the just released schedules were a flat-out statement that the B10 doesn't believe SOS will matter in playoff selection

I try not to worry about individual games too much during the first few months of the season anymore. They will drive you crazy. The Tigers will overcome a "tough" Indians squad by the middle of September. |
| 2 weeks 6 days ago | What year did the Athletic Department switch |
What year did the Athletic Department switch to guaranteeing any student a ticket if they wanted it but only allowing actual students in with the student tickets? Did that coincide with the dwindling student section attendance issues? I attended all of the home games as a student from 1996-1999. I do not remember any attendance issues in the student section at all. However, I do remember a lot of "casual student fans" who had tickets that hardly ever ended up at the games. The difference was, they could sell the tickets to other students who had friends or relatives who wanted to go to the games and they didn't have to get the tickets validated or prove they were actual students. Maybe the Athletic Department should consider raising the price on the student tickets but allow the students to give/sell tickets to friends/relatives/other students without any ID/Validation needed so that Michigan fans end up in the seats. Also, with additional security added at the gates and tunnels, it takes even longer for fans to enter the stadium than it used to. The whole process has never been very efficient but it is worse than ever the last several years. I would say this issue slightly adds to the late arrivals. I do hope the problem can be solved and that students who want to get tickets to the games can still get them. I will never forget my 4 years in the student section. I still love going to the games but nothing will beat the times I had during those 4 years at the Big House. Watching Woodson, Brady, undefeated at home against ND, MSU, and OSU during that time and a National Championship didn't hurt either. Go Blue!!! |
| 5 weeks 6 days ago | I love this argument |
One argument being made by a few Sparty posters were that if UM and MSU traded spots in the tournament (MSU switched to 4 seed in the South and UM switched to 3 seed in the Midwest) that there would be no way UM would have made it out of the "tougher" Midwest Region. One of the posters went on to say that if UM played MSU tomorrow that Nix and Payne would make McGary their bitch. I love this logic. If UM beats Louisville tomorrow (the team that beat the shit out of Duke who beat the shit out of Sparty) those tools will probably still be spewing the same "logic." |
| 6 weeks 3 days ago | Can't really watch the day-to-day managerial decisions |
I can't really watch the Tigers on a daily basis to follow the day-to-day managerial decisions having to do with the batting line-up and bullpen matchups with Leyland. He pisses me off so often that, with baseball, there are too many games for me to get emotionally worked up over his decisions. I will follow all season but not by watching every game closely. I just can't manage the daily ups-and-downs anymore. |

Russell supplied football and basketball uniforms until 1995 when Michigan signed a deal with Nike. |
| 6 weeks 3 days ago | The AD and the President |
The AD and the President saw the same video that we all saw. Can we agree that the only reason Rice ended up getting fired is because the public and media are in an uproar? This guy would still be the coach if that video never went public. The AD and President need to go just due to the fact that they, without the help of public outcry, were willing to allow Rice to continue to coach at their school after viewing the video that we all saw. I could never trust those two to make important decisions for my University if they were willing to allow Rice to continue as coach. |
| 6 weeks 3 days ago | Sparty fans are going to own a lot of different T-shirts |
Sparty fans are going to own a lot of different T-shirts before this tournament is over: SDSU, VCU, Kansas, Florida, Syracuse, and Louisville. Way to keep the economy going Sparty. I can't imagine going out and buying gear for other schools to root against Sparty. I guess that's because I was the first born son. Maybe that is why. |

I am going to predict that Ziegler ends up at the University of Detroit. UofD would be closer to home and he would have an opportunity to team with McCallum to help make the Titans a power in the Horizon league. |

Both were amazing and left me speechless but the game last night had more importance for the basketball program in their attempt to climb back in to national prominence. |
| 7 weeks 5 days ago | The comparison to the firing of Glen Mason |
The comparison of Minnesota's firing of Tubby Smith to the football firing of Glen Mason is the first thing that comes to mind. While it is frustrating that it seems like Minnesota can do no better than making the NCAA's and maybe winning 1 game, I am not sure the successor they bring in can even expect to do that well. If Minnesota is able to bring in a big-time coach like Shaka, that would be one thing. However, I would have to think Shaka would need to be offered one of the premier jobs in the country to leave VCU right now. Minnesota, while definitely a step-up, is not one of the premier jobs in the country. Glen Mason seemed to consistently go between 7-5 and 9-3 ish and didn't do well in bowl games and never won the B10. Still, his results were better than what came before or what is going to come after him. Minnesota football has a ceiling and it isn't the Rose Bowl. That program wasn't going to do any better than what they were doing under Glen Mason. I am not sure the Minnesota basketball program will do much better under another coach either. I was kind of surprised when Tubby even took the Minnesota job in the first place coming after a National Championship at Kentucky. I understand the frustration and the disappointment the Gopher faithful have over this year's team not meeting expectations but I just don't think B10 Titles or Final 4's are realistic at Minnesota. |

