RUMOR: Fields has a broken thumb and hasn't practiced this week
Again, this is a RUMOR. However, Fields did hurt his hand/wrist during the game, and could be seen grimacing several times throughout the day. Could be a massive development.

Correct. In hindsight, the struggles we had vs the run against IU the week before when Glasgow went down should've been a sign of things to come vs Zeke that year
November 26th, 2019 at 2:28 PM ^
If there is a way for an Ohio State player to play with broken body parts, they will.
And because of the general bloody-mindedness of the universe, it will go well for Buckeyes.
I guess the BPONE hasn't fully dissipated. Damn.
November 26th, 2019 at 2:28 PM ^
Probably isn't true, but if it is, and this gives Michigan a better chance, then I don't give a single solitary fuck if this is how it has to happen.
We had to play with Threet, Sheridan and Okorn over the years. See how those fuckers like it for a change.
November 26th, 2019 at 2:29 PM ^
Nawww, I see what OSU is trying to do. Have us spend all week thinking he's out, just to unveil the new Super Fields Supreme package. Don't fall for it!!
November 26th, 2019 at 2:29 PM ^
Sweep the thumb.
November 26th, 2019 at 11:35 PM ^
Do you have a problem with that??
November 26th, 2019 at 2:31 PM ^
"Hasn't practiced this week"?
You mean ... yesterday?
It's been a minute since I've looked at practice schedules, but in season isn't Sunday an off day? So they practice yesterday and it's 2:30 so probably not yet today?
Hmm.
Excellent job, though, OP by clearly noting this as a RUMOR. +1 repped.
November 26th, 2019 at 2:40 PM ^
Being the week of Thanksgiving, I'm guessing there is no classes this week so I would be willing to bet that they practiced this morning or at noon like The Game will be.
November 26th, 2019 at 3:08 PM ^
U-M normally has classes the Monday and Tuesday of Thanksgiving week. Does OSU have the whole week off?
November 26th, 2019 at 5:37 PM ^
OSU football players have three/four/five years off.
November 26th, 2019 at 8:21 PM ^
Yes it’s called the Andy Katzenmoyer General Studies degree.
November 26th, 2019 at 2:31 PM ^
Supposedly hurt earlier in the game and didn't seem to matter. Supposedly not throwing hand, so big whoop.
November 26th, 2019 at 3:51 PM ^
He fumbled three times.
November 26th, 2019 at 2:31 PM ^
With today's modern medicine, and the witch doctors they have in Columbus, he will either have a miracle healing or they will give him a bionic thumb by Saturday. It's not his throwing hand anyway. Fuck Ohio St.
November 26th, 2019 at 2:31 PM ^
Broken thumb or not, Fields fumbled three times last week against PSU. I assume that will be something Don Brown and Michigan's coaches highlight this week.
November 26th, 2019 at 2:31 PM ^
No, no, no, no. Get your ass out there and take your fuckin' medicine, bitch.
"You'll play, Jackson! You'll play!"
November 26th, 2019 at 2:32 PM ^
Nothing to see here, move along.
November 26th, 2019 at 2:33 PM ^
Even if it's true and he doesn't play (not likely), whoever their 2nd string guy is will come in and throw for 300 yards and 4 TD. (Sorry, I've been going to the BPONE Anonymous meetings and it still hasn't cured me)
November 26th, 2019 at 2:33 PM ^
If true... good. Let OSU have a taste of what Michigan, has had to deal with over the years.
November 26th, 2019 at 2:33 PM ^
I hope this young man wasn't injured. That being said I want to see their best product on the field Ssturday and may their schematic knives chip and shatter!
November 26th, 2019 at 2:34 PM ^
You can't plant an excuse on gameday and expect to eat excuse salad that night.
Need to sow that by Tuesday of gameweek.
November 26th, 2019 at 2:34 PM ^
I want full strength oSU for the glory.
November 26th, 2019 at 2:37 PM ^
4 Important Facts:
1) For all intensive purposes OSU has a great chance of being in the CFP no matter what happens in this rivalry game
2) OSU, if this is true, will probably bench him in order to let him heal before the playoffs and NC
3) OSU fans would claim that this game means nothing and they wanted an NC, so he needed to heal; many excuses if they lose this weekend
4) I really don't give a shit either way, as long as we win.
November 26th, 2019 at 2:44 PM ^
1) is not true. OSU is only guaranteed a spot in the B1G Championship Game. If OSU were to lose to Michigan, they would HAVE to win the B1G Championship Game to make the playoff.
In terms of their playoff chances though, winning the B1G Championship Game is more important than winning The Game this year.
November 26th, 2019 at 2:46 PM ^
Is it? Michigan will probably be higher ranked this week than either Wisconsin or Minnesota will be next week.
November 26th, 2019 at 2:52 PM ^
In my view, it is. The Conference Championship is part of the criteria for CFP selection. I think OSU would need help if they were to beat Michigan and lose in the B1G Championship Game. Winning the B1G Championship with a Michigan loss would likely put them in the CFP.
Especially if it is 1-loss Minnesota. If a 1-loss Minnesota beats OSU in the B1G Championship Game, Minnesota is going to the playoff. Add a Georgia win over LSU in the SEC Championship Game with an undefeated Clemson, and OSU is out.
The FiveThirtyEight tool is not perfect, but it generally illustrates the point:
https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2019-college-football-predictions/
Scenario 1: Minnesota winning out + OSU win over Michigan -> OSU playoff odds 17%.
