This is a great thread because I can hear my childhood again. Keith, Ernie, Bob, Ufer-isms, Bud. What great memories.
|2 weeks 4 days ago||You left someone off the list||
You forgot to add Jackmarius Tacktheritrix...
|4 weeks 15 hours ago||Good for him||
I appreciate the role he filled so well here for our team and I wish him the best. Here's hoping he tears up that conference.

Felsner was the first name that came to mind when I saw the thread title. I'm a little biased, having grown up on the same street/canal but still. The guy is and was an absolute legend.
And I also agree with questioning how Marty got excluded.....
|9 weeks 4 days ago||So at this point in the season...||
Is the sense that the team is progressing according to schedule? I know we are still waiting for the program to mature but I get the feeling that things are happening pretty much as they should. I have to be honest, though, and admit I haven't ben able to follow particularly close. Can someone who is more connected, or at least more informed, let me know if I am on the right track here?

And even better if you read the Door Number 2 part about the niece in Matthew McConaughey's voice...

My first reaction would have been "Kids, go put on your pajamas!" "But dad, why? Its only noon!" "Do what I say!"
|13 weeks 5 days ago||Devil's advocate here...||
But does it change your mind any if said person pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 40 years rather than take a chance on going to trial?

And here I just thought it was a giant, man-eating Salmon. That would have been strange to see...

Whatever body of water created in that instance would have the impact of making all the other lakes merely the Good Lakes or the Slightly Above Average Lakes. The addition of Ohio in that scenario just detracts so much from the Great Lakes that I shudder at the thought.

And was that beard namend Lennay?
|17 weeks 6 days ago||Did not mean to imply that||
I certainly don't mean to imply there is anything about a hoax of that nature that could be considered understandable. Generally speaking, I don't understand people that lie/cheat/steal. Most people, I think, are similar in this respect. All I mean to say is that it is plausible a little bad idea snowballed into being a catastrophically large bad idea, and I think it is the most likely explanation unless we are going to go all in and decide that he is either a pathological liar or just plain evil.
Benefit of the doubt: I went with stupid rather than evil.

Once she has cancer, you can't break up. If you do, you become...Lance Armstrong.
|17 weeks 6 days ago||I'm willing to buy this||
Your explanation may actually be the closest thing to the truth so far. Sometimes people, especially those with a small selection of data points to show them otherwise, make really bad choices and its too big before they figure it out, i.e. kids lie because they don't see how big the explosion is when lies go bad. Unfortunate if true but it doesn't really make him any more of a sympathetic figure. He's already forfeited that position.

|17 weeks 6 days ago||He will still get drafted||
The dude can play football so he's still worth it to just about any team. Should he prove to have any involvement in the hoax though, expect that he'll be discussed as a guy with "character issues" and we all know what that means...ladies and gentlemen, your 2013 Detroit Lions 1st round draft pick...
|17 weeks 6 days ago||Brilliant, sir||

I'm stroking my proverbial beard in anticipation...
|21 weeks 1 day ago||Good catch...||
I definitely added wrong as I left the '89 draft out of consideration. I keyed in on the 3 taken in 1990. Of course, that Rice guy drafted in 1989 was pretty damn good. And for some reason I thought Vaught went before Mills in '90 but I could be wrong about that.
Sure we had a second rounder too but I think Mr. Higgins will forgive me for leaving him out of the discussion. As you indicated, without the addition of foregin players to the draft board, Sean Higgins still barely makes the cut. Certainly not lessening his accomplishment but also not a huge add to the program at large.
Completely agreed about the Frieder/Fisher-Beilein comparison. Having not been really around for the Johnny Orr era, I'll go ahead and say Beilein is the best basketball coach I've ever personally watched at Michigan.
My comment on Rumeal shooting free throws was a little tounge in cheek as he was basically atrocious (like you pointed out). That was more an excuse for me to post what remains one of my all time favorite sports photos, or at least the closest version I could find. I seem to remember one that was actually in black and white, taken from behind, and showed a much more clear image of the scoreboard/clock. That one is burned into my mind but I couldn't locate it on the interwebs.
