Nebraska AD (previously) said UM, OSU "running a little bit scared"
He later called it "a bit tongue and [sic] cheek," but it's funny to see what Bill Moos said a few months ago. https://www.landgrantholyland.com/2018/4/25/17278726/nebraska-ad-claims-ohio-state-is-scared-hahaha

Nebraska's quarterbacks were running A LOT scared yesterday.
BTW, I wonder what happened with that commit watch. Are we still on commit watch?

I personally like Scott frost I think it’s great he’s in the big ten he’s a great coach and hopefully has a great future at Nebraska. We need the big ten west to get better. Unfortunately if he never boosts recruiting he will never be better than 4th in the big ten. During the game i was thinking if we scored 59 just think what osu is gonna do to them
September 23rd, 2018 at 9:27 AM ^
OSU will score 40.
September 23rd, 2018 at 9:32 AM ^
OSU won't play 78 players on their roster, and Meyer will leave his 1st string in for 3 quarters. So of course they will score more just to run the score up. That's what Meyer does.
We could have easily dropped 70 on them if we left our starters in until the 4th quarter.
September 23rd, 2018 at 9:50 AM ^
Or if the refs called any of the blatant PI calls on our bombs. There were at least 3 of those instances.
September 23rd, 2018 at 10:12 AM ^
Have to get used to it though. Do you honestly believe those will get called in EL or Columbus?
September 23rd, 2018 at 4:21 PM ^
Nope. Football officiating in general has gotten worse with each layer of supposed clarity added. Adding specifics to rules or video review doesn't change anything when the same idiots who don't know the rules don't suddenly remember them when looking again. Also, literally no one knows wtf targeting is let alone when to enforce it.
September 23rd, 2018 at 9:53 AM ^
To be fair, whatever he's doing is clearly working -- whether we like his style or not. After getting (somewhat) snubbed from the playoffs last year, he has even more of a reason to run up scores. His lobbying helped get Florida in the NC over Michigan in 2006. Lobbying and running scores up is working for him. It's not exactly the most "gentleman" thing to do, but it's not illegal either.
September 23rd, 2018 at 12:34 PM ^
Correct...
His preference for criminal activity includes hiding info on Aaron Hernandez drug tests and deleting texts from a domestic violence "investigation".
September 23rd, 2018 at 9:54 AM ^
Scott Frost is a tool, and the way he poorly prepared his team, and the fact that they basically just gave up yesterday and showed no character or fight, was a disgrace.
Good luck, Cornhuskers. Enjoy your new coach and team.
September 23rd, 2018 at 10:01 AM ^
They weren't poorly prepared, they were over matched talent wise. They have a very young team and 1 scholarship QB, who isn't healthy. He is a good coach, and will give Wisconsin all they can handle going forward. As we can attest to, if your offense can't get the defense any rest, it will catch up to you. Michigan is good and getting better every game. This might be the 1st Jim Harbaugh team that peaks in November.
September 23rd, 2018 at 10:09 AM ^
Our team played very well. But you are wrong - the Cornhuskers gave up, and they were not prepared. It was pathetic.
September 23rd, 2018 at 11:35 AM ^
Not prepared, or just not very good? Does it really matter? They haven't won a game this year, and they have been fighting internally for 2 weeks now. Use which ever cliche that makes you feel better, but there is no denying they aren't a good football team.
September 23rd, 2018 at 10:14 AM ^
It didn’t “catch up” to Nebraska’s defense. They were demolished right out of the gate.
September 23rd, 2018 at 10:25 AM ^
"giving up" is such a terrible cliche analysis in a blowout. Nebraska was overmatched in speed, talent and strength. The biggest surprise to me was just how physically weak Nebraska was on the lines and particularly the edges. We mauled them.
Nebraska scored a TD late and made a defensive stop mid 4thQ, thats not giving up.
September 23rd, 2018 at 10:32 AM ^
Thank you. This “giving up” meme is getting tiresome.
