Illinois St. scores 177 points in regulation tonight!
December 2nd, 2020 at 10:39 PM ^
Not having seen the video, I'm tempted to assume that everyone on the court kept at least 6 feet of social distancing from anyone on the other team at all times.
December 3rd, 2020 at 2:21 PM ^
The craziest stat from the game is Ill St was 70 of 81 from the field, but also had 8 offensive rebounds! They missed 11 shots all game, but rebounded 8 of those misses. Meaning they only had 3 possessions that ended on a misses shot. They actually could have scored more if they weren't terrible at free throws - they went 29-42 from the line for a 69% clip.

Defensive showcase.
Don Brown disciples? Or maybe Greg Robinson?
December 2nd, 2020 at 10:42 PM ^
Can you imagine scoring 108 in regulation but also lose by 69 points.....
December 2nd, 2020 at 10:47 PM ^
Yes, if Don Brown was the the Luke Yaklich of my staff. He'd be playing a 4-1 zone or something.
December 2nd, 2020 at 10:56 PM ^
No, but unfortunately I can imagine what it’s like to score 39 points in a B10 football game and still lose by 23.

Too soon man
December 2nd, 2020 at 11:07 PM ^
Nice.
December 3rd, 2020 at 5:50 AM ^
Reminds me of when we played Loyola Marymount in the 1990 NCAA tournament. We scored 115 and lost by 34.
*edit- hat tip to mi93. Just saw you wrote the same thing.
December 3rd, 2020 at 10:54 AM ^
That was after Hank Gathers died in everyone in America was cheering for LMU to win it all.
December 3rd, 2020 at 11:15 AM ^
Crazy thing #1: LMU won their next game, against Alabama, 62-60.
Crazy thing #2: Alabama had a great look at a mid-range jumper at the buzzer to tie, but it clanged out. The shooter? None other than Robert Horry (apparently before he was Big Shot Bob).
December 3rd, 2020 at 9:32 AM ^
We did well in 1990 against Bo Kimble and LMU in a tournament game scoring 115 and losing by 27.
December 3rd, 2020 at 11:31 AM ^
That season was crazy. Michigan averaged 86 points per game and scored over 100 six times, including 127 against Iowa.
December 2nd, 2020 at 10:45 PM ^
Is on Brown Greenville's defensive coordinator?
December 2nd, 2020 at 10:48 PM ^
(Reply to CW97)
No. But I can imagine scoring 115 and losing by 34. Sadly I can picture it vividly.
Heartbreaking.
December 2nd, 2020 at 11:50 PM ^
My mind went there too. My initial thought was: sorta, yes...
December 3rd, 2020 at 5:20 AM ^
Yep. First thing I thought of was Bo Kimble
December 3rd, 2020 at 6:35 AM ^
I can picture it, too. Extreme coaching malpractice. Michigan had way more talent than LMU and stupidly tried to play their game (rather than making LMU play Michigan's game).
December 3rd, 2020 at 8:10 AM ^
Fisher did learn from it though. When they played Kentucky in the '93 semifinal he specifically talked about the LMU game and how it adjusted his strategy. Good coaches make mistakes. What makes them good (or better) is that they learn from them
December 3rd, 2020 at 9:33 AM ^
My bad, it was 34, 149-115.
December 3rd, 2020 at 9:40 AM ^
Fun fact: we beat Illinois State in the tournament game preceding that one
December 2nd, 2020 at 10:48 PM ^
Balls! I had Greenville +64.
December 2nd, 2020 at 10:53 PM ^
Read the title and thought for sure that was a typo.

Upon seeing the box score, Jim Harbaugh immediately signs Greenville HC to be new defensive coordinator.

There’s video of the begging of the game in the link

That link isn't working for me for some reason.

Watching some highlights here there are numerous times Illinois State is just lobbing the ball all the way up the court immediately after inbounding for an uncontested dunk or layup.
Greenville must play like Oklahoma State did against us with their hair on fire except they're exceptionally terrible at it. You can score a lot when your opponent's possessions usually end in about 2 seconds.
December 3rd, 2020 at 7:13 AM ^
Fun fact: Jack Harbaugh was doing color commentary
December 3rd, 2020 at 8:57 AM ^
That's impressive, and 8 year old doing color commentary? Nice!
December 3rd, 2020 at 12:23 PM ^
Wow.
A press team who can't press.
December 2nd, 2020 at 11:07 PM ^
I personally think it’s more impressive that a D3 scored 108 points in a loss to a D1 team...

Murray State dropped 173 on Greenville on Sunday.
December 2nd, 2020 at 11:37 PM ^
This was Greenville's fourth game against a Division I team this year (they're Division III). Here's how their other three games went:
- Sanford 174 (102 in the first half), Greenville 99 (75 point loss)
- Kansas City 138, Greenville 97 (41 point loss)
- Murray State 173, Greenville 95 (78 point loss)

Fail to play anything approaching defense and try to just out score your opponent only to fail miserably....something something football
December 3rd, 2020 at 4:30 AM ^
Fucking leave RichRod alone....
December 3rd, 2020 at 7:33 AM ^
Rich Rod is the one who propetuated football to this path of irrelevance. The people who kiss Rich Rods butt are the reason our fan base is so toxic. Please, remind me again, who was the last coach to win a big ten title? Who was the last coach to win multiple times against OSU? Those are THEE most important things Michigan football must achieve in order to be worth a damn. The wet noodle fans who've been drinking kool-aid over the past 14 years need to fuck off.

If Lloyd Carr would have been a man......
Nvm not worth the wear and tear on my thumbs, but I hope you have a Klonopin or Xanax nearby.
December 3rd, 2020 at 10:33 AM ^
Been a man? The only argument you along with your Rich Rod club sit on is "the cupboard was bare". It amazes how people can sit there and defend RR. Trying to use Lloyd Carr as a scape goat. Like, "it wasn't RR fault for lack of talent" or "he didn't have enough time." Oh cry me a river... If RR was a man he would've owned up to his shitting coaching ability. Instead he tried to act like the victim and some weak mind fans went right along with it. You understand that it was the famous OSU Kirk Hurtbutt that went on tv and cried for RR after he was fired? Blaming Michigan for letting him go. Are you telling me you agree with him? Now that smells like a troll.
Here's a lesson in life for you, don't blame others for your failures. Lloyd Carr was far from perfect, but at least he continued to keep Michigan relevant in his tenure. Good God what I'd give to have Michigan be relevant in football again.
December 3rd, 2020 at 12:02 PM ^
I was...uh...making fun at his lack of defense if anything, but carry on smartly, shipmate.
December 3rd, 2020 at 8:44 AM ^
Da'fuck are you even saying?
Please, sleep off your drunk just a little more, then come back and 'splain this post, mmmkay?

The Big XII left a message and would like to know what you find amiss with this approach.
December 3rd, 2020 at 12:05 AM ^
Illinois State shot 84.2% (!!!) from the field. 70 for 83. 8 of 16 on 3-pointers, so 62 of 67 inside the arc.
That obviously had to have been a whole lot of bunnies and lay-ups.
---------
Back in 1992, Troy State won a basketball game over DeVry University of Atlanta by a score of 253-141. Troy went 51 for 109 (?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!) on 3-pointers in that game.
So, Illinois State was still nowhere near the record.
December 3rd, 2020 at 3:55 AM ^
Greenville gives up uncontested layups/dunks whenever their full court press is beaten.
