If Gardner turns the ball over 4 times, Shane would turn it over 6-8. This is Gardners team and like it or not, without him, we prob win two less games this year, maybe more.
Even though Gardner does make some mistakes soley on him when he presses, i feel kind of bad for him. What he would do with an even average offensive line.

Oh wow. That was great. How he continues to perform at that level i will never know.

It is absolutely amazing what he is still doing at his age. Ill have to see if i can dig up a video of his pic. I did not get a chance to see it.

Cole is better than Campbell, and it is not even close.

I posted my thoughts on Brian Cole fairly late in the Brian Cole thread last week. Not sure if you got to read, but it will give you a good idea what to watch for when you see him. It was my first time seeing him live, and the kid was absolutely amazing. Just a great, great athlete. Peppers level athlete for sure. His agility was what blew me out - knew he was very fast and fairly strong - did not realize he was so agile.

Focus on who is better with no hole. Focus on who is better at finding holes. Its clear as day. We are not going to have holes big enough to drive a mack truck through with our opponents going forward.
|2 weeks 3 days ago||I have been saying this since||
I have been saying this since they were in high school. And i agree, its not close.
Behind our offensive line, Smith is better all day. Behind the Dallas Cowboys offensive line of the 90's, i just may take Green.

I believe i have a very good eye for talent. I usually judge talent well early (while they are in high school), and am definitely more right then wrong, and my opinions differ many, many times against the recruiting services.
SO now that im done sticking my chest out and declaring myself talent guru, let me be the first to eat crow on Funchess.
I never thought he would start a single game at Michigan based on high school. Totally whiff on my part.
Fast forward, and my update on him would not be very far from what Devin's opinion on him is. Its difficult for me to say best ever, because Anthony Carter was a top 3 guy here regardless of position, and easily the best WR to ever play here, and one of the top few in college football history. But Funchess does have a chance to pass Howard. A really good chance to be honest. But this is what will hinder him.....
1) our offensive line not giving Gardner enough time
2) Funchess leaving early
3) Funchess staying and not having Gardner throwing to him next year (Morris/SPeight)
But good Lord, Funchess is an absolute freak and definitely has the physical ability to be one of the best no doubt. Guy is so so much better than i ever though he would be.
|3 weeks 22 hours ago||So as i stated i was going to||
So as i stated i was going to the game initiating the other post (but its off the page) i will report back with what i saw from Cole.
Stats were already pretty much provided so i won't delve into it, but lets just say that in the first half, he was absolutely special and had about the best possible half a recruit could have. He exceeded my expectations.
I already watched enough clips of him to get a decent idea of his size, speed and strength. One thing that i never could get a handle on was his often talked about agility. Everyone raved about it, but i just never seen it in his videos. I needed to see it live. The other thing i wanted to see was his endurance. Kid plays every snap both ways, punts and returns punts. He does not do kickoffs and only came out of the game maybe twice on defense for rests. I have stated a few times i think Mikey Weber wins player of the year because he only plays RB and is fresh. I wanted to see how exhausted Cole would get in the 2nd half.
Before i get started on Cole's agility and endurance, let me back up and state that before the opening kickoff, the eyeball test stated that Saginaw Arthur Hill would win this game. They were MUCH bigger. When they lined up, it was very noticeable. I figured SAH would simply smash it down Heritage throat and wear them down. And they did pretty much own the line. It was just that Cole was special all over the field. Take Cole away from this game, SAH wins, probably rather easily too. Its amazing what one difference maker can do at the high school level. Cole was Heritage tallest player at 6'3" listed. There was one more at 6'3" but he was injured and not dressed. Next biggest was 6'2" on Heritage. Arthur Hill had a FRESHMEN Jimmy Bell Jr. at 6'8" and 310 lbs (didnt play much, but lets keep an eye on him going forward), a Junior who is a top 200 recruit next year and #2 player in state of Michigan Lawrence Gordan at 6'6" and 255 lbs, another Jr. at Jaylen Browder at 6'5" and 255 (i wont go on, you get the idea)....
Off the charts. This was my big question coming into the game. I knew his straight speed and strength, but questioned this. Kid had the quickest spin move ive seen in the hole, has unbelievable vision and feel for the hole, great hop step, one cut and multiple cut ability, and does it naturally. It is just something you cannot teach. He had unbelievable plays all day, but his best was a simple 11 yard run between the tackles. Should have been stopped behind the line twice, stopped at the line, and no more than a 5 yeard gain. But hey, this is Brian Cole. His agility, speed, acceleration is off the charts. Just like Peppers, he could excel at RB at the next level even at this height. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind. By the 2nd quarter, when Cole touched the ball, every fan in the stand stopped eating their popcorn, held their breath, and just had the instinct of standing up. No player on the field did that to you except him. It was like watching Barry Sanders all over again. You just expected something special, because thats what he was giving the crowd.
This was as expected. He was absolutely exhausted by mid to late 3rd quarter and started taking plays off. WHen lined up at WR and the play was away, he would just stand their sometimes. Not run a 'fake' route. Not go downfield and try to block. Just stand there. On defense, when the play was away from him, he would slow-jog towards the runner. On one play, the SAH RB broke a few tackles about 5 yards down the field, and Cole was just slowly running to him. After Cole saw him break the tackles, he then sprinted to him and make the tackle about 15 yards down the field, but if he would have hauled ass the entire time the RB would have been tackled at that 5 yard spot, or maybe an additional yard or two. I guess this is what i expected, but i would rather see him take himself out of the game when tired. I like to see a player run HARD every play, and when they cant, come out and get another guy in there who can. Small potatoes though, he wont be this overused in college.
About midway to the end of the 2nd quarter, my buddy and i looked at each other and laughed. Coles name was being called for like 4 consecutive plays - it was like he was superman. It was ridiculous.... Cole with the TD catch. Cole with the takle. Cole with the Fumble Recovery. Cole with the First down run...... We were thinking what is he going to do next? Cole with the pass, cole caught it, cole touchdown, cole extra point, cole cures cancer?
In a nutshell, i came out of this game with a MUCH higher opinion of Cole than i previously had, and i previously was very high on him. He really truly is a special athlete that can play multiple positions at a very high level just like JP.
** EDIT **
I forgot to mention. This kid is an absolutely VICIOUS blocker. When he didnt take a play off and actually blocked, holy $hit. He as smashing guys and making multiple solid blocks on the same play - very Chesson like. I LOVED seeing this.

