OT: Bacari Alexander suspended
November 20th, 2017 at 5:55 PM ^
UDMercy calls it a "personnel matter".
That, plus the timing, points to some significant misstep on Coach Alexander's part. I hope it's relatively benign - for all concerned. Like the OP, I liked his work for our team.

usually non-serious things will get called "a leave of absence" or something like that. It's rare that being suspended ends well

I can't see how it could be benign, but we'll soon find out I guess.

I agree, there is no way 2012 is suspicious. Look at the offers each of the kids had. With the exception of Mitch, UM was the best offer each had. how is that suspicious? GRIII had an "offer" from kansas, but who knows how committable that offer was?

yeah, but that context is incredibly superficial. Dig even a little and it becomes very reasonable. Plus, if it was something underhanded, why would they have only done it that 1 year? Makes no sense

That class ranking was mostly because we identified guys who blew up as seniors. McGary was the only one who was highly regarded before he committed.
November 20th, 2017 at 7:27 PM ^
It has much more effect than in football. 2012 - 5 players, 2015 - 1 player. 2011 and 2013 each had 3. That matters.
November 20th, 2017 at 10:28 PM ^
No offense, but why is anyone replying to this asshat. Not the OP...
November 20th, 2017 at 8:19 PM ^
GRIII committed early as a three star before he blew up. Purdue wasn't even after him then. McGary was the only real high level contest. Levert was snake oiled from OHIO. Spike was an 11th hour signing to cover for a potential Burke jump to NBA; Apr 2012. Beilein was also in on Stauskus very early before he blew up. He was the first commit; in March 2011.
You are wayyyyyyy off base here.

Wait, this may be dumber.

They committed before that. But the program was clearly on the upswing. 2010-11 was the Darius Morris "GTFO My Court" year.
Even so, LeVert/Stauskas/GRIII all saw their stock go up a bunch their senior years - at the time of their commitments they were sleepers. McGary was the one blue-chipper we won a real battle for, and we had an in with him because of Zach Novak.
November 20th, 2017 at 7:28 PM ^
Look again at that 2012 class. GRIII was the highest ranked member. He was a 3* when he committed early whose only other offer was Valparaiso. Stauskas was a fairly lightly recruited player for a 4*. We were his best offer. Albrecht was a 0* whose only other offer was App. State. Levert was a low 3* who decommitted from Ohio U when their coach moved to Illinois. He would have followed him to Illinois but Groce didn't want him. That leaves Mitch McGary, the one high profile recruit in the class.
If Bacari was able to outbid Duke, Kentucky and others for Mitch, why couldn't he do it again? Michigan was suddenly a more prominent program after their trip to the finals, but our recruiting never took off.
November 20th, 2017 at 7:39 PM ^
and Mitch idolized Novak which is why he ended up here.

His Dudeness calls anyone who criticizes the football program a troll, but now he comes out with possibly the dumbest post of the year.
Gtfo with this garbage. Troll.

Nope, this is the dumbest.

C'mon how could we beat Ohio out for Lavert without cheating and getting Ibi Watson and Eli Brooks clearly had bagman written all over it. Don't forget about 2* MAAR. Clearly cheating at the highest level.
November 20th, 2017 at 9:06 PM ^
GRIII was a 3* no one when he committed. Burke was a 3* from Ohio that OSU passed on. As noted above, LeVert was snatched from Ohio U's grasp at the buzzer. McGary was the only top 10 recruit we got. This is the dumbest of takes

That is one of the single dumbest things I have ever read in this space. And that is an incredibly high standard of stupidity.

Thanks Captain Obvi? I mean the post said my guess... The reason you have 3 upvotes is why this blog is jumping the shark.
