Fun 'fact' - unscientific Jabrill 100m dash

Submitted by SpinachAssassin on

Peppers, in typical Peppers fashion, does not have a switch to go less than 100%. So I tried some unscientific timing to see what his runback clocked out to for that busted 2pt conversion.

- Picked up the ball at the 12.5 yard line, so 87.5 yards to run
- Three 'timings' of mine averaged to 8.76 seconds for those 87.5 yards

Equivalent 100m dash was 10.94 seconds. In pads. At the end of a game. Where he played 70+ snaps (per ESPN).

I'm looking forward to another seven games with him in the Maize and Blue!

way up after yesterday. He WILL be traveling to New York. And you're absolutely right--he punctuated a somewhat less-than-thrilling second half by making Mork Dantoni look really, really petty. In a weird way, it echoed the end of last year's game. The first time, they say, as tragedy, the second time as farce.

He was already moving, so you have to add a bunch of time to account for the deadstop start of a 100m.

Still, yes, he's quite fast.

EDIT: Damn it, beaten by carolina blue.

It was funny to watch him build his lead against the nearest opponent. He looked blazing fast even though he didn't need that much speed. He is so fun to watch

87.5 yards / 8.76 seconds = 9.989 yards per second

That would be an average speed of 20.43 MPH in pads and after being on the field for the better portion of three and a half hours.

That's impressive.

Nice to see the "Well actually..." crowd got some good sleep last night.

OP used "fun" and "unscientific" in his post and we've got a bunch of track experts out here trying to uphold the sanctity of the 100m dash. (And none of you knuckleheads pointed out that there's a difference between 1m and 1 yard...so take that!)

I like your post OP and was curious how fast he covered the length of the field.  +1 to you, sir.

Excellent perspective - logged in to upvote you. I have had more fun watching this season and players like Jabril Peppers than I can remember. I love these types of outtake from the game, especially memorable events like this that I'll remember forever, of celebrating with friends and family a great Wolverine victory! Definitely great to be a Michigan Wolverine!!!

Whatever all you track guys want to argue about is fine. Even if it never helps your claim that you were one of the fastest on a track but didn't have the elite closing speed or burst on the turf. I guran fucking T every one of you skinny geeks that Peppers is at a speed on the turf when he is running someone down that he could never reach on a track.

I think there's a good chance we're #3 on Tuesday night. This board will lose its mind, and I will be completely unconcerned. Still such a long way to go.

He's saying #3 in the CFP rankings, which I also see. Clemson may be 2 because they beat both Louisville and Florida State which is slightly higher competition than Wisconsin, Penn State, and Colorado, even if they only beat those teams by slim margins. We will probably still be 2 in AP and Coaches though. I

Carrying a football probably throws off a top sprinter more than the pads or helmet because it is assymmetrical and throws off the arm action. High end runners all are super smooth and anything that breaks that smooth line and rhythm costs time and slows them down.

Amazingly fast.
