11/26/2017 - 8:58pm I suspect this off-season will be relatively quiet

After the spring there will be no surfacing of the sub until it appears in South Bend. Really Hope Winovich and Mone stick around. Winovich could potentially set himself up to be a top 10 pick.

11/26/2017 - 8:10pm Hard to say. But I have a tough time believing

That Harbaugh would let him walk this soon after the season without either:
1. A known Contingency plan in the form of a transfer who could potentially win the starting job
2. Being extremely confident in Peters and D Caf

I tend to suspect #1 but that is pure speculation.

11/26/2017 - 6:50pm Maybe I am in the minority here

But Speight announcing his transfer immediately after the regular season is surprising given he would be a returning starter. Unless he is privy to knowledge of an incoming transfer or grad transfer who will immediately compete for PT.

11/29/2016 - 8:23am +1

I guarantee that Harbaugh is going to have this team foaming at the mouth next year when they play that team.

11/29/2016 - 8:18am That dude is a STUD

his speed is legit! seeing him walk down DPJ in the open field was insane. I think the odds are more likely that M lands him. Having him and DPJ.....hoooooooo boy ! those 2 are potential day 1 contributors.

11/29/2016 - 7:58am Actually I thought Taco

was the most rampant DL member. He really came on this yr. especially the last 2 games.  I can see Hurst staying if he is not projected as a 1st round pick.

11/29/2016 - 7:43am a couple things:

1. I can see Hudson playing the SAM position in addition to getting safety reps. This allows the Defense to be more flexible without having to sub. I also see Furbush getting lots of reps there also.

2.  wouldnt shock me to see Jordan Glasgow get some serious looks at Safety in the spring. His audition on special teams was outsanding this yr.

3. Newsome's presence (or lack thereof) will have a dramatic impact on the OL. If he is not back, I see Cole moving back out to LT with Kugler being the center. then, we are left with an opening at LG - possibly big Mike Onwenu or Dawson.  The spring is going to be very important for those guys.

4. Obviously getting Jeremy Clark and Hurst back dramatically shifts things.

11/27/2016 - 2:03am holy shit didn't even notice that!

wow he is tackling Chris Wormley. wow. just...wow

11/27/2016 - 1:54am wow....

never thought , I would encounter somone who would Jim Harbaugh for granted as a football coach but, hey, there your are!

11/27/2016 - 1:48am He is absolutely right to criticize

The officiating in this game was an absolute clown show. Not suprising since somehow an Ohio HS ref who usually officiates BASKETBALL games was part of the crew.  I honestly have not seen an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty called all year. funny, i don't recall anyone getting worried about Harbaugh getting an unsportsmanlike conduct penalties during the various sidline blow-ups throughout the year.  now all of a sudden "it looks bad" .  horseshit.

11/27/2016 - 1:36am Yea. Ambry Thomas gets it

shoot , even My Mgowife who hates football saw the replay and SHE gets it.  Not deneying that M made costly mistakes, but I don't see how any sane person can sit there and say that the officiating was unbiased and that did not have a direct effect on the game's outcome.

The fact that the explantion for the unsportsmanlike conduct penalty was that it would be a technical foul in basketball, given by the ohio HS ref who normally officiates basketball games, tells you everything you need to know. How in the actual fuck does an ohio HS ref get to officiate in a game like this?! seriously

11/26/2016 - 5:52pm with all due respect

please remove your head from your ass.  The officials were egregiously inconsistent and the spot on 4th and 1 was a friggin joke! I wont reveiw the physics of the play as they have already been discussed.

11/26/2016 - 5:39pm Dude, he is sticking up for his players

this game was not officiated consistently AT ALL and that last spot was pure bullshit, they got fucking stoned and in reality they got a very generous spot on the previous play. FUCKING BULLSHIT. its like the equivalent of the Desmond -Eddie Brown '90 MSU game level of bullshit. its a shame, despite the mistakes, This team actually overcame them and in reality deserved to win. Its too bad they had to overcome corrupt officiating as well

BTW:Hurst, please, please come back next year!. AVENGE this attrocity !

11/26/2016 - 12:13pm wow dont know how the duplicate post happened

11/26/2016 - 12:05pm I predict.....

a ton of annoying commercial breaks.

11/26/2016 - 11:14am The fact that this has become a thing

that has actually caught on, is hilariously stupid.

