Is this in Michigan? I'm in DMV, and I thought the same thing when they canceled school twice last week, and were late start every other day. I don't blame the kids, it honestly seems like school administrators look outside and think "Oh jeez its wet and cold out there, I dont want to go out" [sips coffee in robe] "well its just not safe for the kids, need to cancel".

How is this not teaching kids that if the weather is bad you get to take day off? Every other job , unless conditions extreme, you need to go to work.

01/29/2019 - 5:55pm I was there about the same…

I was there about the same time and remember that urban legend. Pretty sure the Daily did an article at some point where they looked into if there was any truth to it and found no evidence that had ever happened. The reality was the University thought that because most their students walked to class anyways there was no need to cancel.

01/15/2019 - 9:17am I thought Harbaugh was too…

I thought Harbaugh was too stubborn to change? I thought he only liked to hire washed out NFL re-treads? I thought he was sitting in his office twiddling his thumbs and stoked about how we're just a few years away from building enough of a callus that our wear them out offense is going to explode?

Penn State fan comment on Reddit when he got poached by Bama

"This is a huge huge loss for us. Bama you’re getting one of the best recruiters and WR coaches in the country."

This is incontrovertible evidence he is amazing.

Quick scan of Bama boards for comments on this guy, he seemed to have been overall well regarded, especially for recruiting.

01/08/2019 - 7:08am We also just have the shit…

We also just have the shit luck of being one of 2 teams that happens to be the rival of one of those 3 schools and thus expected to beat them. No one is expected to beat Clemson in ACC. LSU is the only close comparison with Alabama, and they are in the exact same position as us. The last time they even had a win over Saban, they had a rematch where they didn’t even cross the 50 yard line.

01/03/2019 - 11:42am This X100.

I also noticed…

This X100.

I also noticed something watching some bowl games with high powered offense and crappy D teams - it seemed to me the better way to beat them was to actually out shoot them to start. If you can get their offense to play from behind and adjust your D to keep everything in front of you, their offense slows down just enough without big plays. Normal intuition says play slow to keep your D off the field - but this doesn't work because they will sell out for a big 3 and out and then your D is right back out there. Best thing is to be aggressive against weak D and keep scoring. One downside to the high tempo offenses is if you can get a quick stop, its a REALLY quick turn around for their D. Thats when you really wear them out. But if you try to slow down the game and next thing you know you only have a 3 point lead, you're screwed. You gotta jump out and get 2 score lead against their crappy D then control the game and hold serve from their.

12/21/2018 - 8:42pm I swear I remember last year…

I swear I remember last year in the opening drive of the second half against Florida (where we scored to retake lead) we went into tempo mode for part of that drive. I remember getting excited thinking we would see more of that  - not all the time, but a more strategic deployment of tempo. You would think with an experienced Shea we could have some scripted sequences to deploy when the offense needs a little momentum.

12/12/2018 - 9:36am The big question going into…

The big question going into next year for me: can Harbaugh put together a team where the offense carries the defense. Assuming Patterson comes back, we basically return everyone on offense. I don't think the defense will be bad, but I just don't see it being elite. The offense was 24th in S&P this year. It has to get better, we won't be able to continue with 1 score leads late into game and expect D to just continue getting stops.

12/06/2018 - 9:57am It's not like it was a…

It's not like it was a national story or anything. One guy who is not known for breaking news said it on air during a TV show. If Harbaugh responds it will literally gives more attention to it than it had when just Chris Carter was talking on TV.

11/26/2018 - 12:45pm Exactly, don't people…

Exactly, don't people realize we were literally a 5 win team when Harbaugh took over? We had a chance to prove we were tier 1 Saturday, and unfortunately we failed. LSU had the same chance this year, and they got shut out at home by Bama. Washington made playoffs once and got blown out. Oklahoma will not be there unless they can field something above a MAC level defense. Georgia might be only team potentially knocking on the door.

Keep recruiting well, and we will be knocking on door each year, and hopefully break through. But for 7 years under RR and Hoke there was literally zero chance of competing for B10 title consistently.

