NCAA Tourney: Round 1 Early Games Thread
Figured we might need a thread to start off the ACTUAL tourney (sorry Staee).
10 Virginia Tech vs. 7 Florida (on now) CBS
14 Colgate vs. 3 Arkansas (12:45) TruTv
16 Drexel vs. 1 Illinois (1:15) TBS
11 Utah State vs. 6 Texas Tech (1;45) TNT
Both Florida and VT started out pretty sloppy, but I’ve got VT in my bracket so go Hokies!

My 7 month old son is a traitor. He picked us to lose to Colorado and OSU to win it all.

Totally hate the staggered start times. Sure it gives wall-to-wall basketball for the day but it destroys variety.
I'm not sure I understand your concern. There is 32 games today and 32 games tomorrow. How else would they get them all in unless they start at the same time, which makes it worse in my opinion because they would all end at the same time.
Ya, they don’t have 16 arenas lined up near Indy anyway, so I guess we’re just stuck with BB all day.
Wow! Did the tournament expand to 128 teams this year? Sparty still didn’t make the field?
It’s 128 games, not teams.
What the hell are you talking about? The staggerization, is perfect for Channel surfing.
I really wish streaming services just used numbered channels with a typical cable remote for these reasons.
You might literally be the only person who feels that way
My first upset pick of the day is #14 Colgate over #3 Arkansas.
Arkansas grabs the lead with 9 minutes and change. They'll win going away.
Yes, it looks that way.
Can anyone tell me why teams wait until they have 5 seconds left on the clock to try to score? Why wait? If you attack earlier you get more opportunities throughout the game and you aren’t always stuck jacking up garbage.
I'd say it's just the coaching philosophy per team. Like you said, the earlier you attack, the more opportunities you get, but in contrast the more opportunities opponents get. I also think the idea is to develop the play and get a high percentage shot attempt, but it does end up with a lot of poor time management and tough shots at the buzzer.
True on the team possessions. More possessions is better odds for offense but worse on defense. I get letting a play develop but dribbling at half court running 15 seconds off in a 1 possession game is dumb. Watching teams not even get a ball in the air before the clock ends is frustrating. Guess I would rather watch run and gun teams.
Teams are always looking for the highest percentage, least contested shots they can get, however long it takes.
At least until it gets down to crunchtime.
I know it's early but with Florida and Arkansas struggling, it doesn't say much about the SEC.
Looking at you Alabama!
Didn't you know that SEC teams only claim conference strength when they're doing well? When SEC teams suck, all conference pride and solidarity goes out the window.
With MSU losing and OSU trailing the Big Ten doesn't look that great either right now.
Arkansas plays super fast on both ends
End of first half Colgate folded worse than the end of a toothpaste tube
I see what you did there.
It looked like the colgate player was having his forearm held by the arkansas player. Should have been a foul on arkansas
Good to see Castleton is having a game!
He's been the MVP the last 10 minutes of this game. Great to see for him
Hot damn!
Did the phonebooks arrive?
Florida missed 2 free throws when up 3, and then didn't foul before VT hits a tying 3 with 1 second left. Ouch!
Let’s hope former Michigan player’s success Castleton preludes to our success
Man Castleton has looked awesome (aside from the overtime turnover) happy to see it worked out for him
While it would fuck up my bracket, I hope Oral Roberts pulls the upset. I want ABSOLUTE CHAOS & HEARTBREAK for everyone except Michigan.
So apparently Oral Roberts can stroke it
Any chance mods can combine these threads???
The Lions are down to the Christians.
The Saggy State bucknuts down by 4 wow
Duane Washington has been awful so far, he's really hurting his team, maybe if Oral Roberts had Michigan on their jerseys he would light it up, asshole!
WOW! OT Wash jr misses! Too Funny
Buckeyes going to OT baby!!
ORAL ROBERTS SHOOTING A FT TO GO UP BY 5.
Nsync getting qued up BYE BYE BYE
Go ORU, go!
Sweet Mama Jamma!!!! OSU down 5
Let's go ORU! No more missed FTs, those are big!
Wow, this is a horrible start to the tourney for the Big Ten.
But a great start for Michigan fans.
Ohio State sucks. That is all. Major choke job.
Hey Schmuckeyes, how does it feel to end your season with 2 consecutive losses?
