Nolan Rumler signs with Kent State

Just noticed in the local paper (Kent Record-Courier) that Nolan Rumler finalized his transfer to Kent State on early signing day last week.  Of course, he put his name in the portal back at the beginning of October when he could see that playing time wasn't likely to happen for him at Michigan.

He grew up in Kent, OH and went to perennial power Archbishop Hoban in Akron.  Kent State hasn't won the MAC since Nick Saban and Jack Lambert were linebackers in 1972, but he'll be on a team that might contend for the MAC championship again next year and will certainly expect to start next year as 4 of the O lineman were 5th year seniors.

Best of luck to Nolan!

Good for Nolan. Hope he does well there.

Julian Edelman and Josh Cribbs are the only two things I think of when I think "Kent State Football." Cribbs was a beast.

Didn't Antonio Gates Sr go to Kent State......

Good luck to Nolen....crush it with the Golden Flashes!

I took my daughter there for a college visit last year because believe it or not they have a top 10 fashion program.  Campus was nice....second largest in Ohio.  At the end of the day though i must of rubbed of on her because she just couldn't see herself going to school in the state of Ohio.

Josh Cribbs was awesome for them and did well in the NFL too.  I had forgotten about Julian Edelman, another good one.

Antonio Gates was a great basketball player there and one of the greatest NFL tight ends of all time.  Amazingly, he never played football at Kent State.  He was a power forward that helped KSU get to the Elite 8 in the NCAA tourney.  However, he went undrafted for the NBA.  Fortunately, he was able to get a tryout with a few NFL teams and the Chargers signed him to an undrafted free agent deal.  He still holds the career record for receiving TDs by a tight end with 116.  Gronk might pass him if he plays at least 2 more years.

Wonder what he would have done in the NBA if given the chance.

Several of my in-laws went to KSU for teaching degrees, so it's been a good school for our family, but my daughter is now at UM and I'm proudly paying way too much for out of state.

he must have been completely miserable at M to leave mid season.

obviously he missed out on a LOT of great things happening in the program.

hope he gets things sorted out for himself, comes from a nice family from our area.

It always tugs at my heartstrings when I see a kid, who came in with such hopes, have to confront failure.  I’m glad to see the mercenary stranglehold that the NCAA put on these kids for generations is being chipped away and the significant number of athletes in each recruiting class who don’t have much of a chance to see the field can use the portal to find a better situation for themselves. Best Wishes, Nolan!

Wow, I didn't remember him being a 4-star and the #174 player nationally. Because Nolan is an uncommon name, I always mentally interchanged him and Nolan Ulizio (#1294 nationally), despite being here in different periods.

He's got one season to prove himself to the NFL or other pro leagues.  Can only prove anything if you're on the field.  Go get some playing time and hope you can succeed!
