"Special investigations by motivated politicians are terrible things, as they often turn up a wide range of wrongdoings both related and not to the original purpose of the investgation.

That's an odd first paragraph. He writes, "...according to Tim Skubick." Yeah, he is the author of the article. Skubick name-dropped himself according to ST3.

Also in the title. He seems to enjoy his own company. I bet he refers to himself in third person while doing daily tasks as well. "Tim Skubick, waiting patiently for the microwave to finish.... And Tim successfully opens the door with 1 second left so he doesn't have to hear the buzzer."

True. With the gubernatorial election right around the corner and a likely opponent that botched this case on the local level, it’s absolutely perfect timing for Schuette. I mean, what are the chances. The timing is so beneficial to his campaign, what a wild coincidence the scales of justice finally, at this moment, tipped in a way that compelled him to take action at this very moment.

This account is from the MSU police chief, just for the record.  Based on the rest of their behavior in this case, not the best source.  Whitmer says MSU police never actually gave Ingham County prosecutors the police reports they could use to charge.  Whitmer/the police chief/Schuette all say there was a jurisdictional thing with crimes being committed in both Ingham County and Eaton County so it made the most sense for things to go to the state rather than Ingham itself.

Granted it's been proven time and time again the NCAA is essentially a toothless organization when investigating institutions bent on blocking the investigation. But in this instance, the government can certainly get info that folks might not otherwise volunteer to the NCAA. It's entirely possible that the AG is about to do the NCAA's work for them in ways they could never do. Heck, their investigation may yield info that forces the NCAA to get off its butt and do something.

I'm happy the NCAA is not involved. this is much more serious than sanctions against sports teams. legal action is required and legal agencies need to be involved. Further, the only thing proven is that nassar is guilty. so what should NCAA do? do they end the gymnastics team? The gymnastics team (and others) were victims here, why punish them further? You can't put victims in a lose lose scenario where they stay quiet or damage their team and themselves. Coaches and staff will be fired if anyone can prove they knew. they'll also be arrested, like PSU. NCAA should stay far away from this for now.

...waiting for PSU fans to chime in that the NCAA shouldn't take action to sanction a university athletic department for a criminal conspiracy to cover up child abuse and rape committed on university athletic campus by university athletic personnel because it's not, technically, a violation of any NCAA rules.

don't take pride in this situation. Hollis isn't really even involved and the football team has no role. this is an awful situation and our football angst should never spill over into some form of excitement about any of this. I can't believe I had to write any of that.

I assume you are responding to me and my comment about Hollis (but not really sure). it Hollis knew anything and didn't report or attempted to cover up anything, he needs to be fired immediately. You still cannot take pride in that situation. I want everyone who aided or enabled nassar in anyway to be fired, but I'm not hoping that most of MSU was involved. Imagine your child was beat up by a kid at school. the kid admits and gets suspended. do you also hope that the teacher knew your kid was going to get beat up and let it happen? And the principal too? do you feel better or worse knowing so many people were involved?

Who was allowed to retire without investigation should be a major focus of the AG’s efforts. The massive sweeping it all under the rug and hoping no one notices is criminal.

Everyone Murders

Klages knew.  MSU assistant coaches and trainers knew.  Bill Strampel (Dean of MSU Osteopathic Medical College) knew.

And Lou Anna Simon responded with a statement that there's really no way to know if a predator is in your midst.  That's only true if your institution ignores direct complaints about the grotesque sexual abuse of children and young adults.  She's responded to all of this in a tone-deaf fashion at best, or is lying about her knowledge at worst.  In either event, she's no longer fit to lead a university - if she ever was.

They need to clean house with LAS for starters.  Joel Ferguson also needs to go (may have to wait for the electorate to take care of that waste disposal task).  And anyone else either with direct knowledge of Nassar's crimes or involved in the cover-up needs to go.  Including anyone at the MSU Police, the ELPD, and the Ingham County Prosecutor's Office.  And all in a public fashion, with due attention to potential crimes of their own for covering up.

Many of MSU's sports fans are unbearable (it turns out some of ours are too - shhhhh!), but this is important for the well-being of MSU's student body and the reputations of those in the administration, faculty, and staff who don't deserve to be tainted with these atrocities.

The thing is, unless MSU settles all of the outstanding legal actions (of which there are many and with varied litigants, it seems) this information will eventually come out. Running from it now maybe buys them some time but probably enhances their exposure.

It's really a horrific and sad situation. If you were a parent in this situation the MSU resoponse on Klages retiring and LAS minimization statements would be just the worst. Awful.

Well the thing we HAVE TO remember is that Nassar attended UM, because where he was educated decades ago is somehow relevant to his recent crimes and the institution that may have covered them up, because reasons. And any failure by any outlet, to include prosecutors, to mention this constantly is proof of complicity with the BLUE WALL media.

It is shocking to me how little attention this horrific story is getting nationally.  And it's allowing MSU to continue to stonewall locally and try to pretend everything is okay.