Unless there is a real Cinderella (George Mason 2006, or VCU 2011) I tend to agree with you. I still watch it. However, I am not nearly as excited as I am for Thursday and Friday when they play 32 games and my bracket picks are still relevant. |
| 8 weeks 11 hours ago | Take care of the basketball |
Take care of the basketball and take advantage of THJ's and GRIII's athletic ability once the ball is past half-court. Hit Nik for some spot-up 3's in transition and it will be our first Sweet 16 since 1994. Go Blue!!! |

That's too bad. They also took a few teams they played this season too lightly. I hope the pattern doesn't continue on Thursday. |

| 8 weeks 5 days ago | I bought tickets for all 3 sessions |
I bought tickets for all 3 sessions in December (afternoon Thursday, night Thursday, Saturday). When I bought tickets, individual session tickets had not gone on sale yet and the whole lower bowl was sold out and so was much of the upper level. I do not think many of the tickets for these games were sold as individual session tickets. I am sure that plenty of people bought the tickets and may be selling them on the secondary market by individual session or maybe some fans (both UM and MSU alike) bought the whole strip and will sell the session their team is not playing in. I would expect to see lots of UM and MSU fans at both sessions. Also, you better believe their will be fans (on both sides unfortunately) that will react to the performance of their rival team. It happens all the time when Duke and N. Carolina play at the same location. I am with most of the others on this site that will not boo or cheer against MSU loudly. Would it bother me if they lost? Absolutely not. I just hope my fellow Michigan fans don't stoop to a low level by engaging in vocal cheering against and booing of MSU's performances. I know Sparty fans will do it. I hope UM fans do not. |

Not sure it would matter who they play right now...just want them in Auburn Hills. |
| 8 weeks 6 days ago | Hopefully, the committee will bump Syracuse back to a 4 |
Hopefully, the committee will bump Syracuse back to a 4 for losing to a good team. Seems like predictors have no problem bumping Michigan down when they lose to good teams. |
| 8 weeks 6 days ago | I can't really argue that Michigan is playing like a deserving |
I can't really argue that Michigan is playing like a deserving 2-3 seed but I also don't understand how Michigan's seeding seems to take a hit after every loss even if the loss is to a good team. Michigan was considered by most "experts" a probably 2-seed before losing by a point to Indiana. The loss bumped the prediction to a 3-seed. The loss to Wisconsin bumps the prediction to a 4-seed. Indiana loses to Ohio St. at home (slightly worse loss than losing to Indiana at home) and remains a 1-seed. Indiana loses to the same Wisconsin team a day later and remains a likely 1-seed. I do not understand why one team gets hammered and the other it doesn't seem to have any effect. It's not like those 2 losses were Indiana's only losses. They stand at 27-6. It's not much different than 26-7. I am not trying to say Michigan deserves a higher seed than Indiana but if you look at the whole schedule and all the wins and losses why do relatively similar losses cost one team and not the other? |
| 9 weeks 2 hours ago | They will need both Kansas St. and Syracuse to lose and |
They will need both Kansas St. and Syracuse to lose and it wouldn't hurt if New Mexico lost to UNLV. 3 or 4 seed by itself isn't such a big deal but home games in Auburn Hills are. |
| 9 weeks 2 hours ago | While I do not feel like Michigan is playing like a worthy 2-3 |
While I do not feel like Michigan is playing like a worthy 2-3 seed, I do wonder why it seems like Michigan is falling in the brackets for losses to IU and Wisconsin when other teams don't seem to be affected by losses. Indiana has lost 3 games since moving in to #1 seed projections and their projection as a #1 has never changed. If Morgan's tip goes in against them, we have damn similar resume's and a better overall record yet we are a #4 projection and they are a #1. The other one that will piss me off is Syracuse (who Lunardi bumped Michigan out of Auburn Hills for). I am not saying that Michigan is better than Syracuse but watch them lose to Louisville tonight and Lunardi will argue that the loss does no damage and they will stay on the 3 line. Not sure how their loss doesn't cost them when our loss to Indiana costs us. It's b.s. and I hope that Palm or some of the other (usually more accurate braketologists) are right about the #3 seed. I want to see Michigan play with a home court advantage and I have tickets so...let's hope! Go Blue!!! |
| 9 weeks 8 hours ago | I don't see any physical limitations from the players |
I don't see any physical limitations from the players as a reason to be so poor defensively. Beilein plays smallish line-ups when GRIII is considered a 4 and Morgan a 5. I see no reason McGary shouldn't develop in to being able to guard any 5. GRIII should be able to handle any 3. THJ should be able to handle any 2. Burke could have trouble with bigger 1's but should be fine off of the dribble and on the perimeter. Physically, Michigan has the ability to have a solid defense. I just don't see the mentality. I think McGary will be a good defender but he still has a lot to learn. I think he has a nastiness about him though. I don't see it with GRIII, THJ, Burke, or Stauskas. I think guys are frustrated that Burke dominates the ball so much. They lose focus because they aren't getting enough touches or opportunities to score. This shouldn't be an excuse not to give maximum effort defensively but I do think that is part of what is happening. Aside from poor rebounding, the defense played well for much of the MSU and IU home games. I believe this was due to the team playing with maximum effort and focus. Coaching deserves some of the blame for the inconsistency and mostly poor defense as the norm. However, I think they are coaching it and emphasizing it. I question the buy in of our players. I think they all want to shoot a lot and score a lot and win with flash. I would love to see Beilein recruit some guys with a nasty streak. I feel that he might start to look like a better defensive coach as a result. |
| 9 weeks 21 hours ago | Maybe more important that Wisconsin... |
Maybe more important than how Wisconsin does tomorrow is the fact that Sparty (many project as a 3-seed) probably maintained it with their ugly win tonight. Also, Syracuse and maybe KState (both projected as likely 4-seeds) may both be getting the benefit of resume boosting wins tonight and possibly another tomorrow. I really want Michigan to play the opening game(s) in Auburn Hills. First off, I have tickets. Second, it would be nice to maybe feel a home court type advantage. I am not sure where we stand at the moment. |

