UM has 1 on All American team... from the D... and it isnt your first guess
Badgers have four first-team All Americans. Two on their O Line.
http://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/24391066/college-footba…
We get one -- from the D. Immediately I assumed it was the obvious guy, then realized, there are two obvious guys, and it's the other obvious guy -- Devin Bush.

I'm not surprised. The DL talent across the country is crazy this year.
August 21st, 2018 at 3:17 PM ^
Yeah this should be one of the deepest DL drafts ever. And Gary's class in particular has been insane from the jump in terms of top end DL talent. Can't wait for kickoff
August 21st, 2018 at 4:33 PM ^
Basically, Gary is too short/slow for the 2019 draft class. He needs to wait another year for the draft.
August 21st, 2018 at 4:58 PM ^
I agree. I don't know why anyone would think Gary is ready for the NFL. He didn't lead anything in sacks, TFLs, or pressures last year! He needs to come back so he can improve that much more.
August 21st, 2018 at 2:14 PM ^
I would have assumed Bush.
August 21st, 2018 at 2:25 PM ^
These days I actually assume no Bush. Always a bit disappointed when it's Bush, but as long as there's no dreadlocks I can live with it.
August 21st, 2018 at 2:37 PM ^
There’s nothing better than a nice, trimmed down bush...
August 21st, 2018 at 2:39 PM ^
If by nothing you mean "no bush," then yes, you're correct.
August 21st, 2018 at 3:06 PM ^
Sorry to disappoint you guys but that Bush is yoked.
August 21st, 2018 at 2:14 PM ^
This seems like Deja Vu..... all over again. Wasn't this news a week or so ago?
August 21st, 2018 at 2:22 PM ^
A.) Yes, this is rehashed from last week.
B.) OP could be much more descriptive in the title referencing this is 1 ESPN STAFF (whom I have never heard of before) writer's assemblage of said 'All American team'
August 21st, 2018 at 2:39 PM ^
It's certainly deja vu, but not deja vu all over again.
August 21st, 2018 at 2:52 PM ^
Because DJV "all over again" would be redundant.
And it would be redundant to say "DJV all over again."
August 21st, 2018 at 3:38 PM ^
Its a Yogi Berra quote.....Fergodsakes
August 21st, 2018 at 8:05 PM ^
If you come to a fork in the road, pick it up
August 21st, 2018 at 10:06 PM ^
If you come to a fork in the road, take it.
August 21st, 2018 at 2:16 PM ^
Makes sense I suppose. Bosa vs Gary is definitely an argument where I'm biased towards Gary but Bosa is undoubtedly very good and ESPN loves him. And Clemson's D-line is pretty much top in the nation. I'm more surprised one of David Long or Lavert Hill didn't make it on there. They're consistently rated one of the best in the country but it also seems like they're the forgotten gems of our defense.
August 21st, 2018 at 3:44 PM ^
I wouldn't be surprised if Zordich goes around to every publication in the country and scratches out Hill and Long's names from their lists. Gotta keep them motivated.
August 21st, 2018 at 3:55 PM ^
And all the other teams' offensive coordinators can go right on forgetting about Long and Hill. "Man, that D-line! We better get the ball out quick. Dang! They got an All-American at both corners playing press coverage?!"
August 21st, 2018 at 2:25 PM ^
That is according to ESPN, there are numerous pre and post season All-American lists.
August 21st, 2018 at 2:26 PM ^
False. It was my first guess.
August 21st, 2018 at 2:30 PM ^
Im guessing your first thought was "hmm he wants me to think Rashan Gary, but im going to say Devin Bush Jr)
So i will say the OP is correct, you thought of Rashan Gary first
August 21st, 2018 at 2:53 PM ^
Unfortunately, you're also wrong.
August 21st, 2018 at 2:28 PM ^
You mean 1 First Team All-American? I thought Gary made Second Team...
https://collegefootball.ap.org/article/ap-preseason-all-america-team
ESPN sucks
August 21st, 2018 at 2:36 PM ^
Blergh. It's espn fluff.