11/26/2016 - 10:38am Man, these pod casts are like

antiemetics for my soul as I sit here in St. Louis (where nobody gives a shit about this game) suffering, dry-heaving, sweating, alone.  Awesome stuff Brian and Ace.  very much like the discussion about The Game, (feelings , matchups, history).   The recruiting section was a nice little distraction as well.  Honestly, not sure there is much I would change.  Brian has created the best blog in the world. There is no disputing this.

Regardless of whatever happens today. This has been a damn good season. Michigan is back in the thick of things - as it should be.  Its been a pretty darn fun ride so far.  God-willing and the creek-don't rise, I see more fun seasons for years to come. Go Blue!!!!! And God speed, Ace.

11/25/2016 - 10:53am umm pretty sure Maryland was after Illinois

and M hung 59 on them. so, really the last 2 weeks, Wiscy and MSU were the only games where M has not scored 40+ .  That said, would be happy if the Offense cracked 24-21 this week given the present QB situation.

11/25/2016 - 10:49am The keys to this game will be

1. Limiting the legs of JT Barrett - have to collapse the pocket w/out over-penetrating

2. Edge Defense opposite of Peppers - this is going to be the toughest challange

3. Staying ahead of the inside run-game counter-punches - ie folding the tackle inside, wham-blocks with TE's ect.

4. Don't even want to think about JTB being on throwing the ball.

#2 will be the most difficult task and that is saying something given how slippery JTB is when he drops back.  I am not sure that there is a great way to do this without getting the safeties heavily involved (think MSU last year).

In order to stop JT, Brown will have to come up with different ways to get pressure in his face quickly. Wheather that be through stunts and twists up-front,  blitzing from the back 7, ect. in order to force him to make decisions faster than he wants to.

Disguising coverages will also be difficult especially if they speed the tempo, which is what I am sure they will do at some point. There is basically 0 margin for error. The DL MUST dominate for 60 min. Everyone has to basically play the game of their lives. we all know this.

overall, it will take a hurculean effort to win this game in all 3 phases bc rest-assured osu will play its best game of the year.

11/21/2016 - 11:39pm I have never been a fan of Fowler as a play by play guy

Liked him better as the Game Day host. Whatev. Get ready for some biased commentary

11/21/2016 - 12:45pm I hate osu

Hate, hate, hate. That is all

11/21/2016 - 1:33am Thank you WD

for you are a Free man.

11/21/2016 - 1:27am ummm....

pretty sure that was a joke. and even if it wasn't we as a fan base have backed waaaaaaaay off that one for some time.

11/21/2016 - 1:23am I hope Harbaugh

treats urban and tosu like my namesake and the Scotts treated Longshanks' English Army at Sterling.

11/20/2016 - 2:48pm Agree as well:

If M can shorten the game by running the ball effectively, and getting the ball to the FB and TE's, that would dissrupt their offenses flow/rhythm. In order to do that, Harbaugh, Drevno and Fisch are going to have to use different motions/shifts and formations in order to screw with their alignment.  I think the lack of motion/shifts in yesterday's game, made it easier for IU to pressure JOK.  Not second guessing this staff for 1 second.  I am sure there was a good reason as to why,  they game-planned that way.  the good news is I think the OL is a better run-blocking unit than it was last yr and I don't think osu's front 7 (although still very good) is quite as good as it was last yr.

11/20/2016 - 2:25pm meh...

we thought this was the case last yr when Elliot was spouting off about the shitty play-calling after they lost to msu. Still,  that statement gives some insight to the degree of their self-entitilement though.  they absolutely deserve a beating. it couldn't happen to a better team/school/fan-base. Hopefully M can deliver on this.

11/20/2016 - 2:13pm even though M did a better job

defending the edge yesterday, I am still concerned about them getting on the perimeter, away from Peppers.   the last few weeks, opposing teams have tried to eliminate him from the equation by putting out a slot receiver to his side and running away from him. finding a way to get him back into the fight would help.

M's success on Defense will hinge on 2 things:

1. stopping the run (will need help from the corners and safeties to do this on the perimeter)

2. the front 4-collapsing the pocket while maintaining rush lanes.

11/20/2016 - 1:55pm here we go:

Donning turd necklaces

in a toilet shaped stadium

Casey Anthony = #1 Fan

11/20/2016 - 11:18am this is pretty much spot on

If De'veon is able to get to the 2nd level consistently he can wear defenses down.  But if he is forced to make cuts a yard deep into the backfield, he loses steam.  Next week's outcome is going to hinge on the OL's ability to get hats on hats.  more motioning/shifting, may help in this regard by causing their D to get misaligned.

