12/08/2018 - 9:50pm Part of it is just the fact…

Part of it is just the fact that down in Oklahoma and Texas, every HS is using spread/air raid type offenses. QBs down there have grown up to play in those types of systems.

I recommend glorious North Korea. North Korea is Best Korea.

That's funny. Oklahoma destroyed Ohio State in Columbus last time they played them. When was the last time we won in Columbus?

12/06/2018 - 3:25pm To clarify, I wasn't a GA…

To clarify, I wasn't a GA for the football team, I was a GA in the athletic department and did more business stuff, but knew other GAs that worked with the football team.

Nowhere close to the juiciest story I have (and probably not that interesting), but my personal favorite story is that Joe Castiglione (the athletic director at OU) co-taught a leadership class in the graduate program most of the athletic GA's were enrolled in. For the last day of class, he said that he was bringing pizza, but asked everyone to bring $5 to help pay for it. Keep in mind, these are all poor graduate students and this was a couple days after he made a $40,000 bonus for the football team making a NY6 game.

The Big 12 has been a pretty good conference past two years.

12/05/2018 - 11:38am Besides money, why in the…

Besides money, why in the world would Riley come here? Its not like Oklahoma is a bad gig and they have enough resources to make salary comparable, he's from nearby Texas, his family lives nearby, he's got a great thing going right now where he's already competing for championships, outside a brief stint at ECU, has never left the region. If he wanted to try the NFL, I could maybe see him leaving, but there is no reason for him to leave to take a different college job.

12/04/2018 - 7:09pm I can also provide some…

I can also provide some insider information on this as I was a GA in Oklahoma's athletic department and knew people close to the team. When Riley was at Oklahoma as an OC, he had complete control over the offense as well as full play calling duties. He would also give frequent leadership esq pep, ra ra type talks to the team on a frequent basis, the type of talks you would expect the coach to make. Funny story, Bob Stoops would frequently break up the offensive and defensive units for film study and had the coordinators run them. According to a connection, Riley would frequently give his guys prep talks and motivational speeches while you could here faint screaming and obscenities coming from Mike Stoops in the other room. I heard from several players that they all thought he would be an awesome coach. He had complete playcalling duties as well at ECU. So for several years, Riley WAS the offensive mind at several schools.

Another thing. Recruiting took a noticeable jump at OU once Riley got his feet wet. I truly believe Bob Stoops decision to step down had to do evenly with the fact that he was ready to live life and he knew there was great coach there already on staff.

Day by all accounts seems like a very good young coach. But with Wilson there, I don't know how much of the playcalling was him. Even if it was all him, he definitely doesn't have as much playcalling experience as Riley.

This is good news, but side question. When in the hell did the SEC get so good at basketball?

11/29/2018 - 3:09pm I know I'm sounding like one…

I know I'm sounding like one of those bitter fans that say I didn't want him anyway, but I was always skeptical of how Bailey fit for Michigan. I think Michigan's offense works best with a dual threat/mobile guy, and Bailey isn't that type of player. Patterson, McCaffrey, and even Milton have some mobility, and I hope we recruit more QBs with that element to their game.

I'm an Oklahoma grad and fan. OU doesn't deserve to be in a playoff with that defense.

Simply put, if Michigan wins out, they are in.

This is the only scenario in my mind that he comes here. He decides that he wants to take a year to refresh himself and only joins as a part-time analyst to provide some advice to Jim.

It would be tight timing. Karlaftis is supposed to early enroll, and he may elect to just stay at Purdue and remain close to home.

11/10/2018 - 11:44pm While mostly true, its not…

While mostly true, its not entirely true. Some states like Oklahoma produce more quality over quantity players. You can't build a team of just Oklahoma recruits, but you can get some decent players from the state (for example Dax Hill). Missouri has a similar problem to that. Louisiana is in theory close enough to Big 12 teams to recruit from, but the SEC teams dominate there.

11/10/2018 - 11:39pm There are a couple of…

There are a couple of reasons why the Big 12 doesn't play defense well against each other.

1.) HS teams in Texas are built around developing air raid offenses. At young ages, elite athletes are usually moved to skill positions like WR rather than developed at DB.

