This is not only the very first college football game of the entire season, but our first opponent.
If this was, say, the 8th week of college football and we already played Hawaii, i totally agree with you. But it's not.

One common theme is all the coaches have some really positive things to say about this team. They seem very confident. I cannot recall the exact vibe last year, but i do not remember the coaches being this overly positive when talking about camp and pretty much every player.
I am struggling to find and extract negatives out of their responses. I get a "bryan mone came in sloppy but now is a stud' type thing, or "Rashan Gary doesnt know whats going on but hes learning and coming along well and by year end will be a stud" every now and then, but man all these coaches seem overly optimistic.
Maybe .... Just maybe this team IS as good as i believe they will be.

Have some of you people ever played football or understand it?
Bredeson looked like a high school freshmen there? Good gawd.
In this one clip, i was actually extremely impressed with Bredeson.

Wish it was in spreadsheet format. I would like to subtract each players ranking from 101 - then separate by teams, and add the column up - thus rank the teams by total power. Since Michigan's players are top heavy, i would think they may be #1 in the big ten in quality (IE...a top 5 player on this list would be more beneficial on a team than 3 that are in the 90 - 100 range).

I do kind of agree here. Taking the best LB (mLB) quite possibly mades this Michigan defense one of the best in college football history. This defense is already killer, and taking away the weakness on the entire team and adding in the best player at the position in college football makes this defense one for the ages.
My 2nd pick would be a LT i believe. If mLB is not our weakest position, LT is.
Dalvin Cook and LF are tough to pass up, but replacing a glaring weakness with an NFL stud at either above 2 positions simply helps the team more IMO.

One game is fairly tough to fully judge a kid by, but it does give you a good feel of certain things. The effort does bother me a bit.
Ive seen some real good talent in my area (tri-city - Bay City/Saginaw/Midland). And out of all the kids i have seen play in high school, you would be shocked as to who the best high school player was....
NOT Jason Richardson
NOT Brian Bowen
NOT Eric Davis
NOT Draymond Green
NOT Joshua Southern
NOT Tory Jackson
NOT DarDar Tucker
The best ive seen? Eric Devendorf. He was soooooo talented. Its really too bad he was an uncoachable loose cannon. He was unbelievable in high school.
BTW, Jason Richardson was a close 2nd. And he was before my time, but if i would have seen him play in high school, Mark Macon probably would have been #1 on this list. He was a high school legend.

"NJ WR Ahmir Mitchell, another potential safety, nearly transferred."
Huh? I feel like this sentence should be removed from the above article.

It does - i agree. But then an episode later it is excellent.
My one huge beef (and it is walk-away level IMO) was when the pizza delivery guy died twice in 2 different episodes, only to show up later. Both times were next to impossible to survive. It was horrible TV and after the 2nd time, i stopped watching for 3 or 4 episodes. I did come back because there are a few other story lines i like, but 'you know who' basically dying twice and then coming out of pretty much impossible to survive situations is bad TV.

I am an anti-series type of guy. There are just soooo many series out. Most are fairly horrible. Some start good (first few episodes/maybe first season) then simply fall off a cliff.
I have started watching a hell of a lot of series, but its rare when they are good enough for me to keep watching. Im very picky.
Anyway, here are a few that have kept me interested all the way through.....
1) Game of Thrones (best series ever. Even if your not into fantasy/magical crap, this is just so well done. This series always has at least 5 story lines going at same time. You may not like 1 or 2, but the other 4 or 5 are excellent).
2) Walking Dead (not fear the walking dead. Im an anti-zombie guy, but this is way more than just picking up a gun and shooting zombies int he head. Competing vs. other humans for natural resources in an apocolyptic world)
3) Peaky Blinders (reletively underrated/unknown gem. Probably because its only on Netflix. if you like gangster movies, this is well done - only problem with it is i cannot understand some of the English as it is set in Birmingham, England)
With that said, there is one that i did watch all the way through, but do not recommend it. However, the first 2 seasons were pretty damn good. 3rd season ok. After that, walk away. Lost.

Jump on that MSU line with every cent you have. Michigan wins by double digits, most likely 15-25. Easy money.
I would stay away from the other lines.

Been saying it for months now. Before these vegas lines came out. Before these media outlets are placing us top 5.
We will CRUSH state this year. Double digit win.
Seems like people are FINALLY coming around.

Then again, its an easy call for me. I no longer can stand the NBA.