Scenario 2: Wisconsin winning out + OSU win over Michigan -> OSU's playoff odds 29%.
Scenario 3: OSU losing to Michigan -> OSU's playoff odds to 62% (and that is with the B1G Championship still in question).
November 26th, 2019 at 3:00 PM ^
Either way, what game does Ohio State have to win? The Big Ten Championship Game. It would not surprise me if they just hold out Fields if he has an injury he could aggravate before the BTT game. It would also not surprise me if Chase Young and JK Dobbins came down with "the flu" or something on Saturday and they just "cannot go."
Frankly, it would be smart of them to do so (particularly because I think Michigan is the better team and is going to beat them regardless of who plays for OSU).
November 26th, 2019 at 3:25 PM ^
Agreed. I didn't make my point well enough in the my first post. The OP was posting like OSU's spot in the playoff is already sealed up. Winning the B1G Championship Game is the only way they can guarantee their spot in the playoff.
November 26th, 2019 at 5:40 PM ^
Seriously? You really think they would sit 3 of their best players for "The Game"? That seems crazy, like something only being done for a meaningless bowl game ... I can't imagine any team doing that ever.
November 26th, 2019 at 2:47 PM ^
For all intensive purposes
This is where you lost me.
November 26th, 2019 at 10:36 PM ^
For all intensive purposes...this conversation, she's over!
November 26th, 2019 at 2:47 PM ^
https://www.grammarly.com/blog/for-all-intents-and-purposes/
"For all intents and purposes is the usual form of the phrase meaning in every practical sense. For all intensive purposes is a fairly common eggcorn derived from the original phrase. It’s often heard in speech, but it’s rare in published writing because it generally doesn’t pass through the editorial process."
November 26th, 2019 at 2:37 PM ^
I wouldn’t be surprised if he plays but I think the reason he fumbled so much was because of the injury. Could give us the turnovers we need if he plays.
Either way, we’re getting closer to the event.
November 26th, 2019 at 2:39 PM ^
He’ll play on Saturday. And even if he doesn’t, we know how OSU backup QBs play when thrown into the fire against Michigan.
The BPONE is strong and debilitating.
November 26th, 2019 at 2:42 PM ^
He's just faking a broken thumb to avoid playing in freezing rain, he'll probably milk it to sit out the rest of the season too, to prepare for the draft.
November 26th, 2019 at 2:45 PM ^
Great news! Because their back ups haven’t really played well against us at all!

November 26th, 2019 at 2:45 PM ^
I’m more interested in his ankle. That injury would make more of an impact than his non throwing hand thumb.
November 26th, 2019 at 6:45 PM ^
I was wondering the same. Is this just misdirection? Let's get them focused on his thumb when really it's his ankle. I hope Michigan gets plenty of hits on both if he plays.
November 26th, 2019 at 2:46 PM ^
Regardless, I think Justin is coming into this game less than what they wanted health-wise, which is great for us. He got hit a lot against Penn State. Add in that it'll be a wet, cold game, and it should be good for Michigan.
History doesn't care about who plays in this game, it just shows the final result.
I will be very pumped if he can't play.
November 26th, 2019 at 2:47 PM ^
I'll be even happier if he starts and on his first drop back Hutch drives his ass into the turf (a clean and legal hit) and he is left wondering what his name is for the rest of the game.
November 26th, 2019 at 2:49 PM ^
Fields is very lucky he wasn't seriously injured on the last offensive play where he was tackled from behind and his foot bent awkwardly beneath him. You could sense the panic in the OSU crowd when he stayed down after that play.
November 26th, 2019 at 2:46 PM ^
This would be reflected in the line if it were true. No way we'd know about it and Vegas wouldn't.
November 26th, 2019 at 5:57 PM ^
Hasn’t the line moved from -9.5 to -8 since it opened?
November 26th, 2019 at 2:46 PM ^
It's his non-throwing left hand, correct? If so they'll just put a cast on it and he'll play. He might not carry the ball as much because I think he carries predominantly with his left hand. So that is something.
Either way, I will only choose to believe it if he shows up with a big, fat ass cast on his hand. And even then I'll be waiting for him to un-Velcro it and then jog into the huddle.
November 26th, 2019 at 2:53 PM ^
Uh... catching snaps with a cast would seem to be an issue.
November 26th, 2019 at 3:01 PM ^
Well, that's a valid point. It would be difficult to be in the shotgun, which comprises like 99% of their plays.
November 26th, 2019 at 3:31 PM ^
It'd have to be a glove with padding in the thumb or something. I haven't paid attention to whether he wears a glove normally but if not you'd hope that'd throw him off a bit.
Though my BPONE says that he'd have the best game of his career and decide that he's going to wear one from now on. Then he'll go on to be the best QB in the history of college football.
November 26th, 2019 at 2:49 PM ^
This would actually be great. I was worried about his ankle after the last play vs. PSU. Left thumb? He'll be fine.
November 26th, 2019 at 2:58 PM ^
Really? id like see how you do gripping and throwing a cold wet football with basically 1 and a half hands.
November 26th, 2019 at 3:05 PM ^
Who grips and throws a football with two hands? Both of Fields' fumbles against Penn State happened when he was holding the ball in his right hand anyway. Will he be in some kind of discomfort? Sure. Will it affect his throwing mechanics? Or his ability to run? I doubt it. Not like an ankle injury would. If it's an ankle injury, that would be bad.
