RUMOR: Fields has a broken thumb and hasn't practiced this week
Again, this is a RUMOR. However, Fields did hurt his hand/wrist during the game, and could be seen grimacing several times throughout the day. Could be a massive development.

ok bud, you clearly know everything
November 26th, 2019 at 3:28 PM ^
lol as do you my man
November 26th, 2019 at 4:14 PM ^
He has both - a banged up left thumb and a minor ankle sprain. How much does this impact his effectiveness next Saturday ? Probably not a lot, but I don't see Day risking it further and having Fields carry the ball 21 times like vs. PSU. They are going to protect Fields for the post-season. For that reason and the weather, look for Dobbins to carry the load on offense.
November 26th, 2019 at 4:27 PM ^
this makes the most sense. i'm sure he will play but be hampered.
November 26th, 2019 at 4:28 PM ^
I don't know. I think the tarp is off starting last week. I mean, Dobbins carried it 36 times against PSU, and they still found room for those 21 carries for Fields.
November 26th, 2019 at 3:02 PM ^
As mentioned above, and it's a mistake I made, if he's wearing a cast good luck catching the ball out of the shotgun formation. Wet weather would be a disaster. A cast would be a serious hindrance even if it was his non-throwing hand.
November 26th, 2019 at 3:25 PM ^
Maybe? Maybe not. Who says Fields will wear a cast? It's also unclear when he broke it. If it's even broken. Fields first started grabbing at his left hand after the end-zone fumble, which occurred with 50 minutes still left in the PSU game. He played the rest of the game, including the whole second half in cold rain, with no issue. No tape. No cast. No glove. No dropped snaps.
Maybe he has to tape it up and wear a glove on his off-hand. Ok.
Like I said above, if Fields has a high-ankle sprain from the last hit he took, that would be the disaster.

devin gardner played the 4Q with a broken foot in 2013. he was in a boot after that and never took a snap again that year; missed the bowl game. i don't know how you play with an immobilized thumb; even on the off hand.
November 26th, 2019 at 4:01 PM ^
Devin Gardner is a legit badass and legend for that kind of toughness.
Justin Fields feelings got hurt after Jake Fromm was just better.
Two different characters.
November 26th, 2019 at 4:24 PM ^
You think Jake Fromm is better than Justin Fields?
November 26th, 2019 at 7:47 PM ^
Fields is a product of the system at osu, Fromm beat him out at Georgia. Who knows, fields could have very well developed into a great player at uga anyway
November 26th, 2019 at 5:16 PM ^
Because you know so much about Fields and his character. And your Fromm take is laughable
November 26th, 2019 at 6:50 PM ^
Oh, I forgot Buckeyes, he left due to a racist slur occurring, right?
Of course.
Keep on keeping on Buckeye slappies; posting on a Michigan board. Run your narrative.
Perhaps it was because he was dissatisfied with his role...
"Though Fields showed a few flashes of his talent, they came mostly in blowout games and it wasn’t clear that he had a path to more playing time next season with Fromm returning for his junior season in 2019."

Solid response; probably should be. 〽️

Seriously? Of all the body parts a starting QB could injure, his non-throwing hand has to be first on the list, right?
For the record, Damon Arnette (one of OSU's starting corners) has played all year with a giant cast on his right wrist/hand. Idk what is hurt, his hand, wrist, or thumb, but he's played all season with an immobilized hand. Granted, he's not a QB, but he's played. 'Zeke Elliott played half of 2014 with an immobilized left wrist/thumb, to the point that he stopped carrying the ball with his left hand the entirety of the post-season.
Players do it all the time. I would love for Fields to be 100% healthy. If you're telling me he has to be injured, the thing I'd live with the most is his non-throwing hand. Oh well.
To your Devin Gardner point, I'm sure you see the gigantic difference between a broken foot and a broken thumb, right?
November 26th, 2019 at 4:17 PM ^
comparing other positions to QB is nonsense.
November 26th, 2019 at 4:30 PM ^
I dunno man, I get your point about which body part you'd rather have hurt versus other body parts but for a QB both hands are very much needed, especially one who runs the ball in a semi-consistent manner. The type of injury and what's needed for protection will obviously play a part in how severe this hampers him/the offense.

This is too much..... directly from their shitty blog:
"If this is so, it’ll hurt his receiving the snap and in ball exchanges. It’ll feel sore in the cold, and at some point, he’ll make it worse during a running play or sack. But he’ll be able to play through it. No doubt, xichigan players will be aggressive as all hell in yanking at it in the tackle scrums."
PULL HIS THUMB! PULL HIS THUMB!

