COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – Haskell Garrett, 22, was injured during a shooting near the Ohio State campus, early Sunday morning.

The Columbus Division of Police says officers found a trail of blood and a shell casing near the 400 block of Chittenden Avenue around 12:28 a.m.

Parents of Ohio State athletes demand return of fall sports

The trail led officers to the 40 block of East 11th Avenue where 22-year-old Haskell Garrett was found, according to police.

Police state that the victim was shot in the cheeks of his face. Medics transported the victim to the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center in stable condition. Garrett is a senior defensive lineman at Ohio State.

I recently had to publish something in Ohio that mentioned OSU and I intentionally just called it "Ohio State University" without the "The." My editor didn't notice. It felt kind of childish that slighting them in such a way brought me pleasure, but I also find it childish that they place so much emphasis/importance in the definite article.

That dental work is going to suck and he's going to have a hard time keeping his weight up when every meal is liquid. But holy hell that sounds incredibly lucky, if you can define anything related to getting shot in the face as such

That's awful and I wish for a quick recovery without any longterm problems...

and when he does, if I'm one of his friends, he's going to be nicknamed Serpico from here on out.

(of course he and his buddies won't get the reference because they're not old farts)

A couple of years ago, Blazing Saddles was on cable, and I thought to myself, "this is a classic, and my son is about the right age..." I probably last saw it around the time it came out.

About 30 minutes later, I had this rather uncomfortable realization that satire, even if the heart's in the right place, can age very, very quickly. If you have to explain to your kids why something is satire, it makes you feel rather old and out of touch.

I hope he is doing well. Nothing to joke about here.

On a side note, I went to eleven warriors to see what their reaction is. A lot of it is blaming Warren for the incident! Pretty low, even for OSU fan standards...

I mean, OSU and all, but I hope the kid recovers with no ill effects or longterm problems.  It'll be interesting to learn what caused this and how it came about.

I saw a remarkable case once where someone was shouting "stop!" just as he was shot in the face. The bullet went into his open mouth and passed out the back of his head, missed all important structures and he was fine after recovery! Lucky guy, even saved all his teeth!

There is a lot of missing information here. Why didn't he or the owner of the apartment call for help? The police had to follow his blood trail to an apartment to find him.

Question is, why was he shot? I feel like you don't typically get shot in the face without first being involved in something a CFB player shouldn't be.

Maybe what they need is better behavior.  It would be statistically unlikely that he was shot due to a random act of violence ie a school shooting, particularly considering it happened at 12:28am, he fled the scene and didn't call the police, he was shot in the face, and there isn't any other victims being reported.  It is more statistically likely that he was involved in something that involved his own poor choices.  Don't want to be a victim?  Don't be hanging out on the street at 12:28am on a Sunday night with guys with guns.  Or do that, live with the consequences, and blame others.  I'll take the former.

Remember that time when a UM basketball player was driving the AD's sons car in the middle of the night after being seen drinking at bars earlier?  Remember when the police questioned him he said he was just passing by and didn't know how the car got there?  Remember when he gave the officers a false name?

Then, do you remember when people on this board legitimately tried to say maybe he was just giving the AD's son a ride home and it was all just a mix up, then brushed under the rug?

I do.

Statistically, perhaps you’re right.... BUT, information coming out now is that he was walking home from a friends and intervened in an argument between a man and a woman on the sidewalk.

Apparently, to you it’s rare for a college student to be out at 12:30 AM?  In my college experience it wasn’t all that unusual.

As far as hanging out with “guys with guns”.  How did you jump to that conclusion?

Are you suggesting that a 300 lb man should have just walked past a dispute taking place between a male and female?
