Zach Gentry to NFL Draft
January 1st, 2019 at 10:38 PM ^
Best of luck!
January 1st, 2019 at 10:38 PM ^
Bye Felicia.
January 1st, 2019 at 10:41 PM ^
Well, Felicia got her son to the NFL.
January 2nd, 2019 at 8:47 AM ^
And Gentry got his degree, gave his all, and selflessly changed positions when a lot of kids his age would have transferred to play QB. Gentry has been a good representation of the program, so good for him, and we should all wish him the best of luck!
January 2nd, 2019 at 9:05 AM ^
Hear, hear! Best of luck Zack.
January 2nd, 2019 at 11:08 AM ^
Unfortunately for college football teams, but it is good for individual players who are ready, you do not need a four-year college football degree to get a job in the NFL. I wish they would all stay around and get a degree that will bring them a job after football, but then, if they have a chance to make a $1,000,000 at the age of 21, you can't blame them for going.
January 1st, 2019 at 11:38 PM ^
Hello WichitanWolverine,
I think you can sit in timeout for a week.
See you next week!

January 1st, 2019 at 11:53 PM ^
Thank you.
January 2nd, 2019 at 8:53 AM ^
Thanks Sheriff Will!
January 2nd, 2019 at 11:20 AM ^
A week ban seems a bit heavy-handed for a single (albeit immature) comment. He was duly negged by the board - that should be sufficient.
January 3rd, 2019 at 1:30 PM ^
And this is why MGoBlog sucks now and people have left. How about you actually find and ban Maizen and his many troll accounts instead of going after a good user with one comment you don't happen to like.
January 2nd, 2019 at 5:11 AM ^
Fans like you are the fucking WORST.
This guy gave his all for Michigan for 3-4 years and this is your response? You entitled piece of shit.
MLive, this is the new MLive with comments like this (that are tolerated).
January 2nd, 2019 at 9:08 AM ^
Well mlive hasn't had forums in a few years that maybe it literally is.
January 2nd, 2019 at 7:54 AM ^
I appreciate his playing in the bowl game. Just think the difference that our NFL guys would have made. I'm so pissed not only that we lost but that Florida got a win. Would have been nice for Alabama, Georgia, Florida, and MissSt all to end their season on a loss.
January 1st, 2019 at 10:39 PM ^
More targets for Eubanks and Mohammed.
January 1st, 2019 at 10:42 PM ^
They should do a fine job replacing Zach. I expect them to pass McKeon on the depth chart as well.
January 1st, 2019 at 11:26 PM ^
Maybe but McKeon isn’t going anywhere. Coach loves his blocking (from podcast) and spoke very highly of him and his instincts. He may not catch as much but he’ll be in there blocking for sure.
January 1st, 2019 at 11:48 PM ^
Yep, McKeon will be in for three TE sets on 3rd and 8.
January 2nd, 2019 at 8:06 AM ^
I hope McKeon doesn't become the scapegoat for the failure to use DJP, Tarik, & Nico.
January 2nd, 2019 at 11:12 AM ^
Too late, unfortunately. The board has fully turned on him. He makes some mistakes and drops some balls but guy is trying his best when the coaches call on him. It's the coaches that are responsible for the scheme and plays called.
January 2nd, 2019 at 9:02 PM ^
And the recruiting
January 1st, 2019 at 10:45 PM ^
Or maybe to WR’s!! Seriously though, good luck young man!
January 1st, 2019 at 10:39 PM ^
He has more to gain with another year in college than every other player on the fence. I just dont get that decision
January 1st, 2019 at 10:48 PM ^
Maybe he's just sick of the fanbases shit and would rather get paid.
January 1st, 2019 at 10:53 PM ^
I’m sure he’s a regular on MGoBlog
January 1st, 2019 at 11:10 PM ^
Because negative fan interaction is strictly an MGoBlog thing...
January 2nd, 2019 at 5:16 AM ^
Exactly.
Because MGoBlog isn't a microcosm of social media and the "real world" responses, just centralized and a little more potent because these idiots can sit behind their computer with no real consequence.
I know for a fact that him graduating and the Michigan fanbase turning into something worse than the OSU fanbase has something to do with it. Feeling like his draft stock wasn't going to go up also had something to do with it.
The way this fanbase has reacted to Peppers, Gary, Bush and Gentry is repulsive. This is WAY worse than the John Navarre days.
January 1st, 2019 at 11:16 PM ^
Well then that would make him soft because every starting player of big time programs receives criticism from fans on twitter after a bad game. Dude dropped a TD pass and 2 1st down passes IN THE OHIO STATE GAME. Of course he's gonna get shit for it
But I doubt that has anything to do with it. He probably got a 3rd-5th round grade and felt good with that
January 2nd, 2019 at 1:48 AM ^
The draft advisory board doesn't give 3rd-5th round grades. It's 1st, 2nd, or go back to school.
January 2nd, 2019 at 11:34 AM ^
That’s so not true. You have no idea how it works. I’ve actually seen a draft grade card last week from a player. Half the problem here is the mid information you all spout out about.
January 2nd, 2019 at 5:28 AM ^
LOL, he's soft?
1. He plays football at a D1 Power Five school and goes through more rigorous, "non-soft," activity than you behind your keyboard. Academically he goes to one of the best schools in the country...pretty sure he's not mentally soft either.
