“He was on the other side of the court, screaming: ‘Good shot, Kev!’” Durant said, shaking his head in delight. “I’m thinking, this guy’s an All-American type of teammate right there.”

to Bo's eyes in heaven, I sure hope so.
|2 days 22 hours ago||Agree with your points||
My take is based on moments of hubris (RR and Hoke) that are as bad as full-on hubris (Brandon).
Above all, I'm just thankful to have this forum for a little catharsis and the debate. Appreciate the comments and perspectives added here.

I've no idea of the validity and I'm wondering if others have heard the same. Schlissel is an academic and there's a thought that he's interested in significantly de-emphasizing athletics - therefore, a letter to him may embolden him, but to what direction for the athletics program nobody really knows.
Mary Sue was always interested in the perspective of the students, and having come from Iowa, knew the role of athletics in big college (B1G) life. If I recall correctly, Schlissel has no such point of reference in his background. I've heard he doesn't engage with students the same way, just the academics (students please confirm).
While Brandon has failed (to-date) at our marquee sports program, many of the others are in a much greater place than they were before his arrival. It should be no shock that he covets National Championships, and the Director's Cup trophy, over other things (athletes and coaches please confirm). And I do know from meeting him, he values player development as one of his top measures of what's to come. He told me years ago that Belien clearly develops players (this was before JB won a B1G), and pointedly implied RR did not.
Apologies for rambling a bit, but net-net, I'm interested in whether others have heard that we have a signficant risk in the direction Schlissel may take athletics. And who would be your chosen successor to Brandon. Someone like Jeremy Foley? Or a "Michigan Man"? Is Ward Manuel ready?

I needed an open-minded review of Lewis' PIs.
Hard to believe it all fell to one or two guys. Makes me think Countess is pressing while wearing that number.
|3 weeks 1 day ago||Magnus,||
I'm interested in your take on the D, as well as Brian's via UFR. It sure seemed to me that after the two PIs on ND's first drive, we stopped pressing as much, which led to being slanted to death. The line wasn't ever going to hit Golson much, what with 3-step drop after 3-step drop. By then the D was on its heels and never bumped a route the rest of the night. Obviously, my amatuer take.
On O, after missing the second FG, they seemed to give up the ghost as well.
This looked like a team that hung its collective head when the snowball started rolling downhill and the staff rode down with them.
If this team has a short memory regarding the scoreboard, they could respond well, but we won't know until after Utah.

how momentum just steamrolled Michigan at that point. At 7-3, or 14-6, there's a little confidence still, but not a break went Michigan's way tonight and they couldn't get out from under it.
|3 weeks 3 days ago||Actually,||
while I agree it borders cruel and unusual to ask Brian to UFR this hot mess, I need his even perspective to validate or give me pause in my take on some of the critical calls and non-calls early in the game.
Somehow, Michigan wasn't allowed to press, and ND molested WRs all game. I need Brian to help me be rational, because I have to deal with Domers all week long.

It's almost basketball season. WOO! B1G basketball!
Oh wait, haven't won a national title there either in a while.
Come on B1G hockey!!!
|3 weeks 3 days ago||The B10||
is officially irrelevant.
This conference might not sniff the playoff for the first 3 years.
|3 weeks 3 days ago||Certainly do.||
And that was a different line with two senior, about-to-be NFL lineman and the only coherent offensive game plan of the season.
Mattison got his scissors rocked after ND's first TD "drive". If the majority here thinks either PI on that drive was legit, I'll calm down, but I think it affected the DBs and they picked apart after and looked hesitant. Meanwhile, the third down drop by Funchess that some people mentioned, his left arm was clearly jarred before the ball arrived.
We weren't prepared, they were. We're not that bad, and they're not that good. And let's be honest, before we saw the O-line last week, we didn't really expect to win this one. Just hopeful because we bleed Blue.
|3 weeks 3 days ago||We can't have this discussion||
Until we have an experienced O-line again. Year 1 with a solid O-line showed something. The line has swiss cheese every since - which is not all his fault. I give him two more years. Either that or the next guy will look great with a mature team.
|3 weeks 4 days ago||What's||
And I understand it hurts for some, but the B10 needs those Ws.

Did I just hear it said that he was all ACC last year? Congrats kid!

you chase it with Vodka. (So good, it deserves to be capitalized.)
|4 weeks 3 days ago||But...||
For a match-up of top 15s, he's the color guy? Was there a bigger game of ranked teams today? To be in this game, I would expect a top 3 color guy. He's not that.
He's fine when he's talking defensive play and scheme, but I still find myself wincing half of the time he talks.

First text I got was on the way in, which was...
"FUNCHESS WEARING #1"
I thought I'd never see that jersey again, and have to say, I got a little verklempt.

we have to listen to Spielman for the W-LSU game.
He liked the playcall? LSU's score was a busted play!
Has he ever been good at this?

is like being mad at Santa Claus for bringing you a yellow bike with blue trim instead of the other way around.
You'd think people would learn the game of football with all that knowledge on the interwebs.

I suck at that.

...was Gerry Faust's dream job.
I'm not comparing Hoke to Faust, but a lot of JAGs, and high performeres, have dream jobs in which they don't excel.

I've been to Michigan games at Oregon, Wisc, Iowa, Illinois, NW, ND, IU, OSU, MSU, Penn St. I've also been to games at Purdue, Tennessee, Clemson, and Florida. I think I'm forgetting one or two.
Having grown up in South Bend, ND is tough to beat becuase though passionate, their fans and students are knowledgable and friendly. And for a big game (ND-Mich or ND-USC anytime, ND-Miami '88, etc.) few places are more electric.
I'll second Iowa and they come close to being better than ND because the town is more integrated with the campus. Iowa City is a nice town (though not quite Madison).
Do not second guess seeing a night game in the South. Go! Tenn @ Fla, SC @ Clem, Ala @ Tenn were all great atmospheres. The fans are all friendly with each other too, despite rivalries. The Tennessee fans were even cordial during a discussion of 1997. In all, they make the attitudes and language shared between fans at MSU and OSU games (or every day exchanges) even more ridiculous than they already seem.
I was very disappointed in Madison. I felt as threatened as I ever have at OSU. "Jump Around" was awesome to witness, and the city of Madison is fantastic. The students and fans were an embarassment.
|11 weeks 11 hours ago||Agree||
And when you consider the guy never made a public disgrace of himself (media kindness or not) in the toughest market in 'Murica...it's pretty impressive.
|11 weeks 12 hours ago||And before I could finish posting...||
...Cabrera launches one. For those in Detroit, home field in October would be pretty sweet.
|11 weeks 21 hours ago||Wow...||
Seth, what a fantastic piece.
I knew where it was going. A third of the way in, and still now a bit after reading it, I'm full of my own emotion. I lost my father 9 years ago. He gave me the same passion and interest in all sport, whether as a participant or avid fan. He taught me sportsmanship and respect through it. Like you, my post-game emotions would be exponential factors of his..."it's only a game" he'd say.
While I'm confident I could not have written such a great piece, I read it as if it were me. Thank you. And my heart goes out to you.