I accurately picked 13 of the 18 team resumes. I am the definition of a college basketball junkie. |
| 10 weeks 4 days ago | Gonzaga would be a tough matchup |
Gonzaga would be a tough matchup. Also, I am not so sure we would see New Mexico in the Sweet 16. I think we might see VCU and they present another list of problems. They are the Arkansas reincarnation of 40 minutes of hell from the 1990's. It could get ugly watching Hardaway and our freshmen throw the ball away left and right against that pressure. Michigan has seen nothing like what they would see if they played VCU. I am hoping that Michigan does not see really strong defensive teams or teams with really good frontcourts. Early on, that may be realistic. If we advance, we are likely to see one or both. |
| 10 weeks 5 days ago | I don't really have a problem with them being ranked #1 |
I don't really have a problem with Gonzaga being ranked #1 right now. At the same time, I do not feel that they are a legitimate National Championship contender or much of a Final 4 contender. If they get a tough 2nd round matchup like VCU or have to play Syracuse in the Sweet 16 or Louisville in the Elite 8, I just don't see them surviving that. I do not think their last 2 months has prepared them to face a stretch like that. Gonzaga has had a great year and they are a really good team. It has been so long since anyone has seen their flaws that they appear better than they are. Congrats to them on their #1 ranking. Time to go prove they deserve it. |
| 10 weeks 6 days ago | Huge win for the team |
This game was ugly as hell and we pulled it out without making a single outside shot. Hardaway was awful. Stauskas didn't even play but the defensive intensity was there for 40 minutes. That is why we won. Huge win for this team's confidence and helps reel in the possible downward spiral started with the Penn St loss this week. Play with the same defensive intensity this week and maybe...just maybe..... |
| 10 weeks 6 days ago | Ugly as hell but sweet at the same time. |
That was ugly as hell but a much needed win. I never thought I would see Michigan win a game, let alone against a top 10 team, without making a single 3-point shot. The best thing that I saw was fight and defensive intensity. Michigan played defense with intensity for 40 minutes. Sparty played awful on offense but so did we. Our defensive intensity kept us in and allowed us to pull it out. Now, we just need to put some offense and defense together to get it going in the right direction next week. Go Blue!!!! |
| 11 weeks 31 min ago | I am hoping Duke loses |
I am hoping Duke loses for a few reasons. First, I can't stand Duke and want them to lose to everyone they play. Second, their loss on Thursday probably put them on the 2 line and a loss tonight and a win by Michigan tomorrow (wishful thinking) may bump Duke down to a 3 and Michigan back up to a 2. I am saving my drinking for 4pm tomorrow. |
