Quavaris Crouch tells the Charlotte Observer Michigan and Clemson are tied for #1 on his list

Submitted by Diagonal Blue on October 24th, 2018 at 7:35 PM

Crouch said he planned official visits to Michigan Nov. 3, Clemson Nov. 17 and Alabama Dec. 7. He’s also planning visits to Southern Cal and Florida State. He also told the State that he’s got leaders.

“I would say Michigan is No. 1, but the weather is crazy,” Crouch said. “I feel like Michigan and Clemson are tied for No. 1.”

Earlier this week Steve Wiltfong said he thought Clemson was leading.

I talked to another source this morning that feels Clemson is indeed in the driver seat for the coveted recruit.

My Crystal Ball was on Tennessee and there is belief that when the Vols get their official they could flip this back their way.

A third source believes Michigan has a chance to make a move when the blue-chipper takes his official for the Penn State game the weekend of Nov. 3. I've been sleeping on the Maize and Blue here but I'm starting to buy them as a major contender. Crouch has always been high on the Wolverines and included them in his favorites, I was just told weather would be a factor in his decision by someone close to him early in the process. We'll see what happens early next month.

Florida State is scheduled to get Crouch on campus this weekend per our Clemson insider at 247Sports in Anna Hickey.

The industry-generated 247Sports Composite bills Crouch as the nation's No. 2 athlete, No. 1 prospect in North Carolina and No. 28 player regardless of position.

Difference between being drafted and being recruited.  If being recruited, you can easily go wherever you want, using whatever criteria you want.  This NFL is in cold weather take is...not great, Bob.  I would also imagine that having millions of dollars eases the pain.

Crazy weather?

So that rules out Clemson, Bama, and FSU, right?  Because hurricane season affects everybody’s bottom line, especially the player that wants to make a name for himself.

Since 1851, a total of exactly five cat 3 and higher hurricanes have hit the states of south carolina and Alabama respectively. Only three have hit Georgia.

It snows every winter in AA, and lasts for months, as opposed to two days (albeit scary days). Cant blame a kid from the south for taking his chances on the hurricanes.

Well, being tied for #1 is better than being #2. Previously he has stated that he wants to play for a winning program...and that he liked Michigan but they had to prove themselves. I believe Rumler is going to be in town on 11/3...would seem to be a good time for the Hinton boys to show up...maybe Daxton too!

Definitely less humidity and heat. But I would say Clemson's facilities look on par or maybe even nicer that Michigans (by nicer I mean more luxury items that aren't particularly needed but are still kinda cool). Also Clemson has an indoor facility as well.

I'm not optimistic on landing Crouch just because Clemson has pretty much everything Michigan has (minus as good academics though Clemson isn't too bad) and it's closer to home for him. He's talked about distance, weather, and winning as major factors in his recruitment and Clemson checks those boxes as well. I'm still hoping to be surprised and that he gets absolutely blown away in the PSU visit. The stadium has to be rocking when he visits!

We should sell the point that when he plays for the NFL that he would have to play in all kinds of weather. So Michigan can prepare him for both in college

The city of Clemson sucks mightily. It's basically a decent looking (but small) school, a decent stadium, a lake, and 50 feet of "downtown".

I'd pick shitty weather over shitty town.

This is exactly right.

Clemson has its strengths. In addition to the weather, the winning (tracking toward fourth straight playoffs, right?) and the proximity, they have Dabo and the overtly Christian culture that he will immediately feel comfortable with.

Michigan has a truly world class University that looks and feels it; Ann Arbor, which is a special, special college town (and it shows, esp on game day); the iconic stadium/helmets/fight song/etc that are legendary elements of the entire sport; a culture that will challenge his horizons/grow him into a man; a sense in his mind that it is all special and he fits here ... he knows this in his bones, IMO.

Just for clarity, the quote from Crouch in the OP was from an interview he did last week:

https://www.thestate.com/sports/college/university-of-south-carolina/usc-recruiting/phil-kornblut/article220219610.html

He visited Clemson (unofficially) over the weekend and Wiltfong said afterward that he thought Clemson made a move and is probably in the driver's at the moment.  Obviously Michigan still has a great chance, with his official visit to AA still to come (where we typically knock it out of the park), but wanted to add some context to the timing of events cited in the original post.

Also worth noting, he hasn't used his official to Clemson yet.

Really hope we can land this kid.

I’ve never understood the weather argument. It only shows they’ve only known one thing, and that’s heat. I’ve lived down here for 10 years now and I gotta say, even now, I’ll take the snow ANY DAY over the summer 100+ degree heat. It’s ridiculous, and you just can’t go outside from June-September for more than a few minutes at a time.

In other words he's coming to Ann Arbor to see some kick ass football, going to Clemson to see Slaughter House Five, and then on to Tuscaloosa to see what the Elephants do when there's no football or NASCAR.

Well it ain't getting warmer.  If we make the playoffs and beat Clemson we will get him.  But usually players who openly bitch about weather, never come north.

Sounds like people are already in his ear..If "the weather" is their main knock on UM that should tell you something..In the cold you can add clothes, gross southern humid heat is breeding grounds for bacteria and you just sweat on each other..dont buy into the myth of warm is better

I heard he’s been playing more LB this year. Would be a huge get since Singleton just left. Could use another athlete in there, especially since this current class is light in that area.

I feel like the best response to weather concerns from recruits is to point out that their future profession has them frequently making visits to Green Bay, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Philadelphia, Buffalo, etc. in the winter months. You're gonna be in the cold at some point, might as well get used to it now

That's just a losing argument.

You don't get to pick your draft team. And they pay you. And you can just drive to/from practice -- no walking to class, parties, etc.

The winning argument is this: nobody loves the long winter, but it isn't THAT big of a deal. It just isn't. Look at all the FL, GA and even Alabama kids ... they're surviving. Focus instead on the stuff that matters -- you're making a choice that will impact the rest of your life.

Global warming can't get here fast enough. I say increase the tariffs on Chinese solar panels even more and burn that coal. Burn baby burn!

Right I want global warming so I can golf year round but if it helps with Michigan recruiting too then Im all for it. Its the reason I bought a diesel truck and why I spray a can of hair spray into the air every night before bed
