He has both - a banged up left thumb and a minor ankle sprain.  How much does this impact his effectiveness next Saturday ?  Probably not a lot, but I don't see Day risking it further and having Fields carry the ball 21 times like vs. PSU.  They are going to protect Fields for the post-season.  For that reason and the weather, look for Dobbins to carry the load on offense.

Maybe? Maybe not. Who says Fields will wear a cast? It's also unclear when he broke it. If it's even broken. Fields first started grabbing at his left hand after the end-zone fumble, which occurred with 50 minutes still left in the PSU game. He played the rest of the game, including the whole second half in cold rain, with no issue. No tape. No cast. No glove. No dropped snaps.

Maybe he has to tape it up and wear a glove on his off-hand. Ok.

Like I said above, if Fields has a high-ankle sprain from the last hit he took, that would be the disaster.

Oh, I forgot Buckeyes, he left due to a racist slur occurring, right?

Of course.

Keep on keeping on Buckeye slappies; posting on a Michigan board. Run your narrative.

Perhaps it was because he was dissatisfied with his role...

"Though Fields showed a few flashes of his talent, they came mostly in blowout games and it wasn’t clear that he had a path to more playing time next season with Fromm returning for his junior season in 2019."

Seriously? Of all the body parts a starting QB could injure, his non-throwing hand has to be first on the list, right?

For the record, Damon Arnette (one of OSU's starting corners) has played all year with a giant cast on his right wrist/hand. Idk what is hurt, his hand, wrist, or thumb, but he's played all season with an immobilized hand. Granted, he's not a QB, but he's played. 'Zeke Elliott played half of 2014 with an immobilized left wrist/thumb, to the point that he stopped carrying the ball with his left hand the entirety of the post-season.

Players do it all the time. I would love for Fields to be 100% healthy. If you're telling me he has to be injured, the thing I'd live with the most is his non-throwing hand. Oh well.

To your Devin Gardner point, I'm sure you see the gigantic difference between a broken foot and a broken thumb, right?

I dunno man, I get your point about which body part you'd rather have hurt versus other body parts but for a QB  both hands are very much needed, especially one who runs the ball in a semi-consistent manner.  The type of injury and what's needed for protection will obviously play a part in how severe this hampers him/the offense.

This is too much..... directly from their shitty blog:

"If this is so, it’ll hurt his receiving the snap and in ball exchanges. It’ll feel sore in the cold, and at some point, he’ll make it worse during a running play or sack. But he’ll be able to play through it. No doubt, xichigan players will be aggressive as all hell in yanking at it in the tackle scrums."

Even if true it probably doesn't matter and he'll play.  But let me make myself perfectly clear: I really am not even a tiny bit interested in beating "full strength" OSU.  The record books don't care.  The only people who would care are OSU fans, and I don't care what they think about that, nor what salve they would use to content themselves in the event they lose.

He clearly injured it on his dive for the TD - ESPN replayed it.  A PSU defender's helmet hit the thumb very hard with velocity.  Bothered him the rest day and definitely contributed to the 3 fumbles as his left hand is his carry hand.  When he got sacked and ankle rolled on, it was because he had dropped the ball from his left hand and was attempting the recovery awkwardly when he got hit from behind.  Going to have a sore ankle as well.

He is definitely banged up, but not enough to sit out this game.  However, OSU is going to be leaning on Dobbins and the pass game.  Doubt Fields carries 21 times like he did vs. PSU.

Honestly, even if this is true, you know that OSU has a competent backup. They won the fucking national championship with a 3rd string QB. When JT Barrett came out of the game in '17, Haskins came in and lit us up.

It sucks.

They don't have a competent backup.  Their backup would struggle to start for Rutgers.  Previous years literally have zero bearing on 2019, and in 2019, anybody who's paid attention understands OSU does not have a typical QB situation.  Having said that, you will not be so fortunate, Fields will be out there, rest assured.

Dude, nothing bad ever happens to OSU. Didn't you get the memo? Even if he's out for the game, they'll simply run the single wing with Dobbins taking snaps, and pile up 400 yards.

Whatever. I’m sure Don Brown and his staff are prepping like Fields is going to play bc he probably will. The only way I can see him sitting is if the weather is shitty as forecasted and Day determines the risks of turnovers out weighs the benefit of having him as a runner.  Either way, they will be very content to run the ball. The question is, will the front 7 be able to re-create the mesh-point 1 yd behind the LOS enough to make a difference?

Please let it be true

Looked around a little and nothing about it on Eleven Warriors or really anything on twitter. I think if there was even a hint of a rumor about fields having a broken thumb OSU fans would be discussing it. Seeming like a bogus rumor

We are going to blow them out.  It's long overdue and they feel invincible right now. Too many of these games have been coin flips the past 20 years, and all have inconceivably gone their way.

This year we get up early, force them into situations they haven't faced all year, and then run it up.

Oklahoma State will beat Oklahoma who will beat Baylor in the Big 12 championship

Oregon will beat Utah in the Pac 10 championship

OSU will beat Wisconsin in the B1G championship

LSU will beat UGA in the SEC championship

I don't see Auburn beating Alabama unfortunately, so they get the 4th spot in the playoff.  If somehow Auburn pulls off the upset, it could get crazy for us.