I think this is easy (of course, IMO :))
Offense: Butt and Deveon Smith
Defense: Countess (he should be 2nd and Clark should be here at 3rd IMO), Bolden (i think the world of Pipkins, so this was the hardest choice for me)
|3 weeks 1 day ago||Nice. I am really curious to||
Nice. I am really curious to see the year Weber will have. I honestly think he will be the player of the year in the state of Michigan, over Cole.
Cole just simply plays too much. He plays both sides and his team is not the greatest, so he simply becomes exhausted.
Weber not only is a stud in all facets, but plays just offense unlike Cole playing all 22 positions at the same time.
Look forward to your report on Weber.

I really do not have an opinion on Donnal as of yet. Have not seen enough of him. However, he has had rave reviews.
On the other hand, i have relentlessly given my opinion on Doyle as i have studied him more than any other recruit the last 2 years. For the fifth time, the kid is going to be a star. For the third time, he is VERY similar to Kevin McHale - very skilled post player who can use his body unlike any recruit i ever remembered coming into college - he is so advanced in using his body and both hands extremely well. I have already stated months ago it would not shock me if Doyle starts from day 1, and i expected him to start mid way through the season.
Those who have played college ball and/or study fundementals instead of how strong a kid is or how high he can jump/dunk should have been able to see Doyles skillset a mile away a long time ago. I nailed Trey Burke, and i will nail Doyle.
WIth all this said, from the whispers coming out of the Fort the last 2 years, i do have to agree i am extremely underwhelmed, statistically at least, of what Donnal is doing against inferior competition. This kid was getting RAVE reviews. Don't trust everthing you hear, judge for yourrself i say.
|5 weeks 19 hours ago||'The line is only as good as||
'The line is only as good as its weakest member' is extremely crude thinking in regards to evaluating how good an offensive line will be. I can mathematically display if you need further help.
|5 weeks 23 hours ago||Yes, it isn't. Anyone who||
Yes, it isn't. Anyone who doesn't see this does not follow football closely enough.
This line will be no better than last years. Its the teams achilles heals, and all hope will rest in Devin being a little better than last year and being the savior of this offense (and the D being as advertised, which i do believe will be).
But man, you have to feel for Devin. Possibly one of the top QB's to ever put on a Michigan uniform, but does not get a chance to show what he can really do because he just happened to play during the worst offensive lines in Michigan football history (and still is puting up great stats). Running for his life every play, or taking a big hit every other play.
Honestly, Devin is not getting the respect he deserves. Without Devin last year, what do we win? 4 games +/- 1?
And to make matters worse, next year our line will have more experience and another year of S&C, so it will at least return to average in the big ten, which is a HUGE jump. But then we will be breaking in a new QB.
Just wish a junior/senior Gardner would have had the opportunity to be behind a great line. He would have broke some records.

