[LOCKED] No JBB in the Peach Bowl
Some team pictures without him in Atlanta were leading to this, but now looks like JBB will not be playing in the Peach Bowl for sure.
Assuming Stueber starts at RT. This now means Michigan will be without four starters on Saturday, exciting to see young talent prove themselves....
[edit:mgowill] locked because this is already coming off the rails.

I haven't seen anything about Florida players who will miss the game. Do you have anything on that?

As of today, Mullen expects all players to be available. Nobody draft eligible is sitting out.

I’m assuming he is still working to get healthy? Otherwise, this one doesn’t make that much sense. I may have missed it, but I don’t think he’s that well regarded in NFL scouting circles.
Best of luck to him either way.

Because he's injured still, or??
Not being in team pics is a bit odd, unless he just didn't want to take the trip just to watch the game.

I get people sitting out, but JBB sitting out for the NFL is laughable. This staff made a miracle out of JBB and to not give back is disappointing.
Regardless, thanks JBB for your contributions. Good luck in the NFL.

There's no indication that he is sitting out to not get injured and hurt whatever small NFL chance he may have, but even if he was who cares. A small shot at the NFL is higher than most people have. I assumed he wasn't fully healed from his last injury, similar to Devin Bush - though Bush should have sat out regardless.

We all get that. If that is the case, they should skip the bowl game all together, all the seniors so they can have a shot at the NFL.

Baumgardner's report quoted a team official that JBB "elected to not play" in the bowl. No way they use that language if he is injured.

He owes his teammates his best effort - if he is injured or he is heading to the NFL, his teammates will understand and accept his sitting out. But if he is sitting out for other selfish reasons, then he is a coward.
Football is the quintessential team sport - his teammates and coaches need him out there.

If he’s sitting out to prepare for the draft, it still makes sense. Getting in good shape and working out to prepare for a strong showing at the combine and/or his pro day will go a lot further in helping his draft stock than playing against Florida.
Better for his future he focus on individual development and have a strong showing for scouts.

With JBB and Higdon not playing, we could see an offense where all 11 starters return next season. It’ll be interesting to see what we look like, because this will be the offense we see next year; with some switches most likely at RB and/or Tackle.

Ross will be very good the next 2 years. I hope McGrone or someone else gets some WLB reps with Gil. Just curious to see what that would look like.
If Anthony looks good next year or the year after, maybe Ross sticks at Will

Has McGrone even seen playing time at LB yet? Can't remember if he has seen anything other than ST action. It'd be good to get him some run but I'd bet Ross, Gil and Anthony see the lion's share of LB play in Bush's absence.

If you look at this game as an end of season bowl game, you'll yawn.
But if you look at it as sort of a pre-Spring Game with 1's against 1's, it's kind of exciting.

Of course it matters. Look at all the stupid “Harbaugh won 10 games in 3/4 seasons” posts. One of those 10 win seasons was due to the bowl win.
11 wins > 10 wins, and losses don’t come with a “happened in the bowl” footnote.

you know I was talking about this with some friends of mine. I'm honestly fine if we don't make the playoffs we treat the bowl practice/game as a Spring Practice type senerio. give all the reps to players that will be back the next year, and get a start on figuring out the depth chart. If you have a senior that wants to play that is fine give them the start in the game, but split reps with next years assumed starter, and give the backups the reps in practice.

I think a lot of coaches view it this way as the first game of the next year...which would make it important for building momentum.

I really want to get that 11th win and a chance to finish top 5 in the country but I have to admit I think I'm getting more interested in the game as a chance to check out some of the young kids and think about next season. It is interesting to think the starters on offense Saturday may be the exact same guys we see at the start of next season.

Yep. This is how I feel. It’s been a while since I have really cared about a bowl win. I know some people think they are a huge deal and somehow “momentum” caries over 9 months to next year but I don’t buy it. As soon as the clock hits zero no one but maybe players and coaches should really care about the outcome. I’m glad the players get a nice trip and gifts, they deserve it. I am way more interested to see if the offense changes based on personnel and seeing some young guys get time.