Plenty blue-blood(ish) programs like USC, Texas, Miami, Va Tech, are further from being there than we are.

11/05/2018 - 12:39pm Serious question - are…

Serious question - are people here actually saying RPO when they mean read option? The only thing we've ran that I recall looking like an RPO is the touchdown to Gentry this weekend.

10/29/2018 - 2:56pm That might have more to do…

That might have more to do with Iowa's 94th ranked offense per S&P.

10/25/2018 - 9:25am Moved to DC about 5 years…

Moved to DC about 5 years ago. Woke up one morning to maybe a half inch dusting, didn't think anything of it and just went on my way to work. It wasn't until i was too far from home that i got caught in the worst traffic jam of my life. Cars were sliding everywhere, I got out twice to help push cars up small inclines. And it wasn't just my commute, I checked my phone and realized the entire DMV was an absolute clusterfuck. I always tell people I'm way more terrified of an inch of snow in DC than a foot of snow back in Michigan.

10/17/2018 - 2:35pm Yea its pretty crazy, half…

Yea its pretty crazy, half way through that season we weren't even on the bubble let as well in the tournament. Walton completely carried that team the second half and through B10 tournament, along with a surging Wagner and Wilson.

10/17/2018 - 10:41am Yea, I think the o-line…

Yea, I think the o-line praise is going a bit far. I do think they are a significant upgrade from last year - especially pass pro - but Wisconsin has a seriously mediocre defense. I think Northwestern's is better, and MSU will be better than NW, and it took us time to get going against them.

10/09/2018 - 4:35pm I heard about a similar…

I heard about a similar program being developed to detect drivers impaired by marijuana.  You have to test yourself 5-10 minutes a week sober to create a baseline, then test yourself before getting in a car to drive high. Not really feasible for law enforcement, but if you can prevent a few people responsible enough to test themselves from getting on the road when they shouldn't it can still be a large benefit.

Page 56/57 of last years annual report at least shows a break down of the types of investments.

http://2017.annualreport.umich.edu/wp-content/uploads/sites/56/2018/01/02-2017-UM-Financial-Report-financial-statements-complete-statements.pdf

But you're not gonna find a list of the actual investments. Most of them are alternative investment funds anyways which generally have names like "Madison Fund 4", and without a fund report you have no idea what that might be invested in.

09/16/2018 - 2:50pm Ugh, can we give this thing…

Ugh, can we give this thing a rest? It was during a post game interview he said something like “we came out strong, I thought we out hit them in the first half”. It was a generic coach speak comment and for some reason people have held on to it for 2 years.

09/11/2018 - 3:04pm I don't think anyone has a…

I don't think anyone has a problem with "stealing" cable and sticking it to companies like Comcast. It's that so many people gloat about how great cutting the cord has been and how much money they saved, but fail to mention they never would have survived without access to someones cable login.

09/11/2018 - 9:29am Sounds like you just want to…

Sounds like you just want to see us pass more so you can get some extra comfort knowing we can pass against a terrible defense, and you're trying to justify it by saying we need to rep passing more in a live game. There is zero actual football rationale for what you're proposing.

09/03/2018 - 7:59pm I did re-watch it, and I…

I did re-watch it, and I actually felt like there were several instances the offense was rolling only to have a play blown up because the LT could barely get a hand on someone. It was a drive killer when you have those plays.

09/03/2018 - 1:30pm Exactly. Last year, the…

Exactly. Last year, the passing game was so bad (largely b/c of QB) that teams stacked the box with 9 guys and we still had to run straight into it. Saturday, we had a passing game...problem was ND could drop everyone back just rush 4 and still get pressure.

09/02/2018 - 8:07pm I think we may actually be…

I think we may actually be les miles LSU. Every off season there was talk about improving their offense, but it never improved

08/30/2018 - 10:41am What people forget is that…

What people forget is that Michigan is pretty unique in that they have set aside enough space in student section for every student who wants to get season tickets. I know there are many big program schools with limited student section, where you don't expect tickets until your Jr. or Sr. year. The result at those schools is that those who get tickets are much more likely to attend, and also, the secondary market is much more active for those cupcake games, because that may be many student's only chance to get into student section at reasonable price.

