+Relatively low cost of living.  Housing in and around Syracuse is affordable.

+Great schools.  Many of the Syracuse City School District schools are questionable but in the suburbs there are many good districts.

+Proximity to Syracuse University.  Kind of an uninspired campus area but we have football and basketball season tickets.  The football is usually pretty bad but you do see an occasional upset.

+Winter sports.  If you like them, this is a great place to live.  It’s also beautiful during the few weeks we experience spring, summer and fall.

+It’s only 7ish hours to Ann Arbor, which means we get back there for at least a couple football and basketball games each year.

CONS

+It snows all the freaking time. We got snow on April 29 this year.  April 29.  Winter lasts 48 weeks*.  (*That is an estimate.)

+SU is very bad at football.

+My mother-in-law lives 6 minutes away.

+The few restaurants we have close at 9:00 during the week.

Hmmm.  Your username totally had me fooled.

06/03/2018 - 7:04pm I read the article. Doesn’t

I read the article. Doesn’t really have new information and seems like Quinn is just looking for an angle to keep the story alive right now while we wait for an outcome. Doesn’t mean Beilein isn’t considering the job but this article doesn’t present any compelling insider knowledge.

05/10/2018 - 11:28am I actually agree with this.

I actually agree with this.  Not for me - I think it's creepy for adults to try to mingle with the players - BUT as a parent of two young kids who live and die for the team, it would be nice to have a way for them to interact with the players.  My kids belong to the Kids Club and last year we were able to go down on the field after the spring game.  I would say about 25 players stayed out to meet with the kids and pose for pictures.  It was awesome and I wish they would find more ways for that kind of thing to happen.  We've waited around at the stadium after games but it's a mess and the autograph hounds push the kids out of the way when players come out.

This isn't something I'm writing to Warde about but since the topic was raised, I will agree with the OP.

Great news! Hopefully you will be able to sleep tonight with the surgery behind her. I am sure this has been agonizing. We’ll keep your family in our prayers.

Driving in from Syracuse with the family. Can’t wait!!

04/05/2018 - 12:00am I think the fact Warde

I think the fact Warde mentioned the assistant coaches is the most important. They need the raises and contract extensions to keep them here when other programs come calling. I’m glad he’s focused on that, too.

Almost every woman who spoke made a point of saying they were no longer victims but instead survivors. It’s a sign of strength and unity.

They are amazing women.

The MSU trustees have just issued a new statement of support for her given the additional calls to resign. I hope they all burn.

This team has been on the cusp of breaking through for a while. Great to see OSU defeated...at home no less!

01/05/2018 - 11:05am Part of me thinks this is

Part of me thinks this is cool and spontaneious but it also reminds me of Jeff Brohm inexplicably throwing a chair in his pregame speech before they played us.

This is how I used to picture Harbaugh acting with the team when the cameras weren't around but after this season he just seems too mellow to do something like this.

01/05/2018 - 11:00am It is shocking to me how

It is shocking to me how little attention this horrific story is getting nationally.  And it's allowing MSU to continue to stonewall locally and try to pretend everything is okay.

Why? (I don’t know anything about him other than he’s been at Arkansas and MSU).

01/01/2018 - 9:54pm I understand he isn’t going

I understand he isn’t going to say anything groundbreaking but where was the fire? I wanted to see him pissed off, fired up, maybe vowing to make the changes necessary to win, not meek and blah.

01/01/2018 - 7:44pm Humiliating.

Humiliating.

Wait-you got that from my post? That’s pretty impressed be.

01/01/2018 - 5:54pm Serious question- who are the

Serious question- who are the great OCs we could go after (that would also consider leaving their current team)?

01/01/2018 - 5:41pm Definitely good to see Nordin

Definitely good to see Nordin get his groove back. Punting? Oof.

01/01/2018 - 5:16pm Me? Nope. I wanted to hear

Me? Nope. I wanted to hear other fans’ thoughts on how we can get better - exactly what I said in my post. My way of getting past a loss is to think about what needs to improve. I prefer that to just saying nasty things, but I see that not everyone feels that way.

01/01/2018 - 5:01pm Woah- I seriously don’t.

Woah- I seriously don’t. That’s why I came to the boards. And I legitimately don’t understand threads like this.

Esterhaus, If being a jerk to me makes you feel better about the game, go ahead.

01/01/2018 - 4:53pm Serious question. If you

Serious question. If you fire Harbaugh, who do you get instead? I don’t agree with firing him (Drevno is another story) but I’m honestly wondering who people think would be a better replacement.

01/01/2018 - 4:47pm Agree!

Agree!

01/01/2018 - 4:33pm I think Harbaugh said he was

I think Harbaugh said he was injured during bowl prep.

01/01/2018 - 4:33pm Can someone with knowledge of

Can someone with knowledge of Drevno’s history tell me if he’s always been this predictable and unimaginative? Was he ever innovative? (Genuine question- wondering if he has ever been different or better.)

