Uhhh...I'm glad we got the guy we wanted when we did. Coaching Carousel is an apocalyptic hellscape.
December 1st, 2017 at 1:36 PM ^
I'm really hoping that now we get Taggart to FSU and Sumlin to Oregon. Now that would make for a true Coaching Carousel. Could happen.
December 1st, 2017 at 1:50 PM ^
Taggart is headed to FSU- he's GOT to be. He has to be an absolute steal for FSU. He's not the circus that Jimbo has been for 2+ years for them.
As for Sumlin to Oregon, I hope not, but you're probably right. I wonder if Frost has any interest in Oregon over Nebraska?
Odd thought: If Chip Kelly had waited a week, he could've just jumped right back to Oregon...

Tre'Shaun Harrison would be an awesome addition.
December 1st, 2017 at 6:13 PM ^
I don't follow recruiting too closely anymore but I've seen his film and it is...impressive.
Do want.
Sidenote: I hope UM can find a way to sign Michael Johnson Jr., the 2019 QB who is the son of the WR coach Harbaugh was going to hire which caused Dickhead Finebaum to lose his shit until Johnson's father went to Oregon and everything was A-OK.
Also do want.
December 1st, 2017 at 1:57 PM ^
Harbaugh's coaching tree is now about to include Stanford and Florida State. Nuts.
December 1st, 2017 at 2:22 PM ^
Florida State, Syracuse for a bit, Maryland, Nevada for a bit, and depeneding, Vic Fangio and Greg Roman may still get NFL HC jobs, and Jedd Fisch, and Tim Drevno are looking to be HCs sooner. Though personally his coaching tree isn't as prestigeous as Lane Kiffin's, who can claim USC, LSU, and depending, Tennessee by the end of this week.
December 1st, 2017 at 2:02 PM ^
If the reportedly subpar facilities at FSU were an issue for Jimbo, would Taggert be willing to leave Oregon's Nike infused top of the line facilties to take that job?
Would talent rich Florida be enough to over come the deficiency?
December 1st, 2017 at 2:07 PM ^
would Taggart be willing to leave his first big time job after just one year? Plenty of other coaches have refused to do that.
December 1st, 2017 at 2:12 PM ^
Leaving after one year permanantly marks you as a Lane Kiffin-esque douch bag. Kiffin is purposely staying at UCF (it seems) because he's now self-aware enough to know that you can't flake out on commitments without repercussions.
December 1st, 2017 at 2:18 PM ^
Kiffin's at FAU. Scott Frost is at UCF.
December 1st, 2017 at 3:04 PM ^
I could see Frost but not Kiffin to FSU. I think Kiffin is still viewed by many as "damaged goods". I just don't understand this move. I know Jimbo went through a nasty divorce about 2 years ago. Maybe he feels like he wants a brand new start somewhere. Just perplexes me. This isn't even a lateral move.

Before beating OSU last year, he was on the hot seat. Moorehead makes him look like a genius..and he loses him, and Barkley this year. Still in a division with Michigan, MSU & OSU...if he was ever to leave, FSU is a program no one would question why he left.
December 1st, 2017 at 3:01 PM ^
hes a PA guy coaching PSU - i dont like PSU and think franklin is a clown (i wouldnt hire him at a big program) but its still a primo job. while its not bama, texas, usc, etc, and theyre obviously under a cloud (deservedly), a PA dude like franklin would struggle to find bigger gig than PSU

I don't think Franklin was ever really on the hot seat. They were still in rebuilding mode post-sanctions when he arrived.
December 1st, 2017 at 2:12 PM ^
I thought he just signed an extention or new deal that paid him $20 mil at Oregon. I'm sure that was just to get a better buyout.
December 1st, 2017 at 2:27 PM ^
I heard yesterday that he hasn't signed it yet, and was waiting until Sunday. Seems like he was waiting on Jimbo's decision...
December 1st, 2017 at 2:53 PM ^
Why does everyone assume Taggart would leave Oregon after just one season? Oregon may not be on the level of FSU as a blueblood, but Uncle Phil's generosity ensures that Oregon will always have a virtually limitless pool of money for facilities, coaches' salaries, and whatever else Taggart needs to build a winner. I think that makes Oregon a destination job.
December 1st, 2017 at 3:27 PM ^
I think he is born/raised in Florida. Besides WKU, most of his ties are in Florida.
December 1st, 2017 at 5:49 PM ^
of Frost to Oregon if Taggart does go to FSU. It has been a crazy carousel this year and it doesn't seem to be ending anytime soon.
December 1st, 2017 at 7:48 PM ^
isnt a done deal that many assumed it will be. Taggart is about 75/25 that he'll stay at Oregon as opposed to taking the FSU job.

Fisher's relationship with the brass and the boosters at FSU had soured, and going 5-6 this season didn't help matters. He's also apparently not much of a player's coach, and his team basically quit on him as the season wore on and the questions about his future became louder.
Texas A&M is a sleeping giant of a program. They're not a blueblood on the level of FSU, but they have the resources, facilities, recruiting, and fan support to get to that level. There's no program with more untapped potential than TAMU, especially now that they're in the SEC and no longer live in Texas' shadow. With the contract they just gave Fisher ($75 million over 10 years, fully guaranteed), it looks like they're willing to do whatever it takes to realize it.
December 1st, 2017 at 1:29 PM ^
Now you get to play Bama every season.
December 1st, 2017 at 2:25 PM ^
will be 67 before A&M plays Alabama again. He may keep coaching forever because he's a robot, but I think I'd be more concerned with playing Clemson every year, just because I would bet money Dabo is at Clemson in 3 years.
December 1st, 2017 at 2:56 PM ^
Actually, Dabo is basically Saban's successor-in-waiting, so if Fisher is trying to get away from Dabo, he might have miscalculated.
Having said that, I doubt that Saban, Dabo, or any of TAMU's or FSU's opponents have anything to do with Fisher's decision.
December 2nd, 2017 at 12:29 AM ^
that he'll leave Clemson for Alabama. No one wants to be the coach that follows the legend, especially since he'll be in damn good situation as is.