2.) Most Big 12 teams run wide open, high octane, fast paced offenses. The main flaw with running that kind of offense is that its hard to win time of possession battles, and it keeps your defense on the field longer which means they get worn out quickly in the season and their flaws get exposed early. Because most Big 12 teams have offenses that can exploit defensive flaws, they just destroy each other's defenses.

3.) In the case of some teams like Oklahoma, they have been slow to adapt to this style of offense and haven't hired the coaches yet that know how to coach against Big 12 offenses.

I actually don't think that would be a terrible hire for them

11/08/2018 - 6:32pm I don't know if Zach will be…

I don't know if Zach will be a 30 carry a game back his freshman year, nor am I willing to rule out a Turner jump, but I'm really confident Charbonnet is going to be in the main rotation along with Evans his freshman year. His tape is my favorite from a Michigan running back commit since Fitzgerald Toussaint

11/08/2018 - 4:59pm Didn't he come to Michigan…

Didn't he come to Michigan in part because he wanted to be closer to his son? Unless a MAC program comes crawling, I think the biggest threat is if the Lions fire their OL coach.

11/08/2018 - 4:57pm That was my reaction as well…

That was my reaction as well. The coach they just fired was just a position coach when KU hired him. Considering they hired a football guy to be their AD, I think they are looking to make a splash.

What's impressed me is that weed is legal in Washington, and yet I don't smell it much, and it doesn't seem to be a problem.

11/07/2018 - 3:30am Weed isn't for me, and I…

Weed isn't for me, and I have no desire to ever smoke it.

That being said, I live in Washington, I haven't seen any problems with it. If people want it, than thats democracy.

For the record, I think this is a political thread and should be deleted.

My biggest fear is that the Lions decide to go after him.

11/04/2018 - 5:53pm My guess is because they don…

My guess is because they don't need to. Its clear Harbaugh wants his offense to be a ball control offense, which would allow Michigan to dominate time of possession, keep their defense fresh, and wear out opposing defenses in the fourth quarter. By airing it out, you risk turnovers, failed drives, and if you become too addicted to big plays, you risk running into the problems that Big 12 defenses have in that it puts your defense on the field longer which could wear them out and expose them.

My only complaint is that I wish they would be a bit more creative on third downs, but what Michigan is doing now is working, so keep doing what they are doing.

11/03/2018 - 12:24am A hill that I'm willing to…

A hill that I'm willing to die in is that Michigan will never have a DLine as deep as that 2016 team. We may have better DLines, but never one as deep as that one.

11/02/2018 - 11:09am I would rather have the kids…

I would rather have the kids on the team now show flashes and develop. We are going to get a good pick regardless.

11/01/2018 - 2:14pm There is more to that…

There is more to that however. Sure googling could give you a list of coaches to start with, but you still have access if the coach will be a good fit for your staff and personnel, and if coaching philosophies align. Harbaugh would also have to determine how much of the playcalling came through Brown, and if what Brown did at BC would work in the Big10, as well as if his age would be a problem. In addition, Harbaugh would also have to convince Brown to leave BC.

Considering Harbaugh's coaching hires usually work out, I highly doubt he gets lucky or just relies on google.

Snickers is like a very solid 4 star recruit. I will always be happy to have one. But Reese's Peanut Butter Cups is like a unanimous no.1 overall 5 star.

Agreed. I don't really understand when a prospective recruit has NFL aspirations but doesn't want to play for a cold weather school. Like what happens if Buffalo or Green Bay drafts you? Got to get used to it eventually.

Plus you never know how kids will respond to the weather. People forget that Denard Robinson's official visit was in December while it was snowing really hard. Turned out it was his first time seeing the snow and he said afterwords that he loved it, despite being from Florida.

10/22/2018 - 10:24pm I'm very late to the party,…

I'm very late to the party, but I have some interesting perspective on this question. I'm an Oklahoma grad, and in 2015, we lost to Texas, but made the College Football Playoff. Based on that experience, I think I would take the CFP 100% of the time, even we get blasted like Oklahoma did against Clemson that year. Having a shot at a championship is an amazing feeling. Plus, people outside if Texas don't really remember our loss to Texas that year, but they remember that we made the playoffs. Plus it is very very easy to sell yourself to recruits when you can point to a playoff apperance. OU's recruiting took a noticable leap after that playoff year.

OU only lost to Texas because the defense had another meltdown, which led to the firing of Mike Stoops.
