Well, rankings are out and the top 10 held serve.

  1. Alabama
  2. Clemson
  3. Notre Dame
  4. Michigan
  5. Georgia
  6. Oklahoma
  7. LSU
  8. Wazzu
  9. West Virginia
  10. Ohio State
  11. UCF
  12. Syracuse
  13. Florida
  14. Penn State
  15. Texas
  16. Iowa State
  17. Kentucky
  18. Washington
  19. Utah
  20. BC
  21. Mississippi State
  22. Northwestern
  23. Utah State
  24. Cincinnati
  25. Boise State

Florida and Kentucky continue to be laughably overrated.

There are really four key games left that will determine whether we make the CFP:

  • Michigan @ Ohio State - obviously we need to win
  • SEC Championship - we want Alabama to beat Georgia. If Georgia beats Alabama, there's a decent chance they both make the playoffs and knock us out.
  • Oklahoma @ West Virginia - we want WV to beat Oklahoma. There's a chance that if Oklahoma won this game and the next one, their strength of schedule would push them over us in a battle of one-loss teams.
  • Big 12 Championship - likely a rematch of Oklahoma-West Virginia. West Virginia would probably be ranked behind us even if they win both these games, but the ideal scenario would be for the teams to split these two games, giving both of them two losses and removing all doubt.

There are obviously other games that could affect our standing. If the events above break the right way, I'm also assuming that we beat Indiana and Northwestern, that Alabama and Georgia win out, and that Notre Dame beats Syracuse and USC to finish undefeated. None of those things are guaranteed, but they seem more likely than the pivotal four games above.

Zero losses: Alabama, Clemson, ND (1, 2, 3)

One Loss: Michigan, Georgia, Oklahoma, Wash St., WVU, OSU (4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10)

Two Losses:  LSU, Syracuse (7, 12)

Three Losses:  Florida, Penn State, Texas, Iowa St., Kentucky, Washington, Utah, BC (13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20)

Four Losses:  Mississippi State, Northwestern (21, 22)

They. Are. Ranking. By. Record.

LSU is the only one out of order. They should be 10, I suppose. How does that affect Michigan? It doesn't. We're #4. We're the nation's top-ranked 1-loss team. Again. Despite the world's bias. I'm pissed.