2. You are correct, everyone criticism - this is different, it's way more (same with the way people talk about Gary).
"Dude dropped passes..." - we all know that, but hold on, because Michigan has lost how many games to OSU? Why are Gentry's mistakes magnified? Did he play defense? Why does Gentry become the scapegoat for an entire teams performance?
All of this stuff very much has something to do with his decision (just as much as his draft grade)...maybe folks with the same attitude you have have ruined his college experience, maybe he just wants to move on? Only he can speak for himself, but people act like he should just stay in college and catch shit for another year by the SAME people who are supposed to be supporting him and have his back.
If Michigan fans don't support him, who will? I don't blame him (or anyone else) one bit from moving on. This fanbase has become toxic. Recruits read this stuff, our rivals coaches read this stuff, our PLAYERS read this stuff, Michigan is supposed to be above the SEC/Bucknuts/RCMB b/s - now we have the same shit fans without the wins and championships. Recipe for disaster.
January 2nd, 2019 at 7:21 AM ^
I am with you on the over the top vitriol. Are you Gentry, since you “know for a fact”? Not trying to be sarcastic—just wondering if it is your own anger at the hot takes or some kind of knowing Gentry?
I had to defend Gentry on Twitter after pricks started saying how horrible he is after one drop in OSU game. Problem is, these pricks don’t focus on the few drops OSU guys make every game—including the ones against us.
He needs work to be consistent with hands but he was reliable for much of the year. He has speed and height and solid route running. He will develop into a solid pro.
January 2nd, 2019 at 12:03 AM ^
He even outright stated as much recently. He said the fanbase harassed him so much after the OSU game that he had to shut down his Twitter account. In all honesty, he had a really solid season outside of that one horrific game.
January 2nd, 2019 at 12:12 AM ^
He outright stated that he was heading to the NFL because he was harassed by Michigan fans after the OSU game? No he did not
Ive seen numerous Michigan players say they've received shit talk from fans recently. It didn't make them declare for the NFL draft over it
Gentry isn't leaving because he received some smack talk after the OSU game. That's a fucking silly ass narrative. He's leaving because he received a good grade for the NFL draft. Simple as that
January 2nd, 2019 at 12:58 AM ^
I didn't mean to insinuate that he left specifically because of shitty fans. I was just trying to point out that he made it a point to talk about it in public recently. If someone is on the fence, feeling unappreciated is something that could give them a little push. The amount of toxic sludge this fanbase hurled at him over one bad game was excessive.
January 2nd, 2019 at 1:14 AM ^
Toxic sludge? Welcome to Twitter. It's a cancer.
January 2nd, 2019 at 4:27 AM ^
One bad game? I'm not here to bash Gentry, but he certainly didn't meet expectations this year.
I wonder how he would have turned out as a QB.
January 2nd, 2019 at 6:19 AM ^
If he thinks NFL fans are going to be kinder, more generous and more patient, he may be in for a bit of a disappointment.
January 2nd, 2019 at 7:45 AM ^
So how many of you are ripping him over the mere speculation that your fans ripping him may have contributed. Classic
January 2nd, 2019 at 8:28 AM ^
2019 NFL MINIMUM SALARIES
Rookie: $495k
2nd Year: $570k
3rd Year: $645k
4th Year: $720k
Yeah, but he'll have $2.5-ish million reasons to not give a fuck what a bunch of meatball NFL fans think of him.
January 2nd, 2019 at 11:27 AM ^
NFL contracts aren't guaranteed...
He will almost certainly make that $495K - but lots of folks who are drafted higher then Gentry will be never see a second year of their contract.
January 2nd, 2019 at 1:29 PM ^
For rookie contracts, I think the number of guaranteed years depends on what round a player is drafted in.
January 2nd, 2019 at 8:31 AM ^
Taking shit from “fans”. Doing it for tuition, room and board as opposed to $500,000 per year? Tough call there guy.
January 2nd, 2019 at 5:37 AM ^
He did say he was being harrassed - never said that's why he was leaving. But it was clear that's what was pushing this "decision."
His talent/experience says "get a token draft grade and come back to school." Guys who are MUCH more NFL ready had already made their decision to come back. Gentry's lingered forever, there's definitely more to the story.
I can't fault anyone for assuming the way the fanbase has treated him is the "more to the story" after he's already said that it's happening.
If the decision was "NFL Draft" or "Transfer" - well, I'd go to the draft too rather than sit a year or learn a new system as a grad transfer. May as well get on a roster if you have a M-degree in your hand.
January 2nd, 2019 at 8:40 AM ^
If you can’t handle the harassment from some random twitter idiots while in college, you better get some thicker skin and be prepared for more pressure in the Not For Long League.
January 2nd, 2019 at 10:55 AM ^
LOL if he thinks NFL fans are any nicer than Michigan (or any college fans).
January 1st, 2019 at 10:54 PM ^
Maybe Pep told him he's going 11 personnel next year and your targets will
decrease. /s
January 1st, 2019 at 10:58 PM ^
Hope he's close to graduating. If NFL doesn't work out, he has great degree to fall back on.
January 1st, 2019 at 10:58 PM ^
watdadaphaque?
January 1st, 2019 at 11:01 PM ^
This is his 4th year, plus I am pretty sure he enrolled early too. I'm thinking the graduation was happening this spring either way for him.
Best of luck to him...I can see a mid round pick given his size and overall athleticism as a flex TE.
