Give me my negs!

Because... I told you so (most recently in my last post 3 weeks ago)!

It's funny watching so many now act as if this wasn't hard to see coming. It shouldn't have been. But it's been a lonely opinion to have around here for some time.

Unless Shane Morris is a late bloomer, he will never play a meaningful snap at Michigan.

I wish Shane nothing but the best and I hope he proves me wrong and becomes the QB we all thought he would be.

of every team Bo and Mo and Lloyd had, and read off the names, row by row. You can't get more than two rows in before you start seeing names and faces you know never started, never got their names called by Ufer or Beckman on the radio, never got the headlines on ESPN, guys with no career stats, guys who nobody paid attention to outside Schembechler Hall and the practice field. They stayed, and the vast majority of them got to experience the satisfaction and joy of being part of a championship at least once. They got their degrees, and have made damned nice lives for themselves since.

Maybe Shane Morris loves attending school at Michigan, loves Ann Arbor, loves the campus, has good friends here, and loves being on the team, loves being at practice, and above all loves running through the tunnel on game day. Maybe all those things more than outweigh the personal disappointments he's suffered as a member of the Michigan football program, and wants to be a part—even if it's as a practice player—of a championship team here. If he does, he's every bit as much a Michigan Man as any other guy on the team.

And 100x the Michigan Man of any "fan" saying on the internet that he should have his scholarship yanked.

Thyere's a great story about Hackett in Bo's lasting Lessons; Bo is on the phone with President Ford when Hackett shows up at his office to talk to the coach.  Bo's rule was that players come first, no exceptions.  So, he has to cut short his conversation with The President of the United States to talk to his walk-on center.  I wasn't that Hackett didn't have an appointment; there were no appointments.  If a player needed to see Bo, they didnt schedule a meeting, they just met Bo, then and there.

Hacket was demoralized because he was the scout team center, and was getting crushed in every practive by the huge Michigan defenseive line.  He, and the rest of the guys on the line, are suffering because they aren't nearly good enough to win those matchups.  He couldn't see any reason to go on getting beaten up and sore.

Bo's response was that, yes, it was the lot of the scout teams to suffer at the hands of players a lot better than they were.  But that was the price they paid for making the starters suffer a bit, too.  The starters would get better if they were made to suffer for any mistakes.  The scout teams guys would suffer more, but the starters would be motivated by the pain received from the scout team.  Bo told Hacket that his lot was to suffer for the good of the team, and challenge the starters as much as they phydically could.  They had to out-tough the starters, because they couldn't outplay them.

Hackett got that, and he took that back to the scout team (whose unofficial leader he was).  He explained how they should be proud of their suffering, and that the more they suffered, the better off the team was, because scout teams only really suffer when the starters are freeling pushed past their own comfort zone and they start taking it out on the scout team players.

Bo was enormously proud of his scout teams' toughness and that Hacket's teams were the toughest of the tough.

Even if THAT is what Shane ends up doing, Hackett can show him how to do it with pride.

He definitely has as good of arm talent as we've seen.

I am not sure how sold Harbaugh is on him, but he's gotta respect the kid paying his dues...I know I do.

Good luck, Shane. Rooting for you.

I get this a blog and opinions are shared, discussed, and debated, but damn the hostility towards a member of OUR team!

Shane doesn't have to set the field on fire to be a member of the team he wants to play for. The decision is his and Harbaugh's!

Just like Dawkins, I despise the fact that Michigan acts with class toward its student athletes and honors its commitments to them. I hate the fact that we don't penalize hard-working, upstanding athletes for not becoming contributors and "taking away a scholarship from a deserving underclassmen". I find it especially irksome that Michigan has to commit to these athletes the same way that the athletes commit to the school.

Hell, while we're at it, I also find it cumbersome how Michigan decides to win with honor and class by refusing to use bagmen to bring in recruits.

I believe we need to plummet down the ESS EEE SEE's level.

P.S. To be clear, all of this: /S

You don't have to be a starter to help the team, and there is such a thing as a late bloomer. You never know when the light bulb goes on for a guy, and there are plenty of NFL QBs who don't have his physical tools. Take the Michigan degree even if you never play another down, man. Good choice.

I hope God kicks Dawkins off the earth. He is using up oxygen that a more deserving life form could use. You can't just use up that oxygen on a piece of shit of the most important species. We can use it to give life to someone more likely to benefit humanity, like a louse. Even though he performed well compared to the other feeble sperm his dad should have saved for the toilet bowl, you have to admit that was weak competition. He was over rated as a sperm by his mother, who should have just swallowed him. Nothing in his history on this blog suggests he will ever develop into an decent person.

Not really. My original plan was to respond to each of his posts and simply mimicking his stupid opinions by subbing in his mom for Shane and my penis for a scholarship. Not out of rage, but because I think his point of view is so inane that only that type of response is appropriate. But I just don't have it in me because I'm not a ragey guy in general, and this kind of moron only inspires ridicule, not anger.

The DAMN thing in the hallway says "THOSE WHO STAY..." Yada fucking yada....

And no player in the history of UofM Football has been shoved up the backside of constipated "faints" (= fans that really ain't fans) as much as Morris has.

For him to STAY, after all the vitrol, plus being the poster child for "inept concussion protocol management" which symbolized the lowest point of the program, not to even mention that Kalas still has a starting job.....well lets just give the kid a break; especially considering he hasn't said one bad thing about anybody involved with UofM football not even the idiot "faints" like Dawkins.

