Rumor: Ed Warinner a candidate for Kansas HC
I was listening to Full Ride on ESPNU radio this morning, and Rick Neuheisel talked up Ed Warinner as a top candidate for the Kansas head coach job. I've looked a bit online just now and haven't found anything to go with this, but . . .
- Warinner is a former OC at Kansas, including for their 2007 Orange Bowl team,
- He previously interviewed for the HC job back in 2014 when he was Co-OC at OSU.
Too early for anything substantial to happen, but I thought I might as well yell fire in a crowded theater and cause a panic.

If you watched LSU at all when Miles was there, you know two things:
1. Miles' teams did not play a fast-paced, explosive offense brand of football, and
2. Miles is not an Xs and Os guy.
Now think of the conference that Kansas plays in.
Miles will get his shit kicked in for 3 years at Kansas, then he'll get canned just like Beaty. Kansas would be better to keep Beaty than to hire Miles.

your avatar checks out. do you coach football....charlie?

I kinda still want this to happen.
November 8th, 2018 at 6:56 PM ^
Oh I definitely want it to happen

miles has cauche with recruits and maybe that’s what long is betting on. Plus, Kansas will be in the news for hiring Less, which creates buzz. After three years, regardless of success, Les should have exponentially increased the talent.
Myabe that’s what long is betting on is les to bring talent and another coach to mold it and run with it. I don’t know....it’s kanas, they need a massive face lift
November 8th, 2018 at 6:14 PM ^
Yes, he has a certain panauche.
November 8th, 2018 at 6:57 PM ^
Correction: LSU has cache with recruits, and Les coached at LSU. Kansas does not have pull, and Les won't have pull their either.

my b long day

less is more? Definitely need a new carr with Les miles
November 8th, 2018 at 8:55 PM ^
When Miles was HC at OSU (ntOSU), he went 2-2 against Oklahoma as a massive underdog each time, back when Leach was OU's OC.

The Big 12 in 2002 is not the Big 12 in 2018 - they play vastly different styles of football now.
November 8th, 2018 at 5:22 PM ^
C'mon Les, do your alma mater a favor and quickly tie up this job!
November 8th, 2018 at 4:30 PM ^
Show him the money!
really, KU is not a good landing spot for him... it would be a struggle for anyone to turn that program around...
i am hoping Michigan opens up the cheque book to locks him in long term
November 8th, 2018 at 5:27 PM ^
+1 for going full Canuck on us.
November 8th, 2018 at 6:49 PM ^
He's showing his true colours!!
November 8th, 2018 at 4:32 PM ^
Only time I saw anything mentioning this rumor was from Gerdman, from the Ozone.. is this really how rumors start?
November 8th, 2018 at 4:32 PM ^
If we throw the bank at him as we should, I see no reason why he would want to go to the Rutger of the Big 12
November 8th, 2018 at 4:46 PM ^
The Rutger of the Big 12 beat the Rutger of the B1G by 41 points this year.
November 8th, 2018 at 4:33 PM ^
Give him an OC title and a bunch of cash. Even so, that’s not a head coaching gig.
November 8th, 2018 at 4:34 PM ^
Why would anyone take that job? The guy is a fantastic OL coach and was an ok but not great OC with a talented OSU offense. -
So the choices are that he can stay at Michigan for the next 5-10 years as the OL Coach / Running Game coordinator and get paid a ton of $$$ (more than Kansas can pay its HC).
Or he can go start a rebuild at Kansas and be out of a job in 2-3 years. And not even be able to focus on what he is best at - coaching the OL.
If his life goal is to be the HC at a basketball school, then he should go for it. Otherwise, he would be crazy to take it.
November 8th, 2018 at 4:36 PM ^
Hmmmm...
Should I join the second worst power five program as a head coach or make gigantic money coaching high-level offensive lineman on a championship level team in the best college town in America?
I like our chances...
November 8th, 2018 at 4:36 PM ^
"Dammit Jim, you've got to break out the wallet and pay the man!!!"
November 8th, 2018 at 4:36 PM ^
Basically, anybody with a pulse who has some connection to Kansas football and some modicum of success coaching at any level is a candidate.
November 8th, 2018 at 4:37 PM ^
He's not even being looked at by Kansas right now. They're focusing on guys with HC experience, not OL coaches.
November 8th, 2018 at 4:57 PM ^
That was my reaction as well. The coach they just fired was just a position coach when KU hired him. Considering they hired a football guy to be their AD, I think they are looking to make a splash.
November 8th, 2018 at 5:05 PM ^
Yeah, Long (Kansas AD - former associate AD here) literally tweeted that they will hire an experienced HC. Warinner isn't a candidate.
November 8th, 2018 at 6:18 PM ^
That’s good. Warinner would be a great fit if they were trying to hit on a position-type guy given his credentials and previous experience there. But if they want a HC guy Michigan isn’t a factor here.
Hard to get a guy with HC experience to go to KU, though. It’s kinda Miles or a castoff that failed somewhere else. Miles, at least, has some success. Most guys with his credentials can still get good P5 jobs.
Come to think of it, RR is available.

