Have to say I never feel like I get as good a workout on an elipse as a treadmill.   The main reason I use treadmills is because I find significantly less pounding then outdoor running (but I will concur that outdoor running is much less boring).

07/12/2018 - 7:22pm Are you sure you lost them…

Are you sure you lost them as friends because of politics?     Based on this post, it isn’t shocking that they might think you’re kind of a judgementsl dick.

07/12/2018 - 7:48am It probably makes me a dick,…

It probably makes me a dick, but knowing it gets under your skin so much 1984 makes me want to make more political replies, not less.

07/12/2018 - 6:42am Or maybe its the summer and…

Or maybe its the summer and there is only so muxh one can talk about the left tackle position.

07/04/2018 - 11:12pm I’ve had my share of fun…

I’ve had my share of fun with fireworks and done some pretty stupid things with both bottle rockets and roman candles.   Don’t begrudge others doing the same, but they most definitely can hurt you.

07/02/2018 - 9:19pm Or maybe we should make an…

Or maybe we should make an independent judgement about whether it’s something we are proud of and then root for those things we are proud of.

I’d be a lot less concerned if we followed a consistent norm on how the country worked

I thought people might be thinking ai was hyperbolic in comparing a Supreme Court justice to the Unabomber

07/02/2018 - 3:34pm Gotta upvote anyone who…

Gotta upvote anyone who manages to criticize Scott Pruitt on Mgoblog regardless of the topic

07/02/2018 - 3:27pm For me, it absolutely…

For me, it absolutely tarnishes it and I make no apologies for that fact.   I certainly however understand how there are some (and quite possibly many) who think its great to have another Supreme Court justice from U of M regardless of the ideology.

i also think its great that we live in a country that allows for us to have such differences in opinion.

07/02/2018 - 3:21pm I’m not sure how you judge…

I’m not sure how you judge the OPs intent, but if one wanted to start a post on how fucking awesome UM Law is and how our university continues to put out the best and brightest across the spectrum of careers, they could have done a much better job.

Maybe something like - the fact that U Of M has so many distinguished alum (see this great list frim the alumni society -  and may even be sble to claim as an alum shows how fucking awesome UM Law is and how our university continues to put out the best and brightest.

if instead one wanted to start a discussion about the relative merits of the next Supreme Court justice while pretending to do it in a no political way, the posters approach - intended or not, was spot on.

07/02/2018 - 3:09pm I understand that there are…

I understand that there are people who would celebrate a Supreme Court Judge from U of M. I also understand that there are other people (like me, who would only find it worthy of celebration if I thought that judge would generally be good - which not surprisingly is likely to be correlated with whether I thought his/her decisions would be good.   I also understand that other people might not care at all.

You appeear to be in the first camp and I don’t begrudge you that opinion at all.   I disagree with it, but I don’t begrudge it.   As you say, there is nothing wrong with being excited one of our own for making it to the pinnacle of his profession.

Similarly there is nothing wrong with falling in camps 2 or 3.  The answer of whether you should think that having a Supreme Court Judge is good or bad is not a fact.

07/02/2018 - 2:50pm Facts should not be…

Facts should not be political.   Discussion of whether that fact is good or bad can certainly be political.   Donald Trump is President, Barack Obama was president.   Both factts.   Isn’t Donald Trump a good President or wasn’t obama a good president much more political.

It is hard to see how one cannot understand that posting a fact on a message board which is by its very nature supposed to invite comment on a post might generate value judgements about that fact.    But I’m sire you are well aware of that.

07/02/2018 - 2:20pm I don’t find it a sad state…

I don’t find it a sad state of affairs that people might prefer to evaluate whether or not it would actually be a positive accomplishment before appreciating said accomplishment.

if, to give a non-political example an engineer from Michigan was responsible for some significantly bad engineering event (maybe he was the head of engineering for some large firm and signed off on a design that resulted in many deaths?) would you want to appreciate the accomplishment for the University of that engineer holding such an important position?

07/01/2018 - 4:35pm If we ignore all of his…

If we ignore all of his previous coaching stops, maybe.   But if you also consider the job he did iat Stanford and San Diego, it is more than that.  Also, Hoke only managed to go 5-7 with his kids and then Harbaugh turned them around to 10-3.   Further, Jake Tudock, a Harbaugh kid was a pretty important piece of the puzzle.

07/01/2018 - 1:30pm To me, the coaching blunder…

To me, the coaching blunder in the MSU game wasn’t the lack of max protect, it was the fact that the punter wasn’t coaced to fall on the damn ball.

07/01/2018 - 10:34am In the last 50 years,…

In the last 50 years, Michigan has three losing records.  Rich Rod has two.   Hoke has one.    That doesn’t sound like overachieving.    The only year I think you can say Harbaugh underachieved was last yesr.   He still went 7-5.    Based on this admiitedly subjective analysis, any methodology that ranks Harbaugh lower than those two, regaurdless of whether the methodology is clear and it is based in stats seems suspect,

I was just hoping for something like this.  I’ll upvote youand anyone who keeps it up

05/29/2018 - 10:26pm Odoms had 443

And Mathews had 409. Think we’ll have to go further back

05/23/2018 - 8:21pm A double post

Worthy of repeating

05/17/2018 - 9:18pm Rudock didn’t have spring practice

Paterson has much more time to learn the playbook, develop rapport with his team-mates etc. than Rudock did.

05/17/2018 - 9:07pm I didn’t click on Talking Cars Tuesday for a long time

Then I did - way better than I expected

05/11/2018 - 6:15pm By third year

Are you referring to the fact that he was an early enrollee? Because he is only a redshirt sophomore this coning season. He has three more years of eligibility and has only seen the field in one season.