September 23rd, 2018 at 10:45 AM ^
well, the defensive players were calling each other out late in the game. a fight broke out between a few of the players. a lot of pushing, shoving, and yelling. i sat 5 rows behind their bench and witnessed it.
that team may be broken.
September 23rd, 2018 at 11:47 AM ^
Now hold on there. If we eliminated tiresome meme posts, we'd eliminate about 25% of Board commentary.
September 23rd, 2018 at 12:39 PM ^
Do it!!!
September 23rd, 2018 at 11:30 AM ^
We gave up a late td against mostly 3rd stringers and UNL made a defensive stop against 2nd/3rd stringers. I guess they kinda hung in there and battled, if you say so. But the UM players disagree with your notion:
"After the first series, when we went back out there, we just knew they wanted to give up. You could just see it in their eyes.” —Michigan safety Josh Metellus on Nebraska
"It just seemed like they really didn't want to be out there at some points," Michigan defensive end Chase Winovich said.
Edit - replying to blueinlansing
September 23rd, 2018 at 10:37 AM ^
We could have scored 70+ and kept NU out of the end zone, had our 3s and 4s been watching from the sideline instead of gaining valuable PT.
September 23rd, 2018 at 9:28 AM ^
This would be a perfect time to post the Ray Liotta laughing gif from Goodfellas.

Good advice:
Do your lady a favor...wash your willie!
September 23rd, 2018 at 9:29 AM ^
Michigan is running all right, but they are not running scared, they are running all over a ridiculously overmatched Nebraska team. Nebraska football is quickly making itself into an embarrassing caricature. It is all very entertaining to me. Scott frost may be the best thing that ever happened to the 2018 Michigan football season. Thank you Scott. Please give us more quotes before the Michigan State and Ohio State games.
September 23rd, 2018 at 9:36 AM ^
“You’ve got Urban Meyer and Jim Harbaugh thinking, ‘We better put a little more into that Nebraska game coming up.’ And that’s the way we want it. They’re running a little bit scared right now. And they won’t admit it. We’ll leave that at that.”
Yeah, they sure showed us alright. They had us on the ropes for at least one pass.
September 24th, 2018 at 7:16 AM ^
They had us on the ropes for at least one pass.
I know this is tongue-in-cheek, but I think it's awesome to point out that even this comment isn't really accurate. It's been a long time since I've seen us come out and just manhandle somebody the way we did the Huskers on Saturday. That was fun.
September 23rd, 2018 at 9:47 AM ^
I remember him saying that about OSU in the summer but not Michigan, (which made sense since we hadn’t played in 4 years until yesterday.)
It was an embarrassing comment seeing that OSU beat them last year 56-14 and it was even more lopsided the year before that.
And f*ck you, Nebraska’s AD, for making me defend OSU. That’s like defending Hitler.
September 23rd, 2018 at 9:48 AM ^
It was a dumb comment then, and it's an even dumber comment now.
But athletic directors are known to get a bit over their skis from time to time.
September 23rd, 2018 at 10:10 AM ^
Dave Brandon's skis were actually week-old slices of shitty pizza.
September 23rd, 2018 at 11:35 AM ^
That pizza is such garbage it could be day old and used as skies.
September 23rd, 2018 at 10:28 AM ^
This is the same guy who had everyone believing the Big Ten was going back to 8 conference games. He had to change his tune after the AD meeting.
September 23rd, 2018 at 9:50 AM ^
I do believe Frost will have Nebraska up and running within the next few years, but as he and their AD realized yesterday, they have a LONG way to go.
September 23rd, 2018 at 10:19 AM ^
Agree, they dont have a ton of talent and cant match up with a team like Michigan right now, Hes putting a new system in and they arent going to be good this year. I hope they beat State tho
September 23rd, 2018 at 9:59 AM ^
Whelp....If yesterday is what running scared looks like, I hope we remain truly frightened for the rest of the season.
