...the kid just realizes he's never gonna play in the NFL and understands how much weight a degree from UM carries in the "real" world.  Good on him.

Not good on him when he's taking up an athletic scholarship and there are other more deserving players out there who won't get that scholarship if he's still on the roster as a scholarship athlete next year.

...you wanna essentially boot kids who haven't panned out as planned despite them doing nothing wrong?

Shouldn't you really be getting ready for tomorrow's game against Sparty instead of commenting on blogs, Coach Saban?

Yes, and this happens all the time. Players transfer, are kindly shown the door, or don't have their scholarships renewed when they don't pan out. No one is forcing them to leave school. It just means they won't be on athletic scholarship.

Except that, as you know, the Big Ten made it policy that scholarships would be four-year commitments and even that those who left "in good faith" could come back and complete their degree on scholarship, although it is more the four-year thing to which you may object. I wonder how you would get around such a commitment without seeming like, dare I say, a cold-hearted asshole, but I could be wrong and there might be a way.

He is going to sit anyway unless he goes to a FCS school.  This way he gets his M degree and a chance - however slim some may think it is - to play QB for Michigan.

I am concerned a bit on the Scholarship #s though, as I figured at least 1 QB would need to go to make room for the 27 kids incoming (plus grayshirts).  My gues would have been Shane.  I suppose Speight and Malzone are possible but don't see a great reason for either to leave....so where are the tranfers coming from?

I doubt Shane will be here, or at least won't be on scholarship. There are limited scholarships available. You can't be using one up on an overrated recruit at the most important position.

I'm honestly doubting we take a transfer QB at this point. I know people (or at least WD) want Taysom Hill, but for how injury prone he is, I'd rather just have a consistent starter for the next two years - may that be O'Korn or Morris or hell Peters wins it as a freshman.

While I understand that Shane has not met hype/expectations, I'm really surprised by the assload of unwarranted negativity.   The buzz is that O'Korn will get the nod, but what the hell has everyone else seen to demonstrate that he would not be a better 2 than Malzone or even Peters?

With Morgan and Bolden leaving, 5 QBs plus a transfer equals the same amount of returning, non-freshman LBs next year. Fun! /s Edit: Wait. We already have 6 QBs if Gentry doesn't go TE. O'Korn Speight Morris Malzone Peters +/- Gentry Dat's a lot of QBs, folks

I can't really remember the last time we had three guys with college game experience coming back to compete for the starting QB spot. This should bring out the best in O'Korn, Speight, Malzone, and Peters. I feel good about Quarterback next year.
