I agree and disagree about the reliability of star rankings for offensive lineman. While it's true that most high school seniors need several years of weight training and weight gain to be division one game ready, the genuine 5 star line recruits are often ready to go as freshman or sophomores. Here, for example, is Alex Leatherwood as a high school senior. He needs neither roids nor weight gain, in my amateur opinion.

He may also have felt pressure to make an expert pronouncement on a subject that he was only vaguely familiar with. In other words, he may not have know what he was talking about, which seems fairly likely in this case.

The Stockwell cafeteria was the first place I ever saw two grown women kiss each other.
I don't believe the story about the roids. That's too overt. Maybe the mystery substance was some sort of roid-like protein paste?
BTW, lack of o-line cohesion this time of year is common. Have any of you seen the left tackle for Florida State, for example? He makes Runyan Jr. look like Jake Long.

He did not look happy on the sideline of the TCU game after he got hurt -- like he was worried it might be something that would take a while to get over.
Speaking of Ohio State, I fucking hate them, but I hate Sparty more and here's one example why:
I flew in for the game Saturday and on the highway saw a car that belonged to a Michigan State fan. The custom license plate on the car said "UMSUX." I told my son this typifies a certain type of Sparty, whose love for his own team is inseparable from his hatred of Michigan. It is simply impossible to articulate clearly all the reasons why this is so annoying -- but I bet most of the people who are on this site understand. It makes me want to crush them.
|09/17/2018 - 1:10pm||He feels lucky to still have…||
He feels lucky to still have a job, but his conscience is troubling him as he gets ready to move forward. The problem is that Meyer's conscience is simply the collective opinion of the world, rather than something internal to himself. So in order to salve his conscience, he must do all he can to recuperate himself in the public eye, and we see evidence of it here.
This is the curse of the semi-moral personality. They can't by fully upstanding and they can't fully commit to being sinister, and the waffling that goes on in the meanwhile seems far worse than either extreme.
|09/16/2018 - 10:47am||Agreed esp with regard to…||
Agreed esp with regard to the refs. There was seemingly laundry on the field after every single pass play. If you saw the OSU game later that night the refs were totally letting them play. OSUs d backs were all over TCUs receivers and they almost never drew a flag. If we had those refs we would be singing a different tune today about our defense.
On a different note, That little receiver of theirs - Roche or Broche - is incredible, I heard his name on just about every play it seemed, and that big qb they brought in was also very good but none of it would have been possible for them if the refs weren’t so Ticky tacky.
The SMU fans at the game were nice from what I could tell. They were psyched that their team gave Michigan’s defense a challenge.
|09/16/2018 - 9:30am||The other state of this…||
The other state of this place is posters who don’t remember what it was like to watch Rich Rodriguez and his coaching posse schlep their way to losses against the likes of Toledo, and narrow wins against the Massachusetts and Connecticuts of the football world, with sieve-like defenses that regularly gave up 40 points or more. Even the Carr years were frustrating in their own way — almost cultishly insular and stubbornly antiquated in philosophy. This “we suck” and “this is unacceptable” nonsense is pathetic. There is optimism and competence and a level of talent in this program that hasn’t been there in over a decade. Appreciate it and quit this ridiculous whining. I took my son yesterday to his first game at Michigan Stadium and you would have thought we were losing the game based on the stupid uninformed shot people around us were saying.

We didn’t struggle. I was at the game and I thought we looked totally in control, in spite of the horrific officiating. I am so fucking sick of you pussy naysayers. Go follow another team. You suck.

From the stands the defense looked very good. It just looked like SMU made some very good plays and had good play calls when they needed them. Those pi penalties were horrible. Several of them were called on obviously imcatchable balls. That one receiver of theirs was an absolute stud. This felt like a good game from Michigan believe it or not.

Based on my reading this could only mean that he is leaning towards Michigan. What would a visit to Michigan help to solidify if not that it's the right fit for him? If he were leaning to Bama the only reason he would visit Michigan would be to remind him that it isn't as good as Bama, which he sort of already knew but wanted to be sure. That's strange logic.

Mineral King is most likely Ben Mason. A mason works in stone, which is made from minerals, which I know based on knowledge I gleaned from a 1 credit hour class that I took to fill a requirement my senior year at Michigan. I remember almost nothing from the class, and rarely attended it.

Do you mean would the state of the Michigan football program be any different? What is the point of even considering this question? The man who succeeded Moeller won a national championship and represented Michigan in a way that made me proud to be an alumnus.
These threads, just one after the other after the other, threads that seem to be born of the minds of grammar school children, are ruining this blog. I beg of you people, consider whether or not your posts will be of genuine, meaningful, substantive interest to fans of Michigan athletics. If you have even a hint or an inkling that your topic might be better off limited to musings into your pillow, then DON"T MAKE A NEW POST!!!

I expected him to be an all conference level player as well. Maybe he still have issues with his core from a particularly tricky appendectomy? I would actually be relieved to hear something like this, because if he's just not playing well enough to see the bulk of the snaps that would be weird.
Also, Mone is not a good player. He is a liability. Maybe he's a "tree," as Mattison says, but he's not a tree who makes plays.

Something about this thread seems wrong. Why bring it up with such fanfare? My preference would be to leave comments in the night games thread and say no more about it. It seems lame to act all celebratory about a Sparty win over a lesser opponent.
