Submitted by lhglrkwg on November 13th, 2018 at 7:17 PM

Well, rankings are out and the top 10 held serve.

  1. Alabama
  2. Clemson
  3. Notre Dame
  4. Michigan
  5. Georgia
  6. Oklahoma
  7. LSU
  8. Wazzu
  9. West Virginia
  10. Ohio State
  11. UCF
  12. Syracuse
  13. Florida
  14. Penn State
  15. Texas
  16. Iowa State
  17. Kentucky
  18. Washington
  19. Utah
  20. BC
  21. Mississippi State
  22. Northwestern
  23. Utah State
  24. Cincinnati
  25. Boise State

Florida and Kentucky continue to be laughably overrated.

I was thinking this, and honestly I dont care which we get.  We likely have to play Clemson and Bama anyway.  Finishing 2nd vs. 4th really doesnt mean a damn thing in the scheme of things.  Just get to the playoffs, play our asses off. And let the chips fall where they may.

I partially agree with this, I just want at least 1 playoff win. Make a statement against either Alabama or Clemson, and solidify ourselves in the national spotlight as "legit." And who knows, maybe ND falls to 'Cuse, and Oklahoma gets the nod if they win out along with Alabama. It certainly would not be out of the realm of possibility to see us playing OU in the NC which also favors us I believe. I think OU would also expose more of AL Ds in a good loss, which would be helpful for us in game planing for AL, rather than playing them first. Thoughts?

The later a game against Alabama could be pushed, the better.  That both creates additional opportunities for other teams to upset them, and provides more possibilities for injuries or other entropy events that favor the underdog.  Moreover, even just winning a semi-final puts another trophy in Michigan’s case—so might as well have the lesser opponent then.

I think Michigan’s NCAA Tournament run last spring provides a meaningful comparison.  M faced Loyola in the semifinals and Villanova in the title game.  This gave M an easier path to the finals and also gave Kansas a shot to knock off Villanova first.  It didn’t work out.  But if M had drawn Villanova in the semi-finals, then M would not have made the title game and there would have been no possibility of avoiding Villanova via KU upset.

Galloway in the Michigan corner...glad we're not having a lightning storm.  Evidently SoS doesn't matter for P5 teams and ND.  So what they're saying is that Michigan needs to unilaterally cancel next year's game with ND and see if Citadel has an open date that coincides with one of Michigan's open dates.

As much as people complain about stuff on here, I find few things more annoying than the constant post to beat the next team on Michigan's schedule. Yeah dudes, I'm pretty sure by now after seeing it four thousand times that that's the fucking goal around here. We also all get that your way of saying that you don't care about the current postings of others is to do just this. We get it. Okay? Fuck heads!!

An arrangement to perform physical and mental exertions & efforts to facilitate & encourage footballing lads from Bloomington IN to result in fewer tally's than counterparting lads from the most well read city in the land should indubitably be sought, pursued & ascertained post haste!

Proceed CMYK C100/M60/Y0/K60!

This is good news tho cant believe they moved Florida up two spots after BARELY beating a shitty South Carolina team, only moved Kentucky down to 17 and left OSU at 10 after their win at MSU.

They SO over rank the SEC its not funny

That Florida ranking is horrendous.  Their last three games are: lost to Georgia by 19, lost to Missouri by 21 (!) and needed a big comeback to squeeze by a mediocre South Carolina team at home.  Their nonconference schedule is a joke, and their three losses are all by double digits.  How are they 13th?  20th seems closer.  Who would you take on a neutral field: Florida or Utah State?  I don't know, but I bet that would be a tight game.

It's hard to move OSU up given the loss to Purdue, and what Purdue did against Minnesota.  MSU is basically broken at this point, and gave OSU 9 points.  I can't argue for moving either West Virginia or Wazzu below them, and LSU beat Georgia by 20, so I wouldn't drop them below OSU either.  OSU has one win over a ranked team and looked pretty weak against Minnesota and Nebraska to go along with the Purdue win.  I think LSU and West Virginia should be switched, and 10th is perfect for OSU.

Almost all of the overranking of non-B1G teams compared to good B1G teams can be explained by the turds laid by upper-middle B1G teams in the non-conference schedule.  Wisconsin, Northwestern (x2), MSU all lost a game they should have won, which would have put their record in a place that's not embarrassing to be ranked.

You have to just hope that each wins out, along with Penn State too, which they should, and thus all wind up ranked in the back 15 of the 25, and make M look even more awesome for beating them all.

Point of order: MSU gave OSU 12 points.

- 2 pts for intentional safety

- 7 pts for yakety-sax fumble in end zone recovered by OSU for TD

- 3 pts for fumble recovered by OSU at the MSU 15 yard line (OSU's offense actually lost yardage on the ensuing "drive" and kicked the FG from the MSU 18)

OSU's offense scored 7 points until the very end of the 4th quarter.

i really liked the quotes from the CFP committee chair guy about how michigan has wins on the road v. ranked teams (sparty and NW) and a 'dominant win over' PSU.

win and we're in.  please, don't stumble boys.

Inspired by you, mgrowold, I just read his Wikipedia page.  Cool story, multiple sport star/winner.  Walk on at Colorado who became a 3 yr starter.  I like him even more now.  Not as much as you, mgrowold, but he is 'ascending ', as coach harbaugh is fond of saying.

LSU is just as overrated as Florida.  Keeping Florida at 13 (which is absurd) gives LSU a better loss.  I think we win out we are in, but this shit with the SEC is ridiculous.  What a horrible message it would send to CFB if a dominant 12-1 Michigan B1G champ is left out.

GA/Bama is a play in game in my opinion and if it isn't, it is time to rethink the conf championships.  Hard to imagine a game of this magnitude could mean nothing to Bama if they lose.

FWIW this morning the ESPN talking heads all agreed that there was no way Alabama will get left out if they lose to Georgia so they were debating which team between ND, Clemson and Michigan would likely get left out.

Joel Klatt has a much better platform than me but we are both saying the same thing.  If Georgia wins the committee will put two SEC teams in and they sending clear and very easy to signals of their intentions right now with how highly they are ranking SEC teams despite all evidence that points otherwise.

Not all evidence. Ignore what teams look like on the field and look only at resumes and you'll arrive at a similar ranking as the committee does. You may be right that the committee's rankings signal Bama staying ahead of Michigan if they lose in the SEC CG, but it will be because of what they prioritize and value (resume), not some shady agenda to prop up the SEC artificially.

If your argument is that there are warning signs, I agree completely; it's a plausible outcome based on resumes, depending on the committee's valuation of conference championships. If your argument is that the committee is externally motivated to have two SEC teams, I don't see evidence of it that can't be better explained by assuming the committee only cares about resume.

I really think this is true.  For all his quirks and just simply weirdness, there's no doubt that he loves the game, he loves his university, and he loves his players.  He has passion for everything that he is supposed to love, and he truly is the best representative this university could hope for.  Almost every single other university in this country would love to have someone like this as the HC.  It's why Nebraska hired Frost, and Louisville seems ready to hire Brohm.  It's special, and we should all be thankful.

Fuh real tho....yearning for a thread hating our football team/season and wishing for a good basketball season and a QB to compete with the big boys and a defense that isn't overrated or something. Or another thread on why ND should be behind a team they already beat.

Edit: Cripes I really needed a /sarcasm here?!  It's the internet I know, but that was easy irony people and the first "shot" at the OP.

Holding off UGA this week was important because of their remaining schedule: UMass & Georgia Tech.

They won't have an opportunity to keep Michigan out of the playoff unless Michigan loses.