LOL, some folks in our fanbase...

Franklin: "Back to back 10 win seasons, how is it he is doing better than Harbaugh"

Harbaugh: "Ugh, if we only get our 3rd 10 win season in 4 years its this year is a total failure"

No offense...but if you're above the age of 9 and you make a sign about eating boogers and crapping then I'm not sure what to say.

07/30/2018 - 5:47pm People somehow forget OT…

People somehow forget OT season last year that, if I recall, included counter top recommendations, medical marijuana, advice on renting out your house, and a whole bunch of other random things with very little content in between.

You’re worried we may be over taken in a  ranking that hasn’t been updated in 10 years?

07/18/2018 - 9:35am Way to much focus on fixing…

Way to much focus on fixing the point. While I think its an important self moderating feature to discern content from noise, the biggest issue is the ACRES of white space. Why is there so much blank space dedicated to "Joined" and "MGoPoints"? This makes reading hard because scrolling forever, but also has made following comments very difficult. I honestly can not tell most of the time who is replying to who because they are so far apart. Fix that and the unnecessarily large and awkward header now and it will go a long way to bringing people back.

07/13/2018 - 10:34am IDK - Harbaugh is 2-1…

IDK - Harbaugh is 2-1 against Franklin, crushed Franklin's team that beat OSU and won B10 (and beat the B10 west champ in regular season). Basically the difference between the two is PSU upset OSU at home on a blocked kick, Harbaugh lost on the road by 1 inch 4th down play. Franklin took a 7 win team and wins 7 games first 2 years. Harbaugh has 5 win team and has back to back 10 win seasons.

06/28/2018 - 9:29am Agreed. I am no longer a…

Agreed. I am no longer a betting man, but if I was I would be hammering France over Argentina. Other than Messi's goal, Argentina looked pathetic against Nigeria. It was pass to Messi and stand around and watch. They got bailed when Nigeria forgot to pick up a defender coming forward who then made a shot he makes 1 in 50 tries. France on the other hand took care of business in first 2 games and played to a boring tie in a meaningless game vs Denmark.

Tuesday posbang! Wait, is there even voting?

05/07/2018 - 2:26pm I don't think anyone really

I don't think anyone really disagrees with you. Its just that recruiting is discussed in many places on here - making a thread that doesn't offer any new info and just says "Hot take - in case you didn't know recruiting is not going as well as hoped" is useless muck racking. Having a negative take that gets attention is just inflamatory click bait. In fairness, a lot of people here fall for it. But when people defend the 21st ranked recruiting class, they aren't saying we should be ecstatic. Its just trying to see the upside in things rather than focusing on the negatives.

05/04/2018 - 4:09pm They do have an independent

They do have an independent external audit firm performing their audit. Internal audit is not allowed to perform an audit of a company's financial.  Company's have both an an independent auditor and internal audit group, they do different things.

05/04/2018 - 4:04pm I have worked as an auditor.

I have worked as an auditor. I have worked for the very firm now hired to perform an independent audit of the endowment office.  What happened at UM is relatively minor operational issue, and the events that occured actually provide more comfort to me that they would appropriately address a more serious issue.

Really the events are - 2014 inernal audit makes findings -> CIO disagrees ->Tensions increase between internal audit and endowment office ->UM president admits some errors and hires external auditors to review. In fairness, they were a bit slow to address, but not because they feared reprecussions - frankly, i think its because they just didn't really understand/had more interesting things to address. Seriously, try reading the audit report and stay awake all the way through. I work in finance, things like audit findings are nearly impossible to get the attention of Boards unless they are really serious (i.e. embezzelement, major accounting error, etc). Ultimately, Schlissel has admited some mistakes and is working to address and learn.

