Marcus Ray walks back his Purdue comments

Submitted by denardogasm on November 1st, 2018 at 8:50 AM

Like a true antagonizer in the vein of Valenti and Cowherd, Ray backtracked on his opinion that Purdue is the best team in the Big Ten this morning on WTKA, although somehow even less adeptly than those two. He basically said, “Oh I didn’t mean they were the best team in the conference, I meant they looked great and with the West up for grabs I was trying to motivate them... I don’t know why everyone made such a big deal out of it.”  Sam called him out and said ok Marcus, so without trying to motivate anyone, who do you think is the best team right now.”  Then he took the easy way out and said Michigan and Ohio State.  This guy is losing it.  He’s already lost all hope of a good media job. He should just go back to being a Michigan guy and maybe he’ll get some local work. Podcast should be up in a bit.

Honest question-does anybody know exactly why media outlets seemed so excited to give this shit-for-brains idiot a platform?  We've got well over 1,000 living ex-players to choose from if they want to put somebody on air and i KNOW that at least 950 of them are smarter than this fucking turd.

Can you blame me? We've got yet ANOTHER Marcus Ray said something stupid on the air thread (not upset at the thread-just not happy Marcus Ray and i went to the same school), a post highlighting again just how fucked up this Huel website is and apparently will remain being and just now a thread goes up claiming we should actually root for the worst possible outcome for Michigan cause the poster doesnt understand how the bowl committee works.

A lesser man would've killed somebody by now.

If you remember, when he first came back to this market, his personality was totally different. He almost seemed pathetic. He was fat and broke. Once he started making a little money, he became the Marcus who can't get out of his own way again.

I just listened to Jamie Morris' podcast from yesterday. Marcus tested this out on his show yesterday. He even threw Braylon under the bus if you caught that. Mind you, if you heard his segment on Chris Howard's show, he said he agreed with Braylon at the time. Having a Cluster B personality disorder must be a bitch.

He said the same thing yesterday afternoon on the Jamie Morris show. He was trying to fire up the West division.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with him. He just is trying his hardest for attention. He doesn’t like the spotlight being turned off. So I hope everyone will agree and keep it off of him. He’s pathetic.

This thread is more evidence that his schtick is getting him the attention he wants.

We keep saying we should just ignore him, and yet we (as a collective) don't.

Well I think Marcus Ray and his opinions suck. It's a shame too, because I really enjoyed watching him play for a legendary Michigan team. Too bad he feels the need to remain relevant for the wrong reasons.

Why WTKA wasted air time on him is a big reason he keeps saying dumb stuff.  If you just ignore guys like Ray, then nobody other than his family and friends have to deal with his laziness.

I have been around Marcus a handful of times as he is friends with some of my friends and it is clear that he is a nice guy. His radio personalty is confusing where it borders between contrarian to somewhat of an angry or bitter tone. I am basing this off of his show with Jamie Morris which, for all we know, could've been a lame duck scenario at the end as the show was unbearable.

Talking head talks too much. Makes outlandish claim/prediction. Proven wrong emphatically. Nothing happens. Talking head talks some more. This is modern sports media. Contributing random opinions without even the illusion of analysis.

One more reason to be grateful for the contributions of Brian, Ace, Seth and the rest for the staff at this blog over the years. #BeveledGuilt

I liked Marcus in the past - he gave some sobering truths about Michigan's team under the Hoke years when I wanted to believe we'd turned the corner.  He can provide good analysis.  But he always, always lets his ego get in the way, and he hasn't earned that.

I was fairly excited about his show on WTKA.  But it was bizarre - every time I tuned in he was mopey, egotistical, and even seemed disinterested at points.  Dead air.  I think he blames Michigan fans for that failure instead of himself.  I'd like to see him get back on track.

Marcus Ray once stood over David Boston and said "Don't you ever come in the Big House and talk trash again."

Also we need to get it right: Marcus Ray didn't play with Charles Woodson. Charles Woodson played with Marcus Ray. Was Charles on SI cover after beating OSU???
