|05/05/2018 - 4:40pm||Risk aversion at work||
The benefit in Capela's case is his next contract will dwarf Clarkson because he managed to not only make it through the rookie contract duration, yet is now proving to be quite invaluable to the Rockets' success. So I see Capela/Clarkson as a bit of an incomplete comparison.
Mitch McGary was 21st in that same draft and is out of the league. He got his rookie contract and that was it, so being a first rounder gets you paid even if you don't stick. It's a higher ceiling.
So if risk averse, go if only you will be in the first round to make some life-changing money. If risk neutral (or risk loving), give the 2nd round or UFA route a go and bet on yourself and make more money sooner (e.g. Clarkson).
Funny aside, I thought the name was "Van Bleep" whenever I heard it. Imagine my disappointment to learn it's "VanVleet"...
|04/21/2018 - 12:54am||Alas I only have but one upvote to give||
Clear as day now - thank you for the assist, brother! That was a rather funny back and forth haha
|04/20/2018 - 4:28pm||You made my day!||
The username was just from eating spinach because it's good for you. Yet the avatar came from an MGoBlog discussion with another user (I can't go far enough back in time to recall whom). A reference to the inimitable Hulk Hogan came up, a little Photoshop and *poof*, here we are.
This blog is fun :)
|04/20/2018 - 2:48pm||Well shit||
The Nights is one of my favorite songs, EDM or otherwise. I thought it was cool how his dad was in the video and they were just goofing around.
|04/14/2018 - 2:14pm||Funny you mention the Warriors||
An old-ish article, yet he graces the cover as a potential target for them.
Fantastic quote about dreams. I'll remember that and him. What an amazing run.
|04/10/2018 - 5:11am||I don't think I quite agree with the 'chilly' part in summer||
I grew up in Encinitas, north county coastal. Our house was about a mile from the beach or so. The weather is consistently awesome, and summer could get rather toasty the last 15 years or so. It would push triple digits at times due to a Santa Ana heatwave, otherwise 75-85 almost always.
Separately and to your micro-climate comment, San Diego is quite arid (I've heard it's technically a desert), so it can be either very hot at times or very cool. We'd occasionally have frost on the lawn in the morning. Nothing of note to Michiganders, yet not generally considered in the realm of possibility for San Diego. And this was still one mile from the beach.
|04/10/2018 - 12:48am||Perhaps Deadspin isn't mainstream||
Yet I go there just for the comments. Posters there are pretty on point.
|04/05/2018 - 3:38pm||Thank you for that||
I haven't laughed that hard in a little while. I humbly present my upvote to you sir (or ma'am).
|04/03/2018 - 1:35am||I so badly want Beilein to||
I so badly want Beilein to win it all and prove you can do it the right way. The time will come. Hats off to Nova - they played a hell of a game. And a most sincere thanks to Beilein and the boys. What a memorable season and a precursor for more to come. Onward!
|04/02/2018 - 11:36am||Villanova was the one team all tourney I didn't want to see||
But fuck it, who cares. Beating them will validate the entire tournament performance and tell everyone that said M only beat lower seeded teams to go fuck themselves.
71-66 good guys.
|03/31/2018 - 8:18pm||Well got damn||
One more to finish!!!
|03/31/2018 - 11:24am||Ack double post||
Nothing to see here
|03/31/2018 - 11:22am||The highs are great||
But the lows are way stronger in their suckitude
|03/30/2018 - 7:47am||I seem to recall an email||
congratulating me at 500 or 1,000 points. I was very proud in my nascent MGoBlog game. Maybe some larger threshold let’s you view all the infamous redlocked posts.
|03/30/2018 - 6:10am||Thanks Mitch!||
|03/30/2018 - 6:07am||Bang bang ladies and gentlemen!||
In a world with dishonesty, corruption, negligence and hypocrisy rampant, let’s bang Beilein and the Boys in Blue all the way to the title. That would be one of the most fulfilling sports stories in recent memory.
|03/29/2018 - 10:20pm||I agree with this||
I'm not ready to have children, yet if I did, I would try to guide them towards some hard skills that can allow you to communicate effectively with people in their language, not your own. Simple example yet think of a product manager at Google. You'll be useless without a CS background (and thus not hirable) despite possessing any relevant business theory.
Business in itself is not complicated. Experience is the key to anything and everything is business at its core. Roles in non-profit, volunteering, you name it - all will benefit with some understanding of marketing, budgets, negotiation, etc.
Business degrees, undergrad or grad, provide polish and serve mostly as a signal to employers that you are in a certain percentile of the population based on a school's ranking and admissions criteria. That's why, in growing cases, it's less about the degree at the end but being admitted in the beginning, and possibly dropping out of school to get a jump on building professional experience.
It's really not what you learned in school that will serve you best, though school is a ton of fun and will teach you interesting things. It's more how you sorted yourself based on that insitution's acceptance of you into their program.
TL;DR >> be different somehow, don't rely solely on a generic business credential.
|03/29/2018 - 9:56pm||+1||
|03/27/2018 - 4:09am||That was ridiculous||
Should have been a retroactive T for unsportsmanlike conduct. So bush league.
|03/25/2018 - 10:46am||Better than Pea Shatterson||
Gotta imagine he got picked on in high school
|03/25/2018 - 4:23am||It’s pretty awesome||
No one player can be game-planned for - anyone of them can and will beat you at any given time. MAAR scuffling? Matthews is there. Wagner can’t get open? Z drives to create space. Anything is possible with the team. Whereas Houston and T&M could be neutralized by taking away a high usage guard, there is no such option against Michigan. They are too skilled to have everyone have a down game at the same time. It’s pretty damn fun to watch.
|03/25/2018 - 3:28am||A revelation is right||
I wonder if he could have a future in the NBA... Pass first PGs (like Rubio) have succeeded before. Z doesn't turn the ball over, is a relentless defender and can get to the rim pretty shiftily. I gotta imagine some teams could use that.
|03/25/2018 - 2:44am||Maybe they just haven’t happened yet||
Sounds like you have a lot of atoning to do, young man (or woman).
|03/25/2018 - 2:40am||THAT’S how Simpson is so relentless on D||
X and Z in ur base and ur shirt
|03/25/2018 - 2:36am||Cumong man||
I think Beilein deserves the benefit of your doubt, no?
|03/25/2018 - 1:54am||Champions of our hearts||
That’s where it ends though
|03/25/2018 - 12:00am||Minor miracles are possible||
Happened to Loyola. Happened to Michigan. The tourney's all about weird shit coming down the stretch in a single elimination tournament.
Coach Hamilton will be formidable next year, and that shot blocker (Obiagu) is on a different level. Yet if I were those players after the game, I'd be kind of pissed. I'd rather go down swinging.
|03/24/2018 - 11:42pm||Matthews was great||
But I would have given Z the MOP. He was a difference-maker. His ball-handling was incredible. Defense was outstanding. Big shots and big layups at big moments. Incredible performance over four games.
|03/24/2018 - 11:40pm||It was kind of a surreal ending||
They were about zero, sure, but if you're gonna lose, why not leave every option on the floor and fight to the last second?
I'll happily take it - this team can win any way, anywhere.
|03/24/2018 - 11:21pm||Let's get two more||
Not too much to ask!

