Looking at Max Preps he recorded stats for all but 3 games, so while not dispositive it does match up.  I sort of hope the reality never comes out (because it's really nobody's business why he left the class), but it would make sense that a kid a year+ out decommits from a top-4 team.

Why do you think they're pulling the scholarship? His tweet said he decided they have too many DE's on the roster. Sounds to me like he doesn't want to compete for a spot on the 2 deep.

Edit: nvm just saw umbig11's post

Not sure how Harrison and/or Karlaftis come into play here as they are 2019 in class ahead. Unless it will just we amount of total DL around his recruiting year.

Frankly @ 6'1" and 318lbs he seemed to fit that NT niche better than most of our other DL recruits that were 6'4"-6'7" so I'd assume it was something else other than class numbers.

This is a take that comes up from time to time since Erik Swenson's offer was essentially rescinded prior to the 2016 signing day, and it's usually wrong.

It seems pretty clear Harbaugh's offers, especially to lower rated players, are contingent upon roster, grades, team needs, and continued improvement on the player's part.

If Warren was meeting all the criteria he would remain in the 2020 class. If Harbaugh thought he had a gem in Warren he would remain in the class. He's not remaining in the class. It will be OK for all parties involved. He has the entire 2020 recruiting cycle to find a proper fit and if he's a kid and recruit worth having, he will.

Interestingly enough he cited specifically that we didn't have room on the DL for 2020. Are there any recruits for the DL that we are in on that we favor more? or is it that our depth is unexpectedly better than anticipated? Strange turn of events.

I’m going to choose to believe this is because Gary is returning for his senior year.

Yes I’m aware that does not affect the 2020 scholarship count.  He’s coming back LALALALALA

i guess?

you still need to restock 1 every year you'd think however... because injuries happen and/or kids don't turn out... or do turn out but leave early... Michigan takes a DL in 2020 for sure be it Warren or someone else

i would have guess him RS his first year anyways and if not, just limited time getting in all the off the field work.

oh well, good luck to him... i was pretty excited for him

Just further confirms the fact that there is no science nor rhyme nor reason to the recruiting thing. I love this kid's upside-he would be a beast for Michigan. Alabama's bagmen must have pooled their resources. Maybe he will return to his senses.

Maybe this is the new way Harbaugh and co. are being up front with recruits that they are not wanting anymore?

Rather than just completely ignore them hoping they decommit (bad) they say there are not enough spots at their position (better)

This has to be a good sign for Harrison, paired with Wiltfong's CB. As a 4 star Warren must want to play right away and do the 3-and-out Rashan Gary thing. If it looks like he won't see the field that much in 2020 and could potentially redshirt, that means he'd need to prove himself an NFL prospect in just 2 years.

We need to get some big wr’s in the coming classes. Not too much from the senior or junior class at all and I’m afraid of the trio going pro after next year. I don’t recall us having any big time wr commits since

While there are a ton of DL players in the 18 and 19 classes you still need to take a DT every year IMO.

So this could have come down to a lot of things.  The coaches being very open with him about the DL numbers(still odd to pull a 2020 offer when so much could change in the meantime) and/or him noticing the depth chart and wondering about when he'd see the field.

I have a feeling there were a lot of honest conversations and the truth is a mix of him thinking the field might be too crowded and the coaches realizing they need to balance the other positions a bit more.  Otherwise I can;t make pulling the offer of a 2020 kid make sense in my head as it's just too far out.  Plus pissing off ANOTHER kid in Chicago would be astronomically stupid after l'affaire Swenson(justified as the coaches may have been).
