Actually, it's just that they respond better to politically insensitive language. It's a quirk of the position.

03/28/2018 - 11:49am He's not reaching; it's right

He's not reaching; it's right there: Sparty's emphasis on "toughness" comes off as childish.

03/28/2018 - 11:44am Carlsen's characterization of

Carlsen's characterization of So seems accurate: Against the upper elite, he plays it very safe and goes for the draws; then he tries to get his points from inferior opponments. The strategy works well sometimes but not that well: you'll never win a Candidates tournament with it.

03/28/2018 - 11:41am The "Minister of Defense" is

The "Minister of Defense" is very good, don't get me wrong. I just think his style of play is less dynamic than some of the other candidates, such as Aronian and Caruana. Against Carlsen I think he was just trying to wear him out with draws, whereas Caruana will go for wins when it's there.

I think you speak for us all, pkatz.

03/28/2018 - 11:09am I'm so happy for Caruana. He

I'm so happy for Caruana. He came so close in the last Candidates Tournament (2016), missing out by half a point (IIRC). It would have been great for (American) chess since the Championship match took place in New York that year. Anyhow, I'm relieved we don't have to go through Carlsen-Karjakin again.

THE Macallan. It's like with Ohio State, you have to include the the, haha

02/26/2018 - 3:55pm You'll have to get it soon,

You'll have to get it soon, since the 8-year is a limited edition. I lilked it very much; it's lighter (in appearance and taste) than the 16 but still has the peat taste you expect from Lagavulin. It reminded me of a calmer Laphroaig 10. That being said, it's unfair to compare it to the robust 16-year, which is really an all-time great whisky.

02/26/2018 - 9:34am Explore Lowlands whiskies,

Explore Lowlands whiskies, they tend to be calmer and milder. Glenkinchie 12, for example, is light and floral, as is stuff from Auchentoshan.

Also smooth and friendly and affordable (around $60): Highland Park 12, The Dalmore 12, Balvenie 12.

I recommend trying to appreciate the drink straight. Once your palate adjusts, you will reap the rewards.

02/26/2018 - 8:55am I disagree. For me, at least,

I disagree. For me, at least, bourbon tastes smoother, and not in a good way. It just tastes syrupy and lacking in character.

02/26/2018 - 8:44am I'm pretty sure the Lagavulin

I'm pretty sure the Lagavulin Distillers never has an age statement.

I give us a 30% chance of winning that game. As usual, Sparty will have one trick guaranteed-touchdown play that D'Antoniuso spent the better part of a year dreaming up, and that play might be the difference.

02/15/2018 - 12:24pm I guess I like how the voice

I guess I like how the voice of the blog serves as a kind of barometer for the mood of fans. Brian isn't going to cover a demoralizing, underwhelming end to a demoralizing, underwhelming season as if such games aren't soul-numbing. It's not going to be business as usual on MgoBlog. When I saw the title "Whatever" after the bowl game, I was like, Yup, pretty much. This voice is part of what differentiates this blog from others.

Still sticking to the script, huh. Oh well, I guess there are worse things in life than reading about how great D'anantonio is from a "Michigan" fan.
