The weird thing about that--if you match up their first 8-10 years at each school, that would be a legitimate argument.  Now, I don't think it's close in terms of game planning, game management, and talent development--Beilein is probably one of the Top 3 coaches in the NCAA.  But when recruiting is factored in and overall team achievement is compared, Thad Matta had a great 8-year run at OSU.  I have no idea how the bottom fell out for his program so quickly after the Aaron Craft class graduated.

Matta struck me as a really good recruiter and OK (not terrible, but just OK) bench coach.  Recruiting takes a lot of energy, and his health started deteriorating.  His later teams still had some quality players (like Bates-Diop) but weren't stacked like his earlier ones.

Don't care. If it were OSU playing 'Nova, I'd want the Wildcats to win by 50.

I don't really care about the conference either. They all hate Michigan for whatever reason. I've got a buddy who's a big Northwestern fan and it's killing him that we made it this far LOL

I have a confession to make: I’ve rooted for OSU against non-conference opponents in big games any number of times. I know. Awful. But I really like it when B1G teams do well outside the conference. To some degree, I think it raises the perception of the conference to have good teams. I’ll go crawl into a hole now.

Strong lead with the "I'd root for Bin Laden" take. Also, since he's dead, that opens up a whole realm of questions of what game Michigan and the ghost of a terrorist are playing. Anyway, whatever. Ask a rival fanbase a dumb question, get back some dumb answers in between air gulps.

"We all ordered Villanova shirts on Amazon last night. Going to play their fight song all night long." A fool and his money are easy to part, I guess. I mean, you are going to an OSU party and wearing a team's colors that you do not care about except that they are playing a rival school. You will likely never wear that shirt again, and in a year wonder why the hell you bought it. For fuck's sake, give that money to a charity or something and just root against Michigan with your own clothes, you goobers.

I generally root for the Big 10 in situations like this.  I think I rooted for OSU against Florida a decade a go.  I remember feeling dirty but generally want the conference to look good.  Also, I've just never liked Villanova.  OSU football is much tougher to root for than the basketball team in my opinion.

I am fascinated by this. Not criticizing at all as I give no shits and think you can root for whoever (whom???) you want. I’m a UM fan that didn’t go to UM so there’s that. I’ve never understood conference pride. I give no fucks about other teams in a conference. I went to KSU and while I really didn’t care too much, I was thrilled KU lost last night. There is no way I’m rooting for a rival regardless of conference.

I just get so sick of ESPN talking about the SEC all the time in football and the ACC in basketball.  I was genuinely proud when the Big 10 had perfect record in the bowl games before the Michigan game.  For some reason I like to see the conference do well.  I was giddy when MSU lost to Syracuse.  In state bragging rights are nice.  I don't really see OSU as a rival in basketball for some reason so I don't actively root for them to fail as much.  I just don't hate them the way I do in football.

Absolutely. I think being told every year that their team is going to win the National Championship and shitting the bed has really done a lot of damage over the past 18 years. I mean, when a man named "Mr March" absolutely cannot win in March since literally the Y2K scare.. the world must not make any sense to them at this point.

"The year we lost to Kentucky in the second round, that was our best team ever, I think." Bahahaha. Your best team ever couldn't make it out of the first week? How embarrassing. At least Sparty fans this year can relate to their best team ever not making it to the Sweet 16.

Quote from OSU fan:
“It would be TORCHER watching them cut down the nets.”

1. If that was written on a blog or website, shame on the osu fan for showing this much grammatical ignorance.

2. If that was a mistake by the Michigan Insider crew quoting the fan...well....I don’t know what to say

Torcher was autocorrected on my phone to Torched; leading me to believe that this person owns no cell phone. Now I'm second guessing where this person is from. Couch burner or cooler pooper?

Lions don’t concern themselves with the opinions of sheep.

If they were the better team, they’d be the ones playing for it all. They would’ve found a way to beat a lowly Penn State team at least once in three tries.

I cannot imagine caring about an opponent so much that you and your friends buy shirts of a random school. I’m sure there are Michigan fans that would do the same. I root against our rivals, but that’s the extent of it. When they win, I shrug and say too bad. Would never spend my money on something so stupid.

As we've gotten farther into the tournament, the "easiest path" talk has irritated me more and more, and for those that have seen me occasionally go on about "MSU Neighbor" on Twitter, he is one of the people who continues to beat this drum. I think the answer is simple - play who is in front of you. You certainly can't help your position in the brackets or the outcome of games in that bracket, so play who is in front of you. As I like to ask him lately, "Hey, how'd that Syracuse game go? I didn't see the end, I'm afraid..."

I’ve seen posted by Sparties. I mean, you idiots essentially had a home game, two lottery picks, and you lose to a play-in, last team invited 11 seed. I mean, really you are gonna say we’ve had it easy? You were gifted the sweet 16 and couldn’t even do that ffs

Michigan State gets the easiest region CONSTANTLY it seems. And still haven't done anything with it in 18 very long years. This year they finally get put in a tough region and they can't even survive long enough to play those tough opponents. MSU Basketball is a mess, and Michigan Basketball fans have nothing to prove to them since Beilein has been kicking Izzos ass with regularity.

Man, Michigan State fans are not even worth your breath during this run Michigan has been on. They're all so bitter that their Lord and Savior Izzo gets out coached by Beilein (and most good coaches in general) on a regular basis. His one sole title came 18 years ago... and ever since then we hear about "Mr March" and everyone kisses their ass and puts them in the Finals on brackets. But for 18 straight years they have been wrong. And the past three years they can't even get out of the first weekend... that's insanely embarrassing. Michigan is blowing past MSU these past few years and not looking back.

I'm just glad we gave them someone to root against tomorrow night. It must have been boring sitting at home these last couple of weekends with nothing to do.

Yeah most truck driving pissants are salty and unhappy as a function of their station in life. Michigan really has little to do with it. They’d otherwise be complaining that the government is tryin’ to take their guns and cracking down on cousin fuckin’.