While i think its fairly obvious Starks beat Boltons tongiht, i have a feeling they dont go down without a big loss. It just cannot be John. I have a feeling Sansa Stark bites the dust, although the Starks are victorious.

My beef with Rivals is the amount of analysts in the south, vs. north. I believe they have 6 ish southern recrutiing analysts, vs. 1 Northern (Helmholdt). If that is not going to produced biased results, i don't know what the kucf will.

"May" want to temper enthusiasm unknown to manking in regards to Darnay Holmes a bit. Wilterfonger just CB'd him to UCLA, and if i recall correctly, Wilterfonger takes his balls kinda seriously and stuff.

I do see some Wormley in him (same points in high school). Wormley turned out to be much, much better than i expected him to be. Brennan Beyer is another good comparison IMO.

Best DE's in american football history....
1) Rashan Gary
2) Deacon Jones
3) Reggie White
4) Bruce Smith
5) Lee Roy Selmon
Most accurate top 5 ever :)

ahhh, thanks for the correction. Heck, if it is 10 days away, i bet we land another recruit ahead of him then. Especially with all the camps going on.

Staffs never take a game easy. Harbaugh will take this game as serious as any game on teh schedule - maybe more after last years debacle.
But Michigan wins this comfortably by double digits. MSU does NOT have the horses to match us this year (or the coaches).
Michigan wins this by 20, plus or minus 10. Guaranteed. Heard it here first :)
|12 weeks 4 days ago||Agree. [email protected] is the easy||
Agree. @MSU is the easy game. @Iowa, and by the end of the season @OSU are the 2 hardest games.
If playing @OSU was early in the season, i would think we win hands down. But end of season all that talent will more than likely jell. But @Iowa may still be a tougher game.
We lose 1 of thos 2 games - not sure what one yet.

Speights short passing accuracy, and mobility within the pocket were pretty damn impressive. I have already at a crocodile because i stated before that he would never get a meaningful snap - lifetime backup.
This kid improved beyond what i thought was possible. From my limitied veiwing of him and JOK, i have Speight starting at this point. He was fairly impressive.
|13 weeks 3 days ago||Personally, the crazy thing||
Personally, the crazy thing about this is that i was telling all my buddies GS is not going to the finals, and are not even the best team in the NBA THIS year, let alone all-time.
Whats crazy about it though, is that i was saying San Antonio was going to the finals, would beat GS, and were better than GS.
So, i was 'kinda' right? maybe not? Oh well, just beat LeBron.
|13 weeks 4 days ago||On last years team Peppers||
On last years team Peppers was definitely not as important. But the argument is THIS years team. And our LBs are absolutely unknown with next to zero experience. Arguably our best LB could not even start or play his way into the top 5 last year on a team where we had mediocre LBs at best.
Peppers move to OLB, combined with his return/offensive ability on THIS years team - the guy is simply the most irreplaceable player IMO.
|13 weeks 4 days ago||People are missing the boat||
People are missing the boat on this. The most irreplaceable player on the team is a player at an important position, where the discrepency between he and his replacement is widest.
Now, the 2 paramaters are.....
1) Important positiion.
2) discrepency at that position between starter and #2.
So, IMO, kick punter, long snapper, kickoff specialists, gunner etc... to the curb.
You also have to weigh the 2 together. For example, QB is the most important position on the field. The discrepency between our most likely starter and the backup is extremely small though (discrepency is close to zero right now IMO).
Anyway, you must take this into consideration. Smith would definitely not be my number one choice. He would not even be in my top 5.
Peppers, Cole, Gedeon, Magnuson make up my top 4. For 5th spot, maybe McCray, maybe Lewis (our #3 CB, Clark OR Stribbling whoever doesnt win the #2 job between the 2, would come in for him and would be a real good #3 corner, BUT Lewis is SOOOO good that the discrpency between him and a real good corner is still prety big).
Not sure the order of my #1 to #4 - probably Peppers #1, then arguments can be made for 2 to 4.. #5 is also a rather tough choice - maybe Lewis because even though the #3 corner is pretty darn good, Lewis is just THAT good.

This should be a very similar class as last year. Expect this class to be ranked somewhere between #3 and #7.
|14 weeks 2 days ago||The thing about college||
The thing about college football is you just do not play many games (unlike college basketball). It is not only imiportant if you win or lose, its almost as important HOW or HOW MUCH you win by/lose by.
If we now beat Collie by 62 instead of just 49 - that may give us another spot in the rankings. Who knows.
But how you win/lose indeed factors into football rankings, unlike basketball.