11/20/2016 - 10:57am on cursory re watch...

It seemed like the OL and the backs stuggled with IU's pressures all game long.  JOK did not help himself by trying to extend plays by running backwards.  Those issues have to get corrected next week.

11/20/2016 - 10:36am ummm ...

I would not call 10/22 for 86 yds passing great numbers by any stretch. unless you are referring to his rushing stats : 105 yds on 24 carries.  Those include 2 sacks for prob around - 10- 15 yds. so, a decent day rushing I guess.

11/20/2016 - 1:17am side note on the msu/osu game:

if you watch the replay of the 2-point conversion attempt, O'connor could have easily jogged in had he just looked to the right.  the only thing between him and the endzone was a double-teamed osu DL.

11/19/2016 - 11:35pm I say let those d-bags talk

they probably thought osu was going to win going away at psu i'm sure. they also glossed over the fact that JT Barrett passed for 86 yds today! BIIIIIIGGGG TEEEENNN! whatever.  If M can run the ball next week they will have a chance.

11/19/2016 - 10:54pm +1 mind you MSU was w/out McDowell

and yet they only managed 17 points. I know it was windy but I honestly thought Lagow threw the ball as well or better than JT Barrett in worse conditions.  IU is actually a pretty decent team. they are a few players away from having a very good team.  While I put M's chances of winning at < 50% next week, I do not think osu has played all that great this yr so far. I am sure they will ratchet it up a few notches next week though.  But they are not unbeatable by any means.

11/19/2016 - 10:09pm Good things I saw from the offense:

1. M had some early success running power at IU early in the game and the screen to Issac was really well set up and it was actually a nice throw by JOK.

2. It was nice to see continued success with Power when M came back to it

3. great to see JOK's make a play with the scramble for 30 yds when M absolutely needed it

4. the last pass JOK demonstated good poise when he completed the hitch to Darboh. and Darboh did a great job of making a dude miss to get the 1st.

5. The receivers did a real nice job of blocking downfield

Bad things:

1. with the exception of the Darboh play and the scramble, once JOK got any hint of pressure he would bug-out and run backwards.  this just killed the passing game

2. There were some busts in blitz pickup - I know at least one was on Hill

3.  you can start to tell play-calling tendencies by personel - for example, if Chris Evans is in the game especially on 3rd down, its either a screen or a draw.  got to get away from tendancies next week.

11/19/2016 - 8:23pm If the OL can avoid busts next week

(big IF) I think we the tosu secondary is going to find out that it ain't fun trying to tackle #4 with a head full of steam.

11/19/2016 - 7:48pm IU played mistake free on offense today

I thought Lagow played well given the conditions. Holding them to a FG on their one sustained drive in the 3rd Q was huge

11/19/2016 - 7:42pm Have to believe

There is more that is being held back there. Would like to see Deveon, Evans and Issac or another Fullback in the backfield. Get him a lead blocker or 2 or 3 w/ a pulling guard or trap the DE or 3 tech and give or lead up inside the trap. Shoot there is a ton of possibilities there! I'm going to email Coach Harbaugh and Drevno. LOL

11/19/2016 - 7:32pm Pretty crazy M blocked 2 punts and only got

3! Points off those. Too bad the ball bounced straight up after Hudson blocked the second punt.

11/19/2016 - 7:19pm You may be correct. there is no doubt

We were 1-dimensional today. Not going to win like that next week. However, I was suprised by how well MSU held up against Osu's offense w/out McDowell.

11/19/2016 - 7:07pm This crew is worlds better than the O'neil crew

They may be worse than the sun-belt crew from the '05 Alamo bowl

11/19/2016 - 7:00pm Deveon Smith was a MANIMAL!

He ran w/ RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGEEEE!!!!!

11/19/2016 - 6:54pm Oh my God Huuuuuuuuuuge Win!!!'

Huge run by JOK! Then Deveon vs the fishing village!!!!! Amazing win w/no passing game. And the receivers blocked their asses off too! Man huge stops by the D. Huge win!!! Found a way. I am so glad I was wrong.

11/19/2016 - 5:42pm If we can't get off the goddamn field on 3rd and long

Then there is NO WAY we win this game

11/19/2016 - 5:38pm Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck!!!!!!!!!!

Y
