they probably shouldn't play at all given the very serious risk of permanent injury related to football.

Look at Newsome, look at the PSU and UM players in the 97 game who were lucky not to be paralyzed - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z0jMWdL4ZR8

...endless examples.

Then they should take a…

Then they should take a sabbatical year and hibernate and allow healthier/younger coaches to get some experience and a temp pay raise. They get a vacation, new generation gets a come up - win/win.

Then go to Lowes and vote…

Then go to Lowes and vote with your $$.

Destruction of our economy…

Destruction of our economy and removal of DJT from POTUS. Then, it's back to endless globalization.

"allowed to do plenty". . …

"allowed to do plenty". . . you almost sound like you think we should just shut up and be happy with what our leaders are giving us. This whole thing is such a sham. Can we move up the voting so we can get it over with already and get back to normal?

Cuomo is responsible for the…

Cuomo is responsible for the highest case count and death rate and this is considered a win? What the fuck is happening here?

Home....just discovered the…

Home....just discovered the joy of "reverse searing"...put the steak in the oven until it hits 120 degrees internal temp and the sear the outside at high heat until you get a nice crust. 1 to 2 minutes max. Best steak I've ever had.

To your point...LSU has a…

To your point...LSU has a lazy river on campus that spells out L S U. That really necessary? That improves the education you get? Nope, certainly increases the cost, though.

Other factor is the increasing number of foreign students. I sat on a plane with a USC board member the admission scandal was in full swing there. Asked what the hell was going on and he responded that 30% of student body is now from a foreign country, largely China, so competition is fierce. And foreign students usually pay full tuition, no discounts so that is why most Universities are targeting them more and more.

Rates have been negative in…

Rates have been negative in Europe for quite a while and you can get a mortgage of 80% LTV at 0.80% which is a floating rate loan based on Euribor + 1.50 the last time I checked. Fixed rates were in the mid 2.00% range for 20 years.

Inflation is an interesting…

Inflation is an interesting beast. If you look at things that matter, inflation seems to have gone through the roof - UofM out of state tuition is 180% more than what I paid 20 years ago. Health insurance has been on a tear of 10%+ a year since 2008. Rents, in my area, have doubled since 2012 and now we have 4%+ food inflation.

Considering education, housing, healthcare and food make up the "important" buckets for most people, hard to see how CPI is being shown as 1.8%. I know computing power has vastly improved relative to cost but who gives a shit about that when everything else is 10%+ a year off a MUCH bigger base price!

Fuck it, hang the banners. C'mon Warde, stand up for Michigan.

Did you intentionally omit…

Did you intentionally omit age from the list of confidence interval variables or was that supposed to be implied by "genetics" maybe? Because when 42% of deaths come from 0.6% of the population - specifically those above age 80, that would seem like a significant factor.

https://www.forbes.com/sites/theapothecary/2020/05/26/nursing-homes-assisted-living-facilities-0-6-of-the-u-s-population-43-of-u-s-covid-19-deaths/#606827a474cd

And I think the 42% is probably 10-15% too low given NY claiming 19% from nursing homes when almost everyone else of similar size and geography is at 50% or more and Canada is at 81% of deaths from LTCs.

and yet also....~328,100,000…

and yet also....~328,100,000 not dead.

Value up....how high depends…

Value up....how high depends on if we beat OSU!

That's an angle I had not…

That's an angle I had not considered...they value they represent TO the nursing homes. I was thinking more along the lines of individual earnings value where 80 year olds don't work so from a "wrongful death" suit value, they are on the low end of the spectrum.

This tells me the lockdown…

This tells me the lockdown was a mistake....the minute you open up, the cases will shoot up again and round and round you go. We can't do a national shutdown for 3 months for every month of open economic activity, it's suicide. This is an interesting interview from Johan Giesecke who is very well known epidemiologist from Sweden asking the Australians how they plan on managing the opening:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2SdUmsMLW0o

Per the CDC, IFR is 0.26% when you include the asymptomatic. This is just not as bad as everyone believes.

$10,000,000 is the value at…

$10,000,000 is the value at the high end of the earner spectrum, not the average. An 80 year old nursing home resident wouldn't get the $10,000,000 value but a CEO of a major company in his late 40's to early 50's would. Not many of those types died.

@KBLOW - It was never close…

@KBLOW - It was never close....please stop insulting people if you yourself don't have facts to back up your claims: https://www.npr.org/2020/05/07/851712311/u-s-field-hospitals-stand-down-most-without-treating-any-covid-19-patients

I'm with you ....median age…

I'm with you ....median age of death is 80, all with comorbidities. 50% of deaths in the US (80% in Canada) are in nursing homes. Why would a University need to shut down over this? If professors are at risk, let them take a sabbatical year.

The University isn't just…

The University isn't just shutting down and taking a year off while paying their employees. They are charging FULL CLIP for all students to then have an online learning experience vs. being on campus. Very magnanimous of them.

They have no idea if it's right but they know they can afford it so they do it. 40,000,000 other Americans, not so fortunate.

Yeah, I'm sure you guys were…

Yeah, I'm sure you guys were all super concerned last year when 50% of our 3,000,000 normal deaths were elderly folks. Where you guys demanding a shut down for them?
