Urban Myer: I did not know; I did not lie; I merely mismanaged ZS
Am I the only one hearing about this? Myer tweeted a statement clarifying why he was suspended.
Dude, you won! Just STFU!

Maybe he's that first person who is successfully treated for Alzheimer's that they talk about in the commercial. WAIT, Pope Urban wants to know if the treatment is for "selected memory loss"? Zebra's don't change their stripes!

Urban Meyer = Pathological liar
August 31st, 2018 at 12:31 PM ^
Proving once again that it doesn't matter whether you are someone who doesn't give a shit what people think or someone who must be loved and adored, when you get on twitter it doesn't look good.

Nothing about his phone.
I heard something yesterday about Meyer's attorney making a statement to the effect that Meyer did not delete anything from his phone in connection with this investigation, but I am not seeing any real reporting on it. Anybody else see that? Unfortunately, I think it is the same lawyer who offered up the rotten statement that Meyer and Smith were "two great men who fell on the sword for a University they dearly love."
August 31st, 2018 at 12:38 PM ^
I heard something to that effect too. The report I heard was that Urban Myer's agent told him two women were on their over and they needed his phone for about four hours. So, that statement might very well be true. If someone else does the dirty work then you're clean, right??
August 31st, 2018 at 1:29 PM ^
Not sure if this is true.
The attorneys from the Ropes & Gray firm imaged/preserved Meyer’s cell so they could have a record of all the information. If they deleted messages they risked being disbarred. Conry btw is a former federal prosecutor. 2/2

The question is when was it "preserved"? After he asked how to delete texts that are a year or older? Most likely, so that means nothing.
August 31st, 2018 at 4:12 PM ^
I've now been refreshed on where that notion came from; that Meyer didn't delete anything.
It was a Tweet from Tim May of the Dispatch.
I normally like Tim May; with Doug Lesmerises they are one of the best newspaper teams covering any B1G program. But May's Tweet is now raising more questions. Where was there any information about the phone, from Meyer, or from Meyer's attorney today, and on the record? Where was the presumed Friday story in the Dispatch about what May was told by the attorney?

Love the first reply to his statement.

But 73-8. And TTUN.
August 31st, 2018 at 12:35 PM ^
What about that whole erasing text messages thing, Urban? And thanks for introducing the term “deliberate lie” into the lexicon, which we may now contrast with the “inadvertent lie,” which they seem to have concluded you were guilty of. I always thought a lie implied knowing falsity, but OSU seems to have developed a more sophisticated take on the meaning of the word.

"You see, my heart was acting up, so I had to take my memory loss pills, and then write my apology for my most recent apology statement, all while visiting some former players of mine in prison. All of this made me just mismanage ZS, not lie about it."

Urban Meyer mismanaged Zach Smith the same way gravity mismanaged Zach Smith's testicles.
August 31st, 2018 at 12:46 PM ^
The board needs more uplifting comments like this.
August 31st, 2018 at 1:04 PM ^
To be fair, gravity had a plan for his testicles, but Zach Smith had other plans.
OSU: You don’t cross Zach Smith, gravity.
Gravity: Why am I being lost in all of this?
Urban: Give me until next Friday to craft my reply.

Have to give ZS credit for going the extra mile to take corrective action with the jock suspenders.
August 31st, 2018 at 12:37 PM ^
The damn report doesn't lie. It made him look WORSE.
Nothing that he says will excuse what really happened & what will be waiting for him upon his return. The media will eat him alive & then we'll get the "I don't recall" comments.
August 31st, 2018 at 12:38 PM ^
I am waiting for another statement explaining this statement from the PR department.

Urban Meyer: "I haven't learned a thing."