XICHIGAN ???
You cannot make up Buckeye slappy content.
November 26th, 2019 at 4:18 PM ^
Then he'll just let incapacitating farts.
November 26th, 2019 at 4:23 PM ^
ball exchanges? i thought their ball exchanges went away when the dr punched his own ticket.
i'll show myself out.
November 26th, 2019 at 2:51 PM ^
Not his throwing hand, ergo, not a massive development.
November 26th, 2019 at 2:53 PM ^
Even if true it probably doesn't matter and he'll play. But let me make myself perfectly clear: I really am not even a tiny bit interested in beating "full strength" OSU. The record books don't care. The only people who would care are OSU fans, and I don't care what they think about that, nor what salve they would use to content themselves in the event they lose.
November 26th, 2019 at 3:04 PM ^
Exactly. Nobody from OSU seems to call out the fact that in a majority of the last 15 games, Michigan's starting QB was either not playing or not at full health. It doesn't matter.
November 26th, 2019 at 2:58 PM ^
Does anyone believe this? He seemed fine during the game...
November 26th, 2019 at 3:08 PM ^
He did fumble three times in that game, so it is at least possible that he may have been suffering from an injury which contributed to the fumbles.
November 26th, 2019 at 3:38 PM ^
He clearly injured it on his dive for the TD - ESPN replayed it. A PSU defender's helmet hit the thumb very hard with velocity. Bothered him the rest day and definitely contributed to the 3 fumbles as his left hand is his carry hand. When he got sacked and ankle rolled on, it was because he had dropped the ball from his left hand and was attempting the recovery awkwardly when he got hit from behind. Going to have a sore ankle as well.
He is definitely banged up, but not enough to sit out this game. However, OSU is going to be leaning on Dobbins and the pass game. Doubt Fields carries 21 times like he did vs. PSU.
November 26th, 2019 at 3:03 PM ^
Honestly, even if this is true, you know that OSU has a competent backup. They won the fucking national championship with a 3rd string QB. When JT Barrett came out of the game in '17, Haskins came in and lit us up.
It sucks.
November 26th, 2019 at 3:20 PM ^
I really don't think they do, those guys are NFL draft picks, their backups this year are a guys who couldn't win the job at WVU and Kentucky. Most of the OSU posters on this board have straight up said they would be screwed this year at QB if Fields went down.
November 26th, 2019 at 3:27 PM ^
Isn't their back up playing A&M this weekend?
November 26th, 2019 at 5:09 PM ^
Their other one is riding the bench in Miami
November 26th, 2019 at 3:48 PM ^
They don't have a competent backup. Their backup would struggle to start for Rutgers. Previous years literally have zero bearing on 2019, and in 2019, anybody who's paid attention understands OSU does not have a typical QB situation. Having said that, you will not be so fortunate, Fields will be out there, rest assured.
November 26th, 2019 at 3:57 PM ^
i bet he pulls the 'ronnie lott' and cuts the damn thing off in order to play.
November 26th, 2019 at 4:35 PM ^
Playing an already banged up Fields means risking losing him for the BTG and playoffs. Is that really wise?
November 26th, 2019 at 3:05 PM ^
Sure thing. And maybe Chase Young will be re-suspended as well.
November 26th, 2019 at 3:12 PM ^
No way do I believe this.
It doesn't matter anyway, if OSU has shown me anything since Meyer got there it's that this system is plug and play with any QB.
November 26th, 2019 at 3:13 PM ^
They will just attach a bionic thumb or turn him into Darth Vader. Not getting my hopes up that he will miss the game.
November 26th, 2019 at 3:14 PM ^
Fantastic if true. Now finish him off.
November 26th, 2019 at 6:51 PM ^
Avatar checks out.
November 26th, 2019 at 3:19 PM ^
Dude, nothing bad ever happens to OSU. Didn't you get the memo? Even if he's out for the game, they'll simply run the single wing with Dobbins taking snaps, and pile up 400 yards.
/S/
November 26th, 2019 at 3:20 PM ^
Whatever. I’m sure Don Brown and his staff are prepping like Fields is going to play bc he probably will. The only way I can see him sitting is if the weather is shitty as forecasted and Day determines the risks of turnovers out weighs the benefit of having him as a runner. Either way, they will be very content to run the ball. The question is, will the front 7 be able to re-create the mesh-point 1 yd behind the LOS enough to make a difference?
November 26th, 2019 at 3:38 PM ^
Please let it be true
Looked around a little and nothing about it on Eleven Warriors or really anything on twitter. I think if there was even a hint of a rumor about fields having a broken thumb OSU fans would be discussing it. Seeming like a bogus rumor
November 26th, 2019 at 3:44 PM ^
We are going to blow them out. It's long overdue and they feel invincible right now. Too many of these games have been coin flips the past 20 years, and all have inconceivably gone their way.
This year we get up early, force them into situations they haven't faced all year, and then run it up.
Oklahoma State will beat Oklahoma who will beat Baylor in the Big 12 championship
Oregon will beat Utah in the Pac 10 championship
OSU will beat Wisconsin in the B1G championship
LSU will beat UGA in the SEC championship
I don't see Auburn beating Alabama unfortunately, so they get the 4th spot in the playoff. If somehow Auburn pulls off the upset, it could get crazy for us.
November 26th, 2019 at 6:09 PM ^
You can't see Auburn winning a home game against Alabama with a backup quarterback but you can see Michigan blowing out OSU?
I'll have some of what you're having
November 26th, 2019 at 3:47 PM ^
The guy is going to play. But please spare us, this board would completely melt down if they beat us with a back up
November 26th, 2019 at 3:47 PM ^
They didn’t throw much and Fields fumbled a couple times, very possible it’s true
