Yes, funny to see the…

Yes, funny to see the talking heads first hyping up Tennessee, then LSU, and now Alabama like the SEC deserves two teams in the playoff regardless of their record.  Nobody is talking about why Alabama should be considered any good based on their play this year.

Did Alabama have any impressive wins?  Nope.  Beat 4 loss Texas by 1.  Beat 7 loss A&M by 4.  Beat 4 loss Old Miss by 6.  Beat 4 loss Miss St. by 24.  There it is, put them in.

It really is kind of sad how ESPN controls the narrative on who should be in the playoff by harping on every other conference team's bad loss or weak schedule when the SEC teams they keep pushing are laughably less accomplished.

What did we hear all week?  Michigan shouldn't get in if they lose because of their 3 weak non-conference opponents.  They don't mention that almost every team in the SEC plays 4 weak non-conference games year in and year out with only an occasional game against a weak Power 5 conference team.  It's amazing that nobody talks about this.

Seven loses for the Big Ten…

Seven loses for the Big Ten West.  Zero loses for the Big Ten East.  Good thing expansion will force a new conference alignment.

I think it would be…

I think it would be interesting to see the number of 5* players each school has recruited along side of the number of 1st round draft picks.  There will obviously be a large correlation but might also give an idea of what schools are developing more talent that didn't arrive ready made for the NBA.

That sounds like "If you don…

That sounds like "If you don't believe what I believe, go back to where you belong."  Maybe you could be in charge of immigration for a certain administration.  Mmm.

I just took a quick look at…

I just took a quick look at the numbers on worldmeters.info and see the following:

Sweden:  Total cases per million population - 7,312

Deaths per million population - 543

Michigan:  Total cases per million population - 7,465

Deaths per million population - 627

Has Michigan with it's strict lockdown not done worse than Sweden up until now?  While lockdowns may well help a lot, it certainly can't be proven by this comparison.  Information about this virus is still coming in daily so it doesn't make sense to not keep an open mind and to continue to discuss the evolving science rather than getting stuck on a particular political narrative.

No.  Even with the bubble…

No.  Even with the bubble scenario that the NBA has put together, it is starting to look a bit iffy.  For large teams that have to travel and play in each other's faces, the outlook currently looks grim.  Once a few schools declare that they won't play, most everybody else will be quick to follow.  The few holdouts will have nobody left to play but I'll guess that they all declare another national championship for themselves.

So true.  I rarely watched…

So true.  I rarely watched the news for the last 30 years but now suddenly with no sports on I've been flipping back and forth between Fox and CNN.

It really is amazing that there really is no common news between the two.  All you get is each side's spin on the happenings of the day where the stories have absolutely no resemblance to each other.  I can only assume that all of this slant is done because it manages to influence some people but I'm finding it all very unwatchable and very different from what I remember from 30 years ago.

Well maybe those that want…

Well maybe those that want to protect their families from the virus could shelter in place.  Duh.

Well maybe if both parties…

Well maybe if both parties can't agree that it is a good idea, it probably shouldn't be done.  This is why the executive power and legislative power wind up being held by opposite parties very frequently both nationally and in states.  People don't trust either party with absolute power so they flip their votes to the other side to keep government from being able to operate too effectively.

You can't deny that mid-term elections are almost always won by the party that doesn't control the executive branch.  People just don't trust government and politicians to do the right thing when they have total power.

People don't want their Governors or Presidents to be able to declare an indefinitely long state of emergency and then become dictators.

It seems obvious that the…

It seems obvious that the strategy of spreading out was not a great one given that we had the most star power.  This allowed all of the other teams to join together to hit us which would be their desired strategy.  If we do this again, the focus should be to singularly focus on one enemy at a time early on and limit the number of powers that we are adjacent to.  Attacking 40 territories and defending 25 may sound good but it really isn't optimal.

Earl Weaver Baseball on the…

I'll go back ten years for free as I'd instantly become rich with my knowledge of the future.

All effort should be made to…

All effort should be made to eliminate Stanford.  You may think of them as a mere annoyance but now you have 15 territories, all of which need to be defended.  You really aren't going to get anywhere until you can minimize the number of territories that need to be defended.  It doesn't seem like there is any strategy.  Trying to defend the current position is a total loser.

Decide a goal and then put all your resources to achieving it.  If you try to do too many things then you will fail at all of them.  The current position will just get you unending churn as it will take all your resources just to more or less hold this bad position.  Be bold and commit to a single goal.

There is still time to move on to a next goal after the first is accomplished and you will find it easier to be single minded.  So what is it?  Stanford?  A&M?  Ohio State?  Plenty of time to punish anybody rather than being everybody's punching bag.

It would seem that the…

It would seem that the Michigan side needs a new coordinator unless the strategy is to expose as many territories to as many enemies as possible.  Given the fact that we have the most star power with the least to show for it tells you that we have found the one guy at Michigan dumber than a Buckeye.

Even the season 1 dumb strategy looks better than this one.

I'll give you a tip, look at the map and figure out the what area can be defended with the fewest territories exposed and head there with the full power at your disposal and then expand from there.  Even a Buckeye seems to know that much.

Well that initial version of the new site had me in a panic.  Couldn't find the forums and felt the quality of my day going downhill fast without my mgoblog fix.  Much relieved to see things up again. Don't do something like this again.