If you have to tell us what you are, you probably aren't.
August 31st, 2018 at 12:53 PM ^
No mater what conclusion you reach about who knew what when, it is unavoidable that Urban Meyer's biggest lapse of judgment was his loyalty to Zach Smith, which was not a one time thing but a long-running series of mistakes
.
August 31st, 2018 at 12:54 PM ^
Bingo, you nailed it on the head.
August 31st, 2018 at 6:17 PM ^
His biggest lapse in judgement may have been keeping Smith. While he says it was because of loyalty, he is also known to lie. So maybe it was because of loyalty, but that is not certain.
August 31st, 2018 at 6:19 PM ^
His biggest lapse of judgement was deciding that he didn't have to follow federal law, OSU regulations, and the requirements of his own contract. He decided that, instead, he got to be "the decider." He still thinks that his judgement trumps the law.

Washington Post article on OSU/Meyer coverup
"The batch of memos that Ohio State dropped on its website Tuesday are incomplete, with more to come, but they fully illustrate how weak-handed Meyer was with a louse and delinquent. His longtime coddling of assistant coach Zach Smith, the accused domestic abuser and Twitter rager, is merely in keeping with his previous record at Florida, where 30 players were arrested in six seasons. But what’s amazing about these latest details is how vividly damning they are despite Ohio State’s attempt to muffle them, the institutional coverup covering for the coach’s coverup.”
August 31st, 2018 at 1:17 PM ^
My favorite quote from the article (I did not realize NO ONE cooperated with the investigation):
Think about that: Investigators could not access relevant records from Ohio State’s athletic director, head coach, chief of football operations or the assistant coach at the center of the scandal. To a man, they are paid by state money. And subject to public records laws.
August 31st, 2018 at 2:38 PM ^
It's baffling to me that their fan base continues to state it's mainly Michigan or B1G fans who are behind the ongoing hate/backlash .. when time after time different media outlets write how fucked up the situation is & that they can't let the story die off.

The liar's paradox: I am a liar and everything I say is a lie. Now, "I did not lie.....I merely mismanaged ZS"
August 31st, 2018 at 4:28 PM ^
wait. how did he mismanage ZS, if he never heard of any wrongdoing from him? saying he mismanaged ZS conveys that he knew all of the bs and chose to protect the pos anyway. that was the mismanagement.

In today’s episode of “How big of a sociopath can I be today?” We feature our lead character: Urban Meyer
August 31st, 2018 at 1:08 PM ^
The way Urban Meyer has acted throughout this entire saga is a big reason, unfortunately, why he's been such a successful head coach in terms of wins and losses. He refuses to back down. He returns every punch with a punch of his own, and he's not going to let up until he feels he's won. I'm not trying to defend him in any way here; it's just that this competitive nature we're seeing - as ugly as it is, considering what it's all about - is a bit of a glimpse into why the man has been able to win so many games and bring in the best players. And until the college game makes some changes, these types of men will continue to succeed.
August 31st, 2018 at 1:18 PM ^
It’s never going to change man. Being that way gets you to the Oval Office or the head of giant corporations, or the head of crime syndicates, or the head of a championship winning program. I wish I could say one of these is not like the others but unfortunately I can’t. Unfortunately these people are incapable of not being that way. It’s just the way they were made.
August 31st, 2018 at 7:27 PM ^
A big reason, maybe. But, there are also a lot of unsuccessful people who return every punch. Just look at Zack Smith. To be in a position like Urban you have to also be surrounded by enablers to be able to continue to return every punch. Zack Smith no longer is. Urban's time will come one day, just like many other successful coaches who finally lost their enabling support.
Conversely there are a lot of honest and upstanding successful people too who don't need to surround themselves with enablers.

this makes me wonder if he's pissed at OSU and that's why he's out there doing his own bidding on twitter.
this whole statement reeks. "I stand by my apologies, but I'm not really sorry because I didn't do nothin wrong."
Sorrynotsorry.
August 31st, 2018 at 3:20 PM ^
"his makes me wonder if he's pissed at OSU"
You need to wonder that? Did you even watch the presser? Beyond the body language and very forced statement, watching the Gene Smith eye roll during the President's statement was priceless.

Someone needs to tell urban..... when you realize you're just digging yourself a hole, the first thing you should do is PUT DOWN THE SHOVEL.
Narcissistic personality disorder..... he will never stop trying to convince everyone that his lies are the truth. Sadly, he believes they are.
