Any word on how long the weather delay is expected to be?

Michigan staff tells me players won’t hit the field until 12:15. 45-minute warmup with a goal of 1 PM kickoff. They may run a condensed broadcast, without commercials, aiming to get the game in during a clearer weather picture 1-3 PM.

And if this is more than a rumor OMG LACK OF COMMERCIALS!!!
October 6th, 2018 at 12:12 PM ^
I'm calling bullshit on no commercials. I'll believe that when I see it.
October 6th, 2018 at 12:31 PM ^
If that's true, I want t-storms every Saturday.
October 6th, 2018 at 12:07 PM ^
Until it stops raining
October 6th, 2018 at 11:39 AM ^
I'm guessing because of lightning?
October 6th, 2018 at 11:39 AM ^
What time?
October 6th, 2018 at 11:39 AM ^
ANN ARBOR -- Michigan's homecoming game will start in a delay.
Kickoff for today's game against Maryland (noon, ABC) has been "suspended" due to lightning strikes in Ann Arbor, according to a Michigan spokesman.
As of 11:15 a.m., gates to Michigan Stadium remained close due to nearby lightning strikes. They would open 1 hour prior to game time, a spokesman said.
It's been a wet and breezy morning in Ann Arbor, with storms moving in from the west. Players have not taken the field for pre-game warmups.

Have we always done this in college football? It seems to me like 5-10 years ago I never heard of games being postponed for really anything weather related. Now it happens all the time
October 6th, 2018 at 12:17 PM ^
We are having more severe thunderstorm events. Studies suggest linked to warming.

October 6th, 2018 at 12:31 PM ^
Sure. But my point was unless my memory is wrong, we never used to postpone games even for thunder--I remember games being played in thunderstorms.

There are boxers in the middle of your post.
October 6th, 2018 at 12:35 PM ^
So commercials have infiltrated our posts!
October 6th, 2018 at 11:40 AM ^
I'm on Stadium heading to my spot and I saw lightning less than a mile away. Wonderful
October 6th, 2018 at 11:43 AM ^
Just heard a massive thunderclap and I live half a mile from the stadium. Regular flashes of lightning. We'll be lucky if it doesn't get cancelled.
October 6th, 2018 at 12:05 PM ^
Lol the weather is almost passed.. they will play at some point today.
October 6th, 2018 at 12:33 PM ^
Its a thunderstorm not the apocalypse
October 6th, 2018 at 11:43 AM ^
I hate how the TV stations have manipulated times. We use to know all the kickoff times before the season started.
So I had to schedule an event either this weekend or next at 3PM. So I chose this weekend due to not knowing the Wisconsin kickoff time.
Now we have a weather delay and also now know Wisconsin is a night game. So I will likely miss the 2nd half of today's game when I could have just scheduled it next weekend had I known the kickoff of the Wisconsin game earlier.

Good thing you aren't in coastal Carolina.

You sure that's Gamera? Looks a lot like Testudo! /s
October 6th, 2018 at 11:45 AM ^
Looking at the radar there's a lot of lightning in the area. There's another storm off to the SW with lightning too that could cause a delay if it gets close enough.. This one might be a while.
October 6th, 2018 at 11:46 AM ^
That turtle gif is more upsetting than the game delay
October 6th, 2018 at 11:50 AM ^
It appears once this cell goes through AA we might be in the clear. Possibly an hour delay at most. I mean the game wouldn't totally be canclled would it? They could essentially still start the game at 7pm if they wanted to?
October 6th, 2018 at 11:57 AM ^
Line of storm cells back into Illinois.
October 6th, 2018 at 11:58 AM ^
It won’t be cancelled unless tornados show up. Without a catastrophic event it could be delayed as long as necessary for the weather to pass.
October 6th, 2018 at 12:07 PM ^
The issue is that it isn’t supposed to really “pass” completely until the middle of the night. I think it is feasible they have to do a weird “no crowd” situation. Crowd logistics is probably the #1 issue right now.
October 6th, 2018 at 11:52 AM ^
Naturally it rains when we're playing against turtles.
October 6th, 2018 at 11:59 AM ^
Just announced they are hoping for a 1:15 kick-off. Stadium still empty.
October 6th, 2018 at 12:02 PM ^
Guess I can go do my laundry then.
October 6th, 2018 at 11:59 AM ^
Based on the Weather Channel radar, first band of storms should end 12:45 pm so 1:45 pm should be the start.
October 6th, 2018 at 12:06 PM ^
My question is how they handle the broadcast of this game after kickoff time passes and the delay pushes into the window of another scheduled game. I expect they will move the game to another ESPN channel or keep it on ABC and move the next contest. But in any case, the network will have to decide how it plans to juggle broadcasting plans for the rest of the afternoon.
October 6th, 2018 at 12:12 PM ^
No commercials, no broadcast.
October 6th, 2018 at 12:13 PM ^
Yeah, that's my question too.
I'm in Chicagoland and the game is on ABC 7. We want to record the game & then watch it later tonight. We don't want to discover later that we didn't get 100% of the game on the DVR.
If I simply extend out & record the 30 minute post game show & also the Florida State vs. Miami game that is on ABC 7 after our game, will that be enough?
Or would they move all/part of the game to some ESPN alternative channel? If they do, where do we find that information so I can make sure to record the correct channel?
October 6th, 2018 at 12:04 PM ^
Jesus, the first thing the announcers are talking about in the MSU broadcast is MSU injuries. Weird how we never get that treatment?
October 6th, 2018 at 12:05 PM ^
Go Wildcats!!
October 6th, 2018 at 12:07 PM ^
Someone remind me how a canceled game affects the standings? If we finish tied on conference losses and a half game behind a team and would otherwise win the head-to-head tiebreaker do we win the division?
October 6th, 2018 at 12:09 PM ^
Per the twitterz kick off is slated for 1:15 I doubt they’ll cancel the game.
October 6th, 2018 at 12:37 PM ^
Unless we tie with Maryland or some other conference game gets cancelled we would not tie anyone. 8-1 beats 7-1. 7-1 beats 7-2.
October 6th, 2018 at 12:08 PM ^
Jesus Oklahoma is a machine. Kyler Murray is a stud.
October 6th, 2018 at 12:43 PM ^
That it is. Looks like most is now south and moving out. Hope no more lightening for several hours.
October 6th, 2018 at 12:10 PM ^
Sprinboks and All Blacks tied at the half in the meantime
October 6th, 2018 at 12:10 PM ^
Is the Stadium open yet?
October 6th, 2018 at 12:12 PM ^
Suppose to open at 12:30 for a 1:15 kick.
October 6th, 2018 at 12:14 PM ^
Watching Texas/Oklahoma. It’s hard to watch Oklahoma’s play calling and not feel depressed. Refreshing to see weaknesses attacked.
Also, great play by Texas safety to knock that completion out, however, if that was a Michigan safety they would have been ejected for targeting without question