MSU on the other hand has girls making accusations back in 1997. In the subsequent years several people try to bury accusations from getting out. Nassar is investigated by police but still allowed to practice. MSU pres is told of FBI investigation and says "play it by the book". Eventually Nassar is fired and this hits media. MSU Board defends president because she raised a lot of money. MSU continues to do everything it can to mitigate legal exposure while not admitting wrongdoing.

04/18/2018 - 2:05pm Dave Brandon was responsible

Dave Brandon was responsible for the terrible communication mishandling of that, and there were calls for his firing long before losing to Rutgers. Our president however did come out and admit wrongdoing

Despite having one of the finest levels of team medical expertise in the country, our system failed on Saturday. We did not get this right, and for this I apologize to Shane, his family, his teammates, and the entire Michigan family.

Then, he laid out plan to fix situation going forward

I have instructed the athletic department to provide me, the Board of Regents, and other campus leaders with a thorough review of our in-game player safety procedures, particularly those involving head injuries, and will involve experts from the University of Michigan Health System in assessing its medical aspects

Apologize, admit failures, develop action plan going forward. Its not a complicated strategy when you screw up. MSU on the other hand has chosen to focus on deferring blame and protecting University image

04/12/2018 - 10:00pm Every rep these kids do in

Every rep these kids do in practice is put on film to be analyzed by coaches paid millions of dollars to get you to play better. Every play they make, besides being in front of 100k people, is dissected, discussed, and posted about in a million other places. There are articles about you every day in newspapers. You can turn on ESPN and see pundits discussing you and your team at any given time. These kids lives are constantly under a microscope, some extra cameras didn’t change that. This is a lazy take that fulfills a preconceived narrative but has no evidence.

04/12/2018 - 8:41pm My gosh there are a lot of

My gosh there are a lot of people speculating about this kid based on a 1.5 second clip of his reaction (or lack there of) to Poole's game winning 3. Is it not possible that he was waiting to make sure the shot was off in time before he went crazy? His back was to the shooter, so he had no idea when it was released.

04/11/2018 - 12:26pm There is no evidence, just

There is no evidence, just that it fits a preconceived narrative on how the season went.

04/10/2018 - 10:06pm I feel like he can be another

I feel like he can be another max beifieldt (sp?). About 8 minutes of solid D and rebounding a game, maybe more if there’s some foul trouble.

04/08/2018 - 10:38pm Bolting for the first

Bolting for the first paycheck? Or maybe getting a shot to pursue a lifelong dream that one in about 50000 kids playing hockey ever get a shock at?

04/03/2018 - 12:30am This is a terrible take OP.

This is a terrible take OP. I’m too tired to explain but you have no idea why you’re talking about.

04/02/2018 - 1:25pm The narrative has been "they

The narrative has been "they played poorly against Texas Tech and still won". Perhaps Texas Tech just had a good D and played as such?

04/01/2018 - 12:44pm Please, if it was MSU instead

Please, if it was MSU instead no one on this board would be giving credit. Technicalities aside of what is or is not considered part of tourny , it is different because typically an 11 seed does not get the chance to play another 11 seed and rack up a tourny win. With or without it Beileins track record stands amongst the elites, but including that is a bit of a cheapie.

03/30/2018 - 2:09pm Seriously OP, did you read

Seriously OP, did you read it? It did not contrast Loyala and Michigan at all. Literally, the University of Michigan was not mentioned once. It was a short piece about how the excitement of the tourny run was carrying over into other academic activities in a positive way. What made you feel the need to take away from a harmless fluff op-ed article and bash Loyola in your post?

03/27/2018 - 7:29pm JBB has been on campus for 4

JBB has been on campus for 4 years. Can he improve? Sure. But last year he was an average B10 tackle on his best days, to think he could anchor a championship caliber line at LT one year later would be a pretty large improvement.

03/25/2018 - 12:11am Stay up and keep drinking!

Stay up and keep drinking!

03/09/2018 - 4:54pm When and why did we get rid

When and why did we get rid of Gwen Bush? I must have missed. I seem to recall (prior to this last class) that it seemed every other recruit mentioned how much they loved her. Did we really not notice how important she was?