OOOOO I love to pile on

I've mentioned on here before that there are some on this board who make me feel like I'm on RCMB. We have our own proof that some of our fans are as douchy as theirs. There are opinions and then there's a special kind of stupid.

Kid has a great deal of talent. I hope that Harbaugh has been able to develop those skills and put him in a position to contribute on the field. I wish him the best on and off the field.

fact.

Harbaugh chose to red shirt Morris in 2015. Let's all think about that for a very few seconds. Yes Harbaugh is a fair man, a great and gifted coach, and he gives his players a fair shake. But what he does not do is act in a fashion that does not serve the team's and the program's best interest. Period. We have ample evidence of this.

Shane, for all his athletic potential, is smart enough to recognize that in the most likely case he'll be better served by getting a degree at Michigan than playing time at some FCS program. How many college QBs make the pros? Not many. Still he's a competitor and wants to play football. But he wants to play football for Michigan. The fact that Harbaugh red shirted Shane indicates beyond speculation that Harbaugh believes that there is a reasonable possibility that Shame can win the job, or at least be a better back up than his other choices. Otherwise he would not have red shirted Shane.

I have no idea how the 2016 QB competition will sort out, but clearly Harbaugh wants Shane to be part of that competition and that is more than good enough for me.

Shane, should you happen to read this, I wish you the very best luck and hope that when Harbaugh selects the best QB next year you end up starting. Your grit and determination are admirable, and reflect some of the best qualities associated with a Michigan graduate.

About Morris (and other lefty QBs), how much does the OL have to switch around to accommodate them? I was under the impression there would be shifting and I'd think that would be one reason we'd avoid a lefty as second string.

Showing a little support for the QB that may have to win 3 B1G games while O'Korn is nursing an "upper-body" injury.

I know that seems "crazy" but sometimes you may need more than one QB to win a CFP, even though that has never ever ever happened before.

Although Shane's been a disappointment, he paid the price in the "Perfect Storm" when he was most likely concussed in the horrific '14 Minny game.  It doomed both Hoke and Brandon and opened the door to Harbaugh.  And he lost IQ points in the process*.  So he'll always have a special place in my heart.

* I'm no brain surgeon, but I do have a friend who is an M alum in the field.  She expressed it this way to me when I wrecked badly on my motorcycle and had a much more serious concussion, but I assume the same principle applies.

If Shane sticks it out at Michigan and doesn't rise to #2 in that time I will be disappointed with this decision.  I say that knowing full well that he has until next fall and realistically until post spring ball to really decide if he should move on or not.

I feel an incoming coach has a right to field players that fit his scheme and reflect his plan.  First year is a mulligan.  After that the coach has got to make hard calls... there are ways to do that... here's the way.

Playing football in college is a gift.  Shane has that gift.  His arm is rope (thought not as good as Mallet's was... which isn't saying much as he had the best arm I've seen... but I digress.)  Shane did ok vs. Kansas State.  He was the #2 this year to start the season (per Harbaugh.)  The short of it is ... Shane can play somewhere D-1.

Shane wasn't recruited by Harbaugh.  If Shane wants to sit the bench (deeper than #2) to get a degree from Michigan...Reader71 can ream me a new one - but as a Michigan fan - as a Shane Morris fan - that would be a serious loss for college football.  There just aren't enough arms in the game to stuff Shane on scout duty as an upper classman.

After watching Baylor ... dang..do we need QBs at all?

Harbaugh needs to help everyone reach their potential and honestly that may not be at Michigan.  Harbaugh can help those players who want to play do so elsewhere if need be.  As a fan of the game and a Wolverine - I want to see Malzone start.  I want Speight to start.  I wanted Mignery to start in 2002.

The value of an undergraduate degree from Michigan does not rise above a starting season in D-1 somewhere else.   The doors to grad school are open to all.  Once a wolverine ... always a wolverine.

I wish Shane the best.  Go Blue!

None of Hoke's players are in danger of losing out on a college education.  There are plenty of schools willing to give them that as well as a legitimate chance to play if Harbaugh can't do that.  Harbaugh didn't sign these guys.  They need to meet his expectations.

This isn't about Shane either if Harbaugh told Shane that he was welcome to stay on and compete.  It's about the other guys as well (all of whom, including Shane, he hasn't done end of season interviews with yet.)

If on the other hand Harbaugh knows Shane will never be the #2 I sure hope he has told him that because Shane is good enough to start at other schools.  Shane is openly stating he is here to play.

Suppose Shane transferred to Northwestern.  Would that change your take?  I think it would.  I'm not underselling a Michigan degree but an undergraduate degree from most all other D-1 schools plus a starting QB job on the football team is equal to or better than being buried on the Michigan bench.

These are athletes not lottery winners.  They deserve the right to compete.  Given the talent if Shane doesn't make #2 before graduating - there aren't 127 other guys in this country better than him at QB to make that OK in my mind at least.

Harbaugh needs to talk turkey with these guys.  They deserve to know where they stand. The music is going to stop and they need to know their chairs.

A Michigan degree is very valuable. Even if he is 3rd or 4th on the depth charts he will probably stay and get his degree. It will be tough but I think he has an outside shot of beating the starter or at least the backup next season.