September 23rd, 2018 at 10:02 AM ^
Have to admire their optimism...though a little thought revision now obviously in order
September 23rd, 2018 at 10:12 AM ^
Make no mistake Nebraska will be very good in short order. Just in time for them to be a regular opponent from the west. Delaney hates Michigan and always gives us the top west teams like WI and NE.
September 23rd, 2018 at 10:16 AM ^
Make no mistake - I hope he puts those pansy ass Cornholes on the schedule every year. They sucked and will suck for several years to come...
September 23rd, 2018 at 10:31 AM ^
Didn't we just start playing Wisconsin again after missing them for 5-6 years in a row?
September 23rd, 2018 at 10:15 AM ^
He certainly had this board running scared before the game.
Some of you guys really need to back off the ledge.
September 23rd, 2018 at 10:42 AM ^
It wasn't that long ago that we were like Nebraska. We were overmatched with slower and weaker players than the opposition. It's nice to be on the other side of it finally but not without alot of pain and doubt.
September 23rd, 2018 at 10:51 AM ^
After yesterday's game the only thing I'm scared about is how much damage Nebraska's butt did to our foot.
September 23rd, 2018 at 10:56 AM ^
The AD said a dumb bravado guy thing...it happens.
That being said if Harbaugh ever took a powder Scott Frost would be on my short list of coaches to get...there I said it!
He's an evangelist for his team who can hate that?
September 23rd, 2018 at 11:08 AM ^
I didn’t seem to think they were giving up. I sat next to 4 Nebraska fans who gave up but were pretty knowledgeable. They seemed to think that after they got down so big so fast, the players and coaches were trying to work on things in game and use the live reps to get better at individual and small things and not worry about the score. I would have to agree with that.
September 23rd, 2018 at 11:37 AM ^
Interesting perspective. Thanks for relaying that.
September 23rd, 2018 at 12:02 PM ^
I don't care for Frost, but even on the chance that he's a capable guy, there's a chance this whole thing could go very wrong for him. Every lopsided loss this year shortens his leash in the future even if it's a 'transition' and all that.
No matter how you slice it, you going in front of the media to explain why you just got your ass handed to you by pointing at the predecessor and the kids already there when you arrived is a bad look. It's one of the laziest tropes of college football to begin with. Riley's heritage wasn't a 2 win team, and if Frost ends up with one then that's almost certainly because of his complete disregard for what he found in place there. It's tempting to buy yourself time..but is it worth alienating your current players and everyone close to them, like say their HS coaches?
Fans will allow for that as long as the team very soon thereafter becomes exactly what Frost promised them to be. But this is a Nebraska that thinks it should be in the playoffs year-in year-out even though in reality they slot right into the Iowa position in the Big Ten. So there's a very high chance that Frost will not deliver on those particular expectations either in year 3 or 4.
The dirty secret here is that it's easier to win at UCF than at Nebraska. UCF is in a weaker conference, and sits right in the middle of an extremely fertile recruiting ground. If you're that kind of driven, ambitious, upward trajectory type young coach, UCF is a fantastic opportunity because if any of those kids buy what you're selling you're gonna have a kickass team. Nebraska meanwhile struggles to recruit Florida, Texas, Cali, Ohio, Mid-Atlantic etc.
I guess the conceit is 'maybe they can do it like Wisconsin!' except of course it took ages to entrench Wisconsin as the program they're now and in many ways they're still feeding off that building job by Alvarez. Give it a decade and Wisconsin will have their 'falling from grace' moment anyway. But they do have a significant structural advantage over Nebraska because they're not in an empty state surrounded by mostly empty states. Even if Frost is a capable coach he likely will still fail and every loss like yesterday sows a few seeds of his ultimate failure.
September 23rd, 2018 at 5:44 PM ^
I agree with you. I do not think it is at all assured that Frost will return Nebraska to contending status. He'd better re-establish their old Texas recruiting connection from the Osborne days (unlikely IMO) or create a pipeline from Florida and he's got a ton of competition there. As you say, it is a lot easier to win at Central Florida.
