Tom and Gisele Wait Two Years to Get Accepted Into Country Club Next to Home

Submitted by FauxMo on

The article says that "application was stalled for two years while members debated whether the high-profile couple was a good fit."

What in the hell were they debating? Brady seems to be a model citizen, so it can't be a "crazy athlete" fear. Could it be the immigrant supermodel wife? That would seem absurd, even for the white-bred East Coast set...

The old men didnt need Tom going Super Bowl hero, and smashing their club's records. They had no clue how good he was at golf, how skilled he was with a golf cart, nor if he could tell taller tales while chugging booze at the club house.

Besides that, how would you like see his wife, then go home to the same ole crackers*?

I bet some members are still pissed he got in.

*= reference to the Eddie Murphy skit about thinking a woman was a Ritz, only to realize she is a regular cracker after waiting months to get some. No racist.

I love how normal Tom Brady seems. All that crap that happens to us happens to him too. He just dominates the NFL and has a billionaire, model wife on the side.

Pretty sure all the stuff that happens to Brady does not happen to most folks. Most folks don't win five Super Bowls, get married to supermodels, and then proceed to get admitted to one oft the oldest, most prestigious country clubs in America.

I think if most of us applied for membership to Brookline the only thing we'd get is a foot in the ass and a toss out the door.

it was because the membership commitee was afraid Tom and Gisele couldn't afford the stock purchase (entry fees) and the monthy dues . . .

But seriously, as several have already pointed out, it's true that the Country Club is dominated by old money and traditional politics. It's run by folks who've had everything their way forever. Maybe the thought of a "celebrity" (gasp!) infiltrating their hallowed halls raised fears of media intrusions and members at the practice tee looking agahst at seeing Alan Branch whacking golf balls before his round with Tom and two other teammates.

But the more likely explanation is that a country club's golf-playing memberships are limited to the number who can play the golf course pretty much on demand. At a place like the Country Club, an applicant probably has to wait until a "A" membership opens up, and there were undoubtedly a number of qualified applicants ahead of Tom. So a 2-year wait for a spot in such a place would not be unheard of.

The vast majority of Country Club members are probably happy to welcome Tom to their ranks, but only according to their own rules.

Virtually all private clubs have limits on the number of members permitted.  The waiting lists are chronolgical and the opportunity is provided to the next person on the list.  It would really be frowned upon if any potential member jumps the line in front of others that are on the list.

You are corrent regading the number of golf or full memberships.......it is based on the number of  rounds that can be played in a year so that the course does not become too crowded or worn down.

The Pacific Club in Newport Beach CA, which hosts the Mr. Irrelevant award each year, black balled Georgia Frontiere for at least five consecutive years.

She inherited the Los Angeles Rams when her then husband Carroll Rosenbloom drowned in 1979.......when the Rams were a good team.  The Rams went downhill every year under her ownership and I believe were 2 -14 the last year before they moved to St. Louis.  The team became so terrible that season tickets went into the drink so she could make the argument to move to a new stadium in St. Louis.

I had season tickets then and hated her for that move.  It sure was fun when the Rams were a good team.

And this is why people don't like New England and Boston.

Is Tom Brady that much of a d-bag that he wants to be part of a country club like this?

Two years seems like a pretty long time unless they only consider new members once or twice a year.  There's a process, so I applaud both sides for keeping things as close to private as possible.

I mean, it's actually really clear and stated in the quote: whether they were a "good fit".  Yes, of course, money and things like that are important, but at the end of the day these are clubs where it's important that the people actually like each other and will get along.  I am sure you can think of plenty of "model citizens" who you just actually don't really like that much (think: the "would it be fun to have beers with this person" standard).  Pretty much a lot like recruiting when people don't understand why a player, who is perfect on paper, chooses a school that makes no sense on paper.

Tom went to a public school in "Indian country" out west and Gisele is not from the U.S. originally.  That's the way the blue-blood snobs from the East think.

has a three year wait list. Of course, it's a badminton club and the only reason the wait list is that long is because we only have a dozen parking places. If we let folks on the waitlist in, the parking lot would quickly be overwhelmed. We'd have to park on the street and the neighbors would go effing crazy.

Have to pronouce it properly.  Had the opportunity to play there once, place is a proctologist dream!!!!  Traditionally, THEE Country Club only wanted members whose name would appear in the newspaper 3 x in their life:

1. Birth announcement

2. Wedding announcement

3. Obituary

I would assume that the problem lies with what goes with a couple like them. You know if they show up for the Friday night walleye fry there is a certain amount of baggage that travels with them. Whether they want it or not.

I'm sure the club would totally appreciate some Bostonian drunk hanging on the fence screaming, "Brady for President, hiccup, G-O-A-T!!!", during a members back swing.

Met sone members and created a media policy... Tom has been playing the course regularly over the last 2 years and I am sure Gisele was allowed on premise as well.
