Niko Porikos grew up in an NTDP billet home. Cool story.

I like the little nugget we got from Baxter here of 51 punt returns so far in five games. Even being conservative for the year, that could end up being about 100 punt returns for the season.
That's valuable experience for any player, not even taking into account punts to the opposition, field goals, kickoffs, kickoff returns, extra points. A player could end up getting 250-300 snaps in a season.
Maybe special teams isn't really a place where a true freshman wastes a redshirt, especially if it leads to occasional snaps on offense or defense late in the season.

Signing NTDP players isn't the way you win in modern college hockey. If it was, Michigan and Minnesota would have a lot more national titles in the last 15 years.
How you win is recruiting high-end kids with significant experience in high school (Minnesota kids only) or juniors, and then keeping them in your program more than one year.
I'm sure Michigan fans enjoyed having Trouba and Larkin around for one year, but I'll bet if they'd have brought in Luc Snuggerud, for example (who is now in year two at Nebraska-Omaha), there'd be a bigger payoff for the Wolverines having him around for 4 years.

Arizona State will win the national title within 5 years. Their recruiting will be off the charts.

The chapters about Hagerup are most illuminating.
To me, Brandon made two terrible personnel decisions. One was not hiring Harbaugh in 2011. The other was not replacing Red. Both programs have suffered for those decisions for years, and had he gotten those right he'd probably still be employed at Michigan.

Florida hasn't played a non-conference road game outside of Florida since 1993. That was against Memphis, I believe. I'm stunned Michigan got them to agree to Texas!
Getting them to Ann Arbor would be almost impossible.

Great. Another game against another opponent (Colorado) in which the only interesting component to the game will be to watch highlights of an unforgettable Michigan loss of years past.
Sorry, Colorado at night is not worth it.
And my goodness, I just looked at the 2016 schedule. That's a load of trash. 10-2 is the worst case.

They do feel differently. My first memories are of John Kolesar taking care of Ohio State and Alabama. I love the helmet stickers.
That's why it's so hard to define "tradition" with a 136-year-old entity. You think of 1997, but I think of the 80s, five straight conference titles, Jim Harbaugh, Mark Messner, Tripp Welbourne, Vada Murray, John Kolesar, Jon Vaughn, Tony Boles, Leroy Hoard, Desmond Howard and Tyrone Wheatley before I get to 1997. And others think of the 1960s. And others, the Ten-Year War.

Yes, and since federal law exists, Michigan could finally get around to starting a womens' hockey program, since it'd need to fund more womens' athletic scholarships.

Hoke recruited tons of "skilled" players. He didn't do anything with them. That's why he is unemployed as a coach right now.
And if you meant "skill" players, he recruited them too (Funchess, Green, Peppers, Smith, Darboh, Chesson, Butt, Bunting, Canteen, etc.), but, ditto.

I thought Frederick Canteen was recruited to play slot receiver? I distinctly recall Ace alluding to it in his commitment post.
Weren't De'Mario Jones and Bo Dever also potential players at that position?

Minnesota is a better team than Michigan right now. It's up to Michigan to prove that is incorrect. They have the chance to do so on Halloween night (nice scheduling B1G - as if football fans don't have kids who trick-or-treat).
|5 weeks 4 days ago||Yes, Michigan has more||
Yes, Michigan has more talent, but Minnesota has been far better than Michigan the past two years. Kill has done a masterful job building the Gophers program since Brewster's tenure.
There's no question that on August 31 Minnesota is the better team until Michigan proves otherwise.
|5 weeks 4 days ago||Right. It shouldn't take more||
Right. It shouldn't take more than one off-season. Football isn't an impossible mission. Do your job and win the game.
|5 weeks 4 days ago||The only teams that have||
The only teams that have brought in more talented players over the past 5 years are Ohio State and Michigan State.
Michigan should not lose to teams like Maryland, Rutgers or Minnesota. Michigan has superior players at almost every position on the field, as well as significant institutional advantages (training, recovery, health, facilities, etc.) off the field. The coaching let the team down last year and that issue has been remedied. If they aren't 10-2 in late November they haven't done well enough.