|03/24/2018 - 11:09pm||BANGS!||
|03/24/2018 - 6:25am||Carry on, Sir Charles||
|03/23/2018 - 2:48pm||Double digit win||
I think FSU, like A&M, is not disciplined enough to manage their own athleticism. What makes Michigan unique is they have nearly top notch, if not quite elite, athleticism while simultaneously being incredibly disciplined and smart on court. That confused the hell out of A&M and I expect the same on Saturday.
|03/23/2018 - 2:47am||Totally||
Wish I could have seen the A&M bench in the 2nd half but seeing the last 3 was well worth the trade.
|03/22/2018 - 9:34pm||Starks was right||
|03/21/2018 - 2:12pm||Not necessarily||
Lot of arbitrage opportunities internationally, as it were. Money goes further.
|03/20/2018 - 5:15pm||Wasn’t a skills thing for me||
Just seemed like he lacked fire to be dominant.
|03/20/2018 - 5:13pm||Trey Burke is carving out a nice role on the Knicks||
Yes, it’s the Knicks, but you could make a strong case he doesn’t have that chance if not for the developmental league.
|03/20/2018 - 1:22am||Tom Tolbert used to do some great Walton impressions||
My favorite (in Walton's voice) was when he said, "Sean Bradley, looking like Hakeem Olajuwon." I still laugh; so funny.
|03/19/2018 - 5:20pm||No mighty wall of bricks please||
Let's leave that in Wichita k thanks bye
|03/18/2018 - 10:22pm||And Custer thought Little Big Horn would be a walk in the park||
Carry on, Tom.

House money at this point. What a weekend!

Drink Sparty tears all day and night
|03/18/2018 - 5:20pm||He'll give excuses if he||
He'll give excuses if he wants to talk about basketball. Maybe he can talk about his retirement instead.
|03/18/2018 - 5:11pm||Is 'manbun' a savage burn?||
Still, I wonder if he has a shot in the NBA. Better than I thought he was.
|03/18/2018 - 2:43am||He changed it|