Told you all so in regards to Doyle!
|5 weeks 2 days ago||Jennings and Josh Smith are||
Jennings and Josh Smith are both absolutely and astonishingly horrible. Worst shooters in the league at their positions, and they jack up a ton of shots. Ala allen Iverson, it is NOT a formula to win a championship. Efficiency is.
Dump these 2 and build a team around Drummond and Monroe by adding high efficient team players and this team is easily in the playoffs every year for the foreseeable future. Why is it that hard for these ex players to build a team? Its relatively easy if you don't just look at OH WOW, THIS GUY SCORES A LOT OF POINTS, LETS GET HIM NOW BEFORE SOMEONE ELSE DOES!!!!
|5 weeks 2 days ago||You just nailed it sir.||
So many people do not understand the difference between Quickness and Fast. Norfleet like Barry Sanders are quick. Funchess is fast. Hell lose to you in the first 10 yards, but beet you 50+
|5 weeks 3 days ago||Are you kidding me? You||
Are you kidding me? You would let a murderer get a 2nd chance. Holy $hit this is horrible and i wish someone would hold him down and let Vladimir Klitchko take a shot at him. This was a cowardly, horrible thing. A fist is a weopon and that could have been death.
Matter of fact, Jones was right there - he didnt throw a punch but he was the one arguing, and seemed to walk to the side and get his attention away from York so York could hit him. Id argue that this could have absolutely been an accomplice in 'lining' the guy up for a free pot shot.
This makes me soooo angry. Grrr!

|6 weeks 3 days ago||Really, this class will not||
Really, this class will not be top 10 because of the size of it. However, at this rate, we will be top 5 based on quality, which is far more important. I am not sure why people even rate classes by anything other than quality/stars per recruit. Sites should NOT favor your Miami/Mississipi schools just because they sign 61 kids a year.

Going to be honest, i voted Woodson, but i didn't truly mean it.
I mean, are you kidding me? Derrick F'ing Thomas, the single best defensive player ever to put on a college uniform (sorry, Deacon Jones).

Only thing i really do not understand is how both committed, and few months later we dont even make ones top 10 and the others top 5. Something is up here. Anyone have any inside scoop?
Just seems really odd. And honestly, i dont give a crap about losing one because i never thought he was that good and was severely overrated. But ill be honest, the other is going to be a stud.
|7 weeks 4 days ago||Ahhh. So your the same guy||
Ahhh. So your the same guy that calls bluff to a person stating Alex Avilla will not bat 1.000 next year with a minimum 300 at bats, because the person does not have a crystal ball?
Its called experience, bubba.

they will still have Johnny Football number 1. Maybe for the next 10 years. The only person i can think of who ESPN would put above him is LeBron James.
|7 weeks 4 days ago||If someone could tell me that||
If someone could tell me that ....
A) this offensive line would be average this year
B) Devin Gardner does NOT get hurt this year
I would say take it to the bank that this is a 10 win team.
However, neither of the above will be true. I say 8.5 wins this year (8 or 9)
|7 weeks 5 days ago||Peppers is just a true freshmen||
to think he is going to unseat high caliber athletes in their own right with 3-5 years of solid experience and double digit B10 starts is just ridiculous.
Peppers has a TON to learn. You don't win football games because your fast. We have had a ton of speedy, athletic players that never played a meaningful down at Michigan for one reason or the other.
How about we let Peppers play a few downs before annointing him a starter over a couple solid big ten starting CB's.
*YOST, this was not directed at you, but to a few above *

I am pretty sure it was this forum i posted quite a while ago - but we really did not have a very good chance at landing Cole, and im talking from the very beginning. The coaches really deserve a ton of credit on this one.
I am from Saginaw and every so often i get some very good tidbits on athletes here since im extremely active in the area and speak to quite a few people in regards to high school athletics.
Let me say that Brian Cole for quite some time favored OSU, from a pretty reliable source. Now, i don't know this for a fact, but from tea leaves, MSU then took the lead over OSU and MSU and the coaching staff did a very good job recruiting him. No doubt in my mind. It had/has to be hard for Cole to turn them down.
Michigan for most of his recruitment was actually 3rd. IMO, there was no way i saw him coming here up until maybe a few weeks ago i though 'maybe' Michigan had a chance, but still not a great one.
Again, in short, Michigan did a unbelievable job changing this kids mind. Great job Michigan staff.

Didnt we give up 2 absolute studs in Maybin and Anderson for Cabrera and that overrated hard throwing pitcher (cant remember the guys name)?
Trade 2 potential studs for an elite, established veteran? Yes please!
