What a trip down memory lane.  Steve Smith from GB, Leach from FSW, Zurbrugg filling in for Harbaugh (and Rein?), Demetrius Brown and his epic bad day against MSU.  Brown was so physically gifted with the arm and wheels.

11/11/2018 - 8:54am That will ending around 8pm.

That will ending around 8pm.

Carl vs. PSU guy was more of a blowout than the game.  The combination of God-given pipes and the professionalism IMO are/were matched only by Paul Carey (for us old guys).  Carl does add the subtle flair when appropriate but always with an understated delivery.  We are blessed at Michigan Stadium as Howard King was almost as good for many years beforehand while Carl was only announcing the band.

At 48 years of age I still wear black shoes, short socks, and long shorts to my weekly ball session.  Seeing kids wearing shorter shorts and long socks takes me back to days of Kelly Tripucka and Terry Tyler.

I'm old . . . I was buying Hip and TMBG CDs because downloading wasn't yet a thing I comprehended.  Speaking of the Hip, we in MI were really lucky that our proximity/commerce/culture accorded us exposure to things Canadian.  Living in the Flint area I would listen to partial reception of 89X to discover The Hip, Ghandarvas, Moev, etc.

It is very interesting how people can look at something so differently.  I absolutely love winter:  real winter, with cold and snow--not that 38 degrees and rain BS that chills you to the bone.  And I just hate heat and humidity.  How people can like months on end of oppressive heat and air so thick with moisture you can nearly cut it with a knife is beyond me.  And that swamp ass every time you sit in your car doesn't help.

If I remember correctly the Detroit area is #2 right behind Seattle for the fewest number of sunny days per year.

Charles White.  Phantom holding in Bo's last game.  Eddie Brown tackles Desmond.  Countless plays at ND.  The Spot.  We have been getting boned since I was a little kid.

Spot on.  I had the same concern during the game.

I sit right along back line of endzone in south end of stadium; it was amazing how high above the uprights Nordin's FG was.  Good from at least 25 more yards.

"Throes" is SO appropriate when referencing last year's passing game.

And isn't the B1G communism embodied?  Take bowl money from those who earn it and give equally to all regardless of merit?  Delaney is a Commie.

Hasn't NW been running the anti-manball spreadiest of spreads for years?    Pat may want to check for overt leftism in his own house.

Bleagh.

Come on, man.  M's loss at ND was clearly an indicator that the team, Harbaugh, and all things Michigan are a failure.  MSU's loss in the desert was a function of universal conspiracy against MSU and clearly indicates how much better Sparty is than M.

09/07/2018 - 11:51am NBC was a bit selective…

NBC was a bit selective about their replays, weren't they?  Two quickly come to mind, one being the "hold" Brian references, the other the hit in McKeon's face NBC never bothered to show us.

Dennis Dixon was on his way to a Heisman until he had a knee blowout a week or two later.

Come on, man.  NCAA doesn't punish minor shit like sexual assault, domestic assault, lying/obfuscation, academic fraud, cash payments, student deaths, etc.  They only have time for big stuff, like cream cheese, giving kids car rides, and stretching.

Noting the sarcasm, several Michigan ACLs from the late 80s/early 90s agree with you.

Not gonna lose sleep over this, but I share your sentiment (if rather less intensely).  I would gladly trade a Minnesota today for a Buttgers and Maryland any day.

That horse is miles away by time Urban/OSU tried to close the barn door.

08/21/2018 - 12:15pm Olatide Ogunfiditimi was the…

Olatide Ogunfiditimi was the first name that popped in my head when I saw the title.  Tyrone Butterf(ingers)ield was another.  And all those unpronounceable eastern and central European names (much like my own) on the sidelines.

08/20/2018 - 10:48pm In most cases, I would…

In most cases, I would probably agree with you.  However, in this case, they (SJWs) would not just be randomly looking for something which offends them.  Meyer knowingly hired and retained a serial domestic abuser.  And OSU may well choose to protect their football program and money train over a women beaten for what, nearly a decade?  For better or worse, that decision in today's America makes you a target.  And deservedly so.

08/20/2018 - 10:05pm The President of OSU has to…

The President of OSU has to know feminists, women's advocacy groups, media of all stripes, and who knows who else (and I don't say these things disparagingly, but simply as a statement of fact as I see it) are ready to mobilize as soon as it's announced Urban stays.  Columbus will be overrun within 24 hours.  There may be a blitz of sports media types if Urban were to be fired, but the all out media attack on OSU for placing the program above a beaten woman would be massive.  They can't be blind to cultural shift that has taken place in this country, where "looking the other way" is no longer accepted as business as usual.  It will be an interesting watch.