While I personally am a huge fan of McCaffrey, it’s worth remembering that the last qb to lead us to a national championship didn’t throw a single pass hs redshirt freshman year. I think it might be a touch early to write Peters off.

05/11/2018 - 6:04pm My upvote is on the love child

i’ll leave the first part of the comment alone. But if Maizen wants to demonstrate a sense of humor he’ll have a new avatar reflecting this comment (wish I was gifted enough to provide one)

05/08/2018 - 7:40pm I think you are refering to the 105 for summer camp

I believe once classes start roster size is unlimited.

05/03/2018 - 11:29am Why are you apologizing to the Byrds?

Isn’t I can See for Miles a Who Song?

05/02/2018 - 10:43pm I’m not sure these are all separate mistakes

1. Isn’t the second half of 1 - switching rushing scemes miidway though the year actually a correction to a mistake, not a mistake?

2. Doesn’t this go back to two coaches and two much other stuff to teach that really goes back to one?

3. Still directly related to 1. The reason there was no WR coach is because a coaching position was taken up by the second OL spot.

4. A failure but not so much a mistake. I don’t think he said lets not recruit great OTs, they just failed at it.

04/21/2018 - 11:09am Chris Hinton and Nolan Rumler would like a word with you

It’s April.

04/17/2018 - 9:03pm Hudson played both OT and DT in HS

And he started focusing on OT shortly after coming to Michigan. That doesn’t sound like a converted DT to me. It sounds like a guy who could have played either position who they put at OT.

04/15/2018 - 11:51am It matters more when players are younger

I expect the improvement from players like Ruiz to be greater than the improvement from players like Ruiz.

04/15/2018 - 12:52am Iquestion whether LT can even be the same

It’s hard to replace a 4 year starter

04/15/2018 - 12:52am Iquestion whether LT can even be the same

It’s hard to replace a 4 year starter

04/14/2018 - 11:18pm I agree with everything except

Your confidence that left tackle will be an upgrade

1. Cornerbacks - same guys one more year of experience - realistic upgrade
2. Lineackers - Have to replace McCray - not a stretch to think an upgrade
3. Defensive ends - same guys one more year of experience - realistic upgrade (especially in depth
4. Defensive tackles - as noted hard not to expect Hurst to be missed - even though we should still be good
5. Safeties - same guys one more year of experience - realistic upgrade
6. Wide recievers - one more year of experience, actual position coach and hopefully fullyhealthy Black - most likely spot for upgrade on the team
7. Tight ends - same guys, one more year of experience and full time position coach - likely upgrade
8. Quarterback - If Paterson - clear upgrade, if not hopefully year of experience is still some upgrade
9. Running backs - largely same - realistc same
10. Fullbacks - definite loss of depth - realistc same assuming Mason is healthy
11. Interior line - potential for real upgrade if Ruiz is real deal
12. Offensive tackles - we could be alright, but this is where you really have to hope coaching changes payoff because we’re counting on returners who did’t look great and redshirt freshmen to repace a 4 year starter (who granted spent most of that time out of position). However even if left tackle remains a weakness, likely improvement at the other offensive line positions, wide reciever and hopefully quarterback should still make for a better offense

04/14/2018 - 10:46pm Carr was 11-2in 2006

Which was pretty late in his career

03/28/2018 - 1:08am I don’t think Harbaugh is being disingenuous

I think he means exactly what he is saying. In December, Speight would have been given a 5th year no doubt about it. At this point, I can’t believe it is not a mutual decision. If natural attrition does not get us down to 84 and Harbaugh has already offered other 5th year seniors an option to come back, I would not be surprised if Speight is shit out of luck. There is nothing disingenious about being open to something and then deciding against it.

03/28/2018 - 12:55am Do you remember how many years it took Beilein

“To set the bar that high”/. Beilein had losing seasons in two of his first three years. I think John Beilein is a great coach, but I suspect that if we are lucky enough to have Harbaugh around for 11 years, he will have even more success than Beilein has.

03/28/2018 - 12:13am Only one may be because of Speight

But you can’t even get to the conversation about the one you need to get rid of until you get rid of the ones that get you down to 85.

03/27/2018 - 8:16pm Not an expert on the roster numbers

So you could be right, but the MGoblog roster suggests 87 scholarship players which I believe means 2. Also not an english expert but I believe 2 is in fact multiple. While 2 is not abnormal attrition, it isn’t gauranteed. My only point is that I doubt at this point it is solely Speight’s choice. I suspect Harbaugh has something to say about it.

03/27/2018 - 7:12pm Harbaugh has to offer him a fifth year

since that would mean not inviting back multiple 5th year players or having other attrition, it really isn’t entirely Speight’s decision at this point.

03/11/2018 - 4:58pm Only if you’ll have kids in 2100

03/10/2018 - 6:46pm If Bredenson was going to be a tackle

Wouldn’t he already be one? Runyan could have played gaurd last year moving Bredenson out to tackle.

03/09/2018 - 1:40pm you must really hate driving

to fly so somewhere you can drive in three hours.

03/09/2018 - 1:21pm Or if you’re going somewhere where driving tales similar or less

Does flying really factor in for trips of less than 3 or 4 hours?

03/09/2018 - 1:09pm Would it make sense to have the big ten tournament in Las Vegas?

It is not clear to me why geographic proximty to more fans is not a self evident important criteria. Its obviosly not the only criteria. If it wan’t a reasonable criteria, the big ten tournament wouldn;t be in Cicago and Indianapolis so much.

03/09/2018 - 1:02pm I suspect the quality of the team

Had more to do with it than the fans.