August 21st, 2018 at 2:37 PM ^
I am fine with that. Just going to motivate Gary even more to destroy everyone in his path.
August 21st, 2018 at 2:42 PM ^
Hit the bag.
August 21st, 2018 at 2:39 PM ^
The fewer preseason accolades we get, the better. Few things are more destructive to young athletes than having smoke blown up their asses about how good they are before they've actually done anything.
August 21st, 2018 at 2:47 PM ^
Disagree in most cases. Sure, if you're Johnny Manziel, it would probably have done you good to hear that you're god's gift to mankind a little less often...
But for most people, if you're good you deserve to be acknowledged. You don't get on preseason lists without a reason.
Also, having a lot of players being recognized helps recruiting.
AND, unfortunately, this kind of bullshit can make a difference when getting drafted.
August 21st, 2018 at 4:28 PM ^
Pre-season praise doesn't help anybody, and its relevance to recruiting is dwarfed by how the season actually plays out, and how well individual players actually do in those games.
The notion that being on pre-season lists helps a player in the draft is laughable. NFL scouts don't give a crap about lists—they're going to be looking at 40 times and combine performances and game film.
August 21st, 2018 at 3:53 PM ^
For some people, yes. But from what I have seen, that's not an issue for Gary. Seems to be a team leader and self-motivated. People have been telling him he's #1 for years and it hasn't slowed him down.
August 21st, 2018 at 2:49 PM ^
My first guess is Bush.
August 21st, 2018 at 2:52 PM ^
Wasn't he an All-American last year? That honestly was my first guess.
August 21st, 2018 at 2:56 PM ^
First team All-American viper position:
Khaleke Hudson.
Second team All-American viper position:
Khaleke Hudson.
August 21st, 2018 at 3:07 PM ^
Agreed. My unpopular (or maybe just uncommon) opinion is that Khaleke is the best player on our defense this year. Dude is going to own fools.
August 21st, 2018 at 2:57 PM ^
Umm, yes it is
August 21st, 2018 at 2:58 PM ^
I am already suspicious of any list that considers Will Grier the best QB in the country.
August 21st, 2018 at 3:08 PM ^
Who is his competition? Not super strong year for QBs. That said, either of the dudes from Georgia or Alabama should probably be it, the QB show in the title game last year was off the charts.
August 21st, 2018 at 3:20 PM ^
The usual two obvious guys are of course obvious, but I won't be surprised if Hudson and Chase are also all americans based on this next end of year production.
August 21st, 2018 at 3:27 PM ^
I would have also guessed bush
August 21st, 2018 at 3:41 PM ^
It’s the end of the season that matters. Potential end of season AAs:
Patterson
Gary
Winovich
Higdon
DPJ
Black
Bush
Long
Hill
The defensive candidates are obvious. If our offense breaks out then one or more of the TE, WR, QB and RB could have All American seasons
August 21st, 2018 at 3:46 PM ^
I think u could add gentry to list, I think he is going to have a break out season, unreal upside for him
August 21st, 2018 at 3:43 PM ^
Wisconsin will still find a way to stay below that glass ceiling under which they and other "good plus" programs like Iowa and Michigan State have dwelled for decades. They'll have a gaudy record and get destroyed in either the BIG championship game or the first playoff game. About as given as gravity.
August 21st, 2018 at 3:50 PM ^
Don’t tell me who I guessed, pal.
August 21st, 2018 at 4:21 PM ^
It actually makes sense that Gary would not make first team. There is an absurd amount of DL talent in college football this Fall. Ed Oliver (I know he's a DT, but still being hyped as the potential #1 overall pick next Spring), Nick Bosa, literally everyone on Clemson's starting DL, and then I'm sure Alabama has got some five star stud or four that they'll roll out fresh off the assembly line too.
That's not to say Gary can't end up there at the end of the season. The man is still going to just wreak havoc. But I understand why he's not there right now.
August 21st, 2018 at 5:47 PM ^
What??? Devin Bush isn’t from The D, I was hoping this would be about Lavert...
August 21st, 2018 at 6:37 PM ^
But he was my first guess.