A talent likely never to be equaled.  GOAT "rock era" female singer IMO.

FWIW, about him and his team in particular, I agree that if Millington and Frankenmuth blow his doors off, how will he beat OSU and Wiscy?

08/10/2018 - 9:30pm The Tri Valley is pretty…

The Tri Valley is pretty good.  Millington, Frankenmuth, Ithaca, and often Swan Valley advance deep in the playoffs annually.  It's not Division I powerhouse schools, but is very competetive in its divisions.  To say the conference is terrible is very uninformed.

08/07/2018 - 2:34pm What a great time that was. …

What a great time that was.  For whatever reason, in the Grand Blanc area we did not lose power.  Work was cancelled for 2 days (GM Tech Center and Lansing Grand River Asm were closed).  Traffic on 75 was heavy coming to the Flint area for hotels with AC.  I vividly remember listening to WJR on the road when there was a small pop and then a few seconds of dead air, and then growing news of a blackout.  Drove to Lansing the next morning, and started to realize the extent of the blackout when the plant was closed.  From there went a bought my then future son a ball glove.  Great time!

08/01/2018 - 4:01pm Worst weather for a game…

Worst weather for a game ever.  Absolutely miserable.  Even the 5-0 Purdue game, which I think was later that same season, was better.

Very interesting.  I can think of two M backs right off the top of my head to both support and contradict this formula.

Tyrone Wheatley:  huge with damn near world class speed.  His M career lined up with what the formula predicts.

Mike Hart:  small back with a (relatively) slow 40.  Formula says not so good; obviously of M's best ever.

Yale Van Dyne.  Great hands, always open, a wonderful complement to his running mate Desmond Someone-or-other.

07/20/2018 - 12:00pm SW corner, halfway up,…

SW corner, halfway up, because that is where they put me (after I sat on 45, halfway up, on west side for years due to a connection).  Thanks Dave for killing that.  FWIW, I would always choose to sit on the west side because of the sun.

07/16/2018 - 1:12pm My friend, rugby is the…

My friend, rugby is the sport for you.  Elements very similar to our beloved American football, but with a much greater emphasis on kicking the ball (and no blocking).  Full-on tackling with an absolute minimum to no padding.  It is no exaggeration that rugby players at almost all levels play through sprains, strains, tears, breaks, lacerations, you name it.  They come off the pitch only when absolutely necessary.  Not to denigrate soccer . . . it's a wonderful game played by unquestionably world-class athletes. Never ceases to amaze how people can handle the ball with their feet.  It is absolutely a contact sport, and I share your disdain for the diving, or "play-acting" as they call it across the Pond.  Cleaning up that aspect would only help.

This kid's athleticism and skill clearly indicate he's under-ranked.  Speaking of that, it seems that ratings are not nearly as timely and comprehensive as they have been in the past.  As one who does not follow it too closely, has there been downturn in the industry?  And if this continues, does the star system become less reliable?

While I respect your opinion, I think the Notorious DOA was one of the first indicators of the demise of rap.  Unintelligible gibberish, with almost arhythmic beats and bass.  Day and night from the likes of Chuck D. and Rakim.

06/07/2018 - 3:26pm Rap as a viable music form…

Rap as a viable music form died some time around 1993.  Rock is on life support.

Flint coneys are vastly superior to Detroit

Jim Carrey movies are awful.

I always thought Northwestern would be a great candidate for hockey.  Great location, proximity to Great Lakes area talent, money to burn (judging by their new lakefront facility), academics, etc.

05/23/2018 - 1:40pm My very first car (in 1986)

My very first car (in 1986) was an '82 Buick Skylark from this family.  Ran great, had the indestructible 2.5L 4 cylinder (Iron Duke it was known as, IIRC).  For an '82, it was loaded . . . power locks/windows, AC, FM stereo, etc.  Only rust was on the deck lid, which I bought a replacement for in a junkyard for next to nothing and had painted for free at the dealership I had a summer job at.  Very nice velvet-like seats (not 70s pimp velvet, but nice material).  Kinda wish I still had it as a tongue-in-cheek "cruise" vehicle.

05/23/2018 - 12:03pm I was in the student section

I was in the student section (26, maybe, that year) in the very lower rows. That play was right in front of me. I threw even more marshmallows in my rage.