The Deer Hunter

The Deer Hunter

I'm really hoping that now we

I'm really hoping that now we get Taggart to FSU and Sumlin to Oregon. Now that would make for a true Coaching Carousel. Could happen.

Exit Michael Johnson

I don't know if this has been mentioned but I saw that Michael Johnson has decided to head to Oregon.

"It has been a whirlwind of a week. On Monday morning, I began my journey to the University of Michigan. By Tuesday evening, with Jim Harbaugh's blessing, a new journey had begun to the University of Oregon. God's ways are mysterious indeed! At the University of Oregon, I will be the new Wide Receiver Coach. I owe it to all of you who have prayed, and supported me and my family, throughout my time at TKA."

Another possibility if you

Another possibility if you are going early.  Just park on Agnew or a close side street and walk to the stadium along the creek trail which will be closed on a game day but if you show a ticket, you will be allowed to access the short cut to the stadium.

Got to be BASEketball.  Worst

Got to be BASEketball.  Worst movie ever.

And people that start threads

Madden was an absolute

Madden was an absolute monster on the penalty kill and still holds NCAA records for short handed goals in a season (10) and career (23). Then he put in another 18 in the NHL.

I don't know.  Pitching is a

I don't know.  Pitching is a specialty that 8 guys don't have to practice or do.  Having the one guy that has to pitch, not hit, doesn't seem to be that big of a departure.

Lucrative kind of means that people like it.  So in your world "entertaining" is the equivalent of "pathetic"????

If you want to know which way

If you want to know which way the wind is blowing in this decades long argument, just look at what high schools and colleges have chosen.  If you look at that, the NL is standing alone more and more at the outlier.

Maybe a better analogy would

Maybe a better analogy would be for baseball to require that everybody take a turn pitching.

I'll go with 1970 where the

I'll go with 1970 where the entire defense thought it was hilarious that New Orleans was trying a 63 yard field goal, until Tom Dempsey boots it through to the amazement of all at that time.  It could only have been the Lions to lose in a way never dreamed of until then.

If Brady's suspension stays

If Brady's suspension stays at 4 games, I'll take the Jets.  Their defense looks scary good.

It's got to be women's hockey

It's got to be women's hockey next.  The sport has really started to take off and Michigan is well situated to compete for championships.  Facilities seem to be the primary issue but any potential solution could also help the men's team so it seems like a win-win as the next big investment.

I'm very happy to have voting

I'm very happy to have voting back but I still think that it is essential that negative voting is free so that every comment that isn't useful in some way, gets punished.  This is what it will take to increase the quality of comments to the point that people want to read them again.

I used to read all the

I used to read all the comments and used to happily do my part to send the jerks to Bolivia and upvote things that made me smile or laugh or think.  Once the voting system changed, things started to get a lot worse as posting a lot became more important than posting only quality.  When that voting system went away, not much changed but things got ever worse to the point that I usually wasn't able to read past the first 5 comments on any new thread.

Hopefully, a new voting system will be in place again that will encourge thoughtfulness in every comment.  Where people will understand that even a dumb post like, "I agree", will cause them to lose their precious points.  Lacking such a system, I fear that the comments will remain what they have become and that is the unreadable drivel of people that like to hear themselves talk but nobody really wants to hear from.

My fingers are crossed that the one working voting system that I've ever seen will return.  If not, I guess the comments will stay off-limits for me.

One of my all-time favorite

Jim Harbaugh is a good

Jim Harbaugh is a good example of a Michigan quaterback that was a passer first but could definitely hurt you with his legs.  I think he is a perfect example of what we should always be looking for in a quaterback under the current system.

I still have nightmares about

I still have nightmares about that movie.  Worst ever.

That's nothing.  I grew up in

That's nothing.  I grew up in a small market town and the News / Weather / Sports anchors were always new.  If after a year they could somehow manage to string two coherent sentences together, they would get hired by some slightly bigger market and the next newbie would be rolled out.  It wasn't unusually for a debut to consist of completely freezing up like a deer in the headlights and not being able to speak a single word.  You get 30 seconds of that and then you're talking about awkward.  Get two frozen ones at once and you have a contest of which one is going to faint first with a cameraman bouncing back and forth clearly enjoying the situation and likely having a bet on which would wet themselves, swear, or pass out first. After a while you realize that it makes for a more entertaining show than the news anyway.

I think that 3 years is

I think that 3 years is enough.  Phil Hubbard left early and made the list while Ricky Green who was as critial to the 1976 finals run did not since he was a JC transfer and only played two years at Michigan.  The problem is that most great players in this day and age will stay only 1 or 2 years at the most.  This means that Grant and Rose are really the only two candidates left with a likely shot at the honor.  I'll predict that we have seen the last such banner raised.

I agree.  I see Burke going

I agree.  I see Burke going in the top 10 and maybe even top 5.  Top point guards are hard to find and Burke is starting to look like a potential elite one.  Hardaway, while a good player does not have the look of an NBA star so he will likely fall into the 2nd round even with the improvements we've seen in his game.  Robinson is an unknown at this time and will likely stay another year to develop his game given his limited role so far.  If he did declare after one year, somebody would roll the dice and grab him in the first round but if he thinks he has lottery potential then staying another year to showcase improved skills would likely net him the most $ which seems to be the goal these days.