01/01/2018 - 4:29pm Jesus - now some of you are

Jesus - now some of you are attacking me? I want to win and I’m pissed off too but I don’t understand threads like this, that are basically ‘we’re so sad, we want to feel worse’ instead of actually talking about how you get better. Is it a total clean out of our offensive staff? Is it just Drevno? Is it Harbaugh taking over play calling? And is Patterson really a potential answer? Or are we mired with our current line personnel?

01/01/2018 - 4:13pm I came to the boards to read

I came to the boards to read intelligent thoughts about the football game and how we can actually improve and found this. I just don’t understand some Michigan fans.

Nintendo. We got ColecoVision (which was awesome) and later Sega, but all my friends had Nintendo.

11/26/2017 - 10:17pm Great kid

His mom tweeted to someone that she appreciated Harbaugh respecting/supporting his decision even though he wanted him to stay. So I don’t think Harbaugh showed him to door, although he likely wouldn’t commit to having him start. My gut feeling is that Wilton wanted more of a chance/guarantee to be a starter. Can’t blame him.

Wait...what?!

10/22/2017 - 2:02pm The mods keep this place from

The mods keep this place from going down in pitchfork and (tiki) torch flames. They do it for free and it's a huge time commitment. So I have nothing but love for them. Plus, this site is owned and operated by someone who can run it any way he pleases. It's free and the content is outstanding. And free. I guess it's a testament to the staff that everyone feels such a sense of ownership and investment here they also feel like they should have a say in how it is run. That's a good thing, right?

10/22/2017 - 1:28am Did you really take the time

Did you really take the time to make the same comment in almost every thread on the board tonight? Yikes. That's quite some commitment to a take.

Sparty trolls are pathetic. Nothing better to do than comment here?

09/27/2017 - 9:59am There aren't too many people

There aren't too many people I actually spend time hoping will fail in life - Rick Pitino is definitely one of them.  Louisville is a trash school that deserves everything it has coming to it.

09/27/2017 - 9:52am In our house, I'm the crazy

In our house, I'm the crazy obsessed one so this weekend actually gives my husband a break from my Michigan football insanity.  This Saturday happens to be Yom Kippur, so I will be in temple and fasting - my own personal version of improvement week.

08/06/2017 - 12:15am MSU might be a night game and

MSU might be a night game and the atmosphere will be really chaotic- I would avoid that one entirely.

I've taken both my kids to games at various young ages. If I could do it over I would have skipped when they were between 1-3. But...if you are going to do it with a one year old, here is my advice:

-Don't expect to see the whole game. You will probably have to leave to find shade, cool off or get away from the noise at various intervals. Know that in advance. Scout out restrooms, shady areas, concessions with water before you get settled.

-Sunscreen and a hat are a must for Sept games.

-Be okay with leaving early. I hate leaving games before the final second ticks away but with a little one you may have to.

-No diaper bags but I think you can bring diapers and baby things in a smaller clear bag. Check online.

-Sit higher up/in the end zones. As you go lower folks tend to cram in more. You will want extra space.

-If your little one is small enough, use a soft wearable carrier. My son slept on me for the second half of the Iowa game a few years ago. I had him in a wrap style carrier. He faced out for the first half and then I turned him toward me and he fell asleep.

-Consider ear protection of some kind for them. There are little headphones you can get. It gets really loud!

Good luck!

Yes- last week in Syracuse. It's awesome!

06/27/2017 - 9:56pm Am I the only one who noticed...

With all the money the Athletic Department has, they couldn't display them on matching hangers?!

Name checks out.

05/17/2017 - 3:40pm It's called KaBOOM!

It's called KaBOOM! (kaboom.org).  The organization is based in DC but we work nationwide.  I love it.  I've been here a long time and I don't see myself going anywhere else anytime soon.

05/17/2017 - 3:31pm Nice!

As luck would have it, we actually have $15,000 grants available right now for qualifying community projects.   Visit kaboom.org/grants/build_it_yourself.   It says the deadline has passed for round 2 but you can still apply for consideration.  If you have specific questions, you can email [email protected].  You can say Sarah referred you.  Hopefully it's a fit!

05/17/2017 - 12:57pm UM Poli Sci and Classic Civ major here...

I work for a nonprofit that helps kids play by working with community groups and cities to build playgrounds and other creative play areas.  Our 200 person, all volunteer playground builds are the most visible thing we do.  We start in the morning with an empty lot and by 2:30 the site is completely transformed.  We've had a lot of sports teams and athletes, including many former Michigan players, volunteer on our projects.  We also partner with the NBA to build a playground tied to the All Star game.  I manage the team who works with our funding partners.  It's definitely not what I envisioned for my life back in college but I absolutely love my job.

05/14/2017 - 3:21pm Got a new Michigan blanket

Got a new Michigan blanket and a day to myself. Can't beat that. The best mother's days are spent without my kids.

05/09/2017 - 10:29pm 2001 VW Beetle

Mine was navy blue. It was a very cute car that actually handled really well with one major problem. When you drive one, everyone assumes you are super friendly and they always try to talk to you. No matter what. I was very happy when my lease ended.

05/03/2017 - 11:27pm Yup.

Hi!

05/01/2017 - 10:52pm I'm in favor of it in theory

I'm in favor of it in theory but it creates a lot of challenges for roster management due to the timing of signing day and the draft.
