Depends on who you're talking to when you say it would be awful.

To many Michigan fans who are sick and tired of losing to OSU every year, yeah it'd suck and be a somewhat hollow season. But it would also mean winning 10 games with easily one of the toughest schedules in the country. If not THE toughest. Would mean beating at least two ranked teams on the road in ND and MSU, and beating what should be a very good, if not elite PSU team.

That's an NY6 bowl, playoff chatter through the end of the regular season and definitely some recruiting momentum is gained back. Yes, I'd rather beat OSU too. But it wouldn't be a total disaster of a season.

The pimple on my right butt cheek (no, the other one) predicts a 7-5 season butt then what does he know about our new QB?

They have the talent to be 12-0. Realistically they shouldn't lose a game. But that doesn't factor in a grueling schedule  and injuries and whatnot.

Shouldn't lose a game?  Are you serious?  OSU has more talent than we do.  ND and PSU arguably have as much or more talent than we do.  And MSU is right there too.  Wisky has close to our talent too and are really rolling coming off a big Bowl win.

Shouldn't lose a game?  What are people smoking?  We will be better than last year, that much I am sure of, but the schedule is brutal, we could be much better and still go 8-4.

10-2 isn't really awful though...

while i understand that losing to OSU again is awful, objectively 10-2 is a very good year with this schedule.

i'd gladly trade down to 9-3 if that meant beating both MSU and OSU though

i don't now how Branden f'd up, but having both games versus MSU/OSU on the road in the same year is pretty ridiculous...need to get that fixed sooner rather than later.

LOL, some folks in our fanbase...

Franklin: "Back to back 10 win seasons, how is it he is doing better than Harbaugh"

Harbaugh: "Ugh, if we only get our 3rd 10 win season in 4 years its this year is a total failure"

Awful season?  Beating ND, PSU, and MSU would be outstanding.  10-2 would be fantastic too.  I have us 9-3/8-4, so 10-2 would be a pleasant surprise for me.

I'd like to know what constitutes a good season then if losing to the numbers 4 and 5 teams in the country and beating everyone else would be considered a disappointment.

I say that, with decent quarterbacking, we beat OSU. We had the gameplan to beat them the past two years and despite the shitty refs, we'd have spanked them with solid play at QB. We had damn near everything we needed to build the house, but somebody forgot the saw.

Regardless, this schedule is too tough to predict an undefeated season. Wisconsin is going to be damn tough, and Sparty, despite having what I believe to be an inferior team, is going to be a dogfight after having to face the Badgers. PSU is going to be tough too. I just don't see any reason Harbaugh isn't going to be very well prepared for OSU, though. Give us some solid quarterbacking and I think we take that one. Urban looked like he was going to have a nervous breakdown on the sidelines these past two years.

If we must lose one, let it be vs Wisconsin at home, sin Black. Win the east and rematch vs Wisconsin after hopefully our tackles have 6 more weeks of technique.

If we have to lose a second, let it be northwestern. They will be under the radar good this year (and possibly ranked at the time), and it's away.

If I had to predict the season right now, I think I'd do the same. It'd be an objectively good season, even with a loss to OSU. Though I think I'd take 9-3 with a win against OSU.

10-2 with this schedule would be outstanding. At worst, we'd have a shot to win the Fiesta or Peach Bowl or something like that. And at best, if the B1G champion gets called into the playoff, we could be on our way to the Rose Bowl.

A 10 win season does not cut it for me. ND to me is a slightly better 2017 Florida. Any road game to start the year against your rival is a tough challenge, but Don Brown has studied this ND offense when he was in the ACC, and now in the Big 10. He has all the tape, experience, and players he needs to go get this one. 27-17 Michigan with the defense getting at least 1 TD. Any loss to PSU, or WI at home would be a major disappointment to me. This team is good enough to beat both of those teams. It is time for us to field a real home field advantage, similar to what PSU did to us last year.  If our defense plays to the level they are capable, we should win both of those games with an average to good offensive showing. A loss to MSU would absolutely crush me, and I hate to say it...but cause me to lose a lot of faith in our coaching staffs ability to ever get over the hump and win the rivalry games consistently. I do not think that happens this year though. I am hoping with a QB who is more of a leader, and a team that is still pissed off about last year we go into EL and put MSU back in their place.

I truly believe we go into Columbus with us and OSU undefeated...its hard for me to predict that as a win with what we witnessed the refs and BIG 10 do in the last game there. You know OSU fans will treat this like an "us against the world" type game, still being pissed about urban being treated so poorly (in their eyes). I think we lose a dog fight, 11-1 regular season, finish second in the Big 10 East but end up making the playoff due to our tough schedule along with undefeated OSU, Bama, and Clemson. What happens there is anyone's guess.

Obviously I am looking at this in my maize and blue tinted glasses, but we are due for a season where we catch some breaks, and finally perform our best in the biggest games...From what I've seen and heard from Shea, I think we have that leader who can push us over the top...we are in for a great year.

I understand Wisconsin is ranked top 5 in the preseason but I have yet to hear a convincing argument that they are (will be) good enough to beat Michigan at Michigan.  No doubt they will be good this year.  But so will we.  We have revenge factor.  And we're home.  If the line were set today I think Michigan would be favored by a few points.

Beat OSU or the season is yet another failure. Harbaugh hasn’t had a successful season yet.

I'm thinking 10-2 at least. UM arguably has more talent than 11 of their 12 opponents. I think 9-3 is underachieving. Schedule is not an excuse.

12-0 is possible (IF Warriner turns out to be an OLine whisperer and Patterson is 'as-advertised')

11-1 - same deal with one hiccup game.

10-2 totally doeable.

9-3 possible if the oline makes little progress.

8-4 only acceptable if we beat OSU and MSU with some unexplainable bad losses against teams we were suppose to beat (Northweatern or Indiana-ish).

10-2 isn't an awful season, but losing to OSU would be an awful end to the season. Losing to ND hurts. Losing to MSU is irritating. But, losing to OSU damages my soul!

I definitely can accept another 10 win season, but make the losses Wisconsin and Penn State. LOL For the record, a convincing argument can be made that the schedule sets up well for this Michigan team to go undefeated. I don't think Wisconsin will be as good as the experts think. Michigan is more talented than MSU. And, we have a bye before the Penn State game. As far as ND and OSU, Michigan's defense should shutdown ND. OSU is a tough matchup, but we've had them beat in the last 2 years with one physically hurt qb (Speight) and one qb with a hurt psyche (O'Korn). We have played OSU pretty evenly, the difference has been our quarterbacks mistakes. If Shea plays better than the last 2 guys in THE GAME, Michigan should leave Columbus with a win.

So, I'm pretty much calling 12-0 this year.

The msu beat writer (i assume) for the DetNews predicted a 10-2 season for the spartans, with losses to penn state and Nebraska which, uh, is an interesting take.