Greg Schiano...
November 8th, 2018 at 11:25 PM ^
I actually don't think that would be a terrible hire for them
November 8th, 2018 at 7:46 PM ^
I'd be looking at one of the G5 coaches that puts up a ton of points if I were a Big 12 team looking for a new headman.
Mike Norvell at Memphis, Major Applewhite at Houston, Matt Wells at Utah State all have top 20 S&P offenses. Not sure any of them would jump at Kansas, but they're probably worth the call.

MAC jobs are better than Kansas!
November 8th, 2018 at 4:39 PM ^
We at U of M like to keep nice things. Please, please, please help us keep Coach Ed.
November 8th, 2018 at 4:41 PM ^
He seems to be pretty actively tweeting all sorts of pro michigan things, and I'm sure he feels pretty good about how he is essentially worshipped by our fanbase/players now. Also, his son is a LB for MSU actually and is early on in his tenure there, so being in AA keeps him close to his kid too (even if he is in EL).
November 8th, 2018 at 4:42 PM ^
True freshman at MSU. Ed (and certainly Ed's wife) loves being within driving distance of his son. We're fine.
November 8th, 2018 at 8:07 PM ^
I think his son was dinged up last week.
November 8th, 2018 at 4:44 PM ^
He is 56 years old - I'm not sure if he wants to leave a destination program to "rebuild" a program that hasn't won much in his lifetime. If he can get more money from MICHIGAN, more power to him.
November 8th, 2018 at 4:59 PM ^
Didn't he come to Michigan in part because he wanted to be closer to his son? Unless a MAC program comes crawling, I think the biggest threat is if the Lions fire their OL coach.
November 8th, 2018 at 4:46 PM ^
Fuck that, Warriner is staying here. No more O-Line Coach merry-go-rounds.
November 8th, 2018 at 4:48 PM ^
A pundit says a school should hire a guy is not a rumor. We should all know that by know with the annual Harbaugh to NFL (lol Cleveland!) horse shit.
I would bet this is presented as fact to Keegan by OSU people though.

Delete this.

You shut your dirty whore mouth!
November 8th, 2018 at 4:50 PM ^
Les Miles can help us out here.
November 8th, 2018 at 4:51 PM ^
I find it unlikely he leaves. He's earned himself $$$$ and a Run-game Coordinator title.
November 8th, 2018 at 4:55 PM ^
their basketball program is about to be shot into the sun. lawrence isn't going to be a fun place to work.
November 8th, 2018 at 4:56 PM ^
On the Solid Verbal this week they also mentioned Dan Enos as a KU candidate.
I had just been thinking recently about this offensive explosion at Bama and wondered how much of it has been attributable to Enos. I know many around here weren't thrilled at Harbaugh hiring him, but it sure seems like maybe Coach knew what he was thinking when he tried to bring Enos in.
November 8th, 2018 at 4:59 PM ^
Weirdly enough, I actually talked to Enos' brother the other day. Enos thinks he's going to be OC at Bama next year - he's under the impression that Locksley will be taking a HC spot this offseason.

Maryland, maybe?
