Definitely a trophy we can be proud to play for

From a product durability standpoint, probably not a great idea.  People are going to be hoisting/waving the trophy by the easiest place to grab (most likely near the base of the legs) and there is going to be a good deal of stress on the swivel point.  And if someone *drops* it...

I thought I read a while back that the trophy was going to be presented each year at halftime of the NW-UM basketball game.  I could totally be thinking of something else, but that might help to prevent it being run all over the place like Paul Bunyan or the Jug.

One side of the base of the trophy has a Michigan logo, the other has a Northwestern logo.  Presumably the winner will rotate so it's facing their side.  If they were going to have him rotate like you described, they should have made him 10x as large with glowing eyes.  Really up the ante.

We'll see if I do this right. But just in case I don't here is the picture from NW's twitter feed showing the statue rotated to their side of the base.

I wonder if Jewett's ancestors [edit: no, there will not be zombies on the field. I'm sure I meant descendants. Yeah, that's the ticket.] will be on hand for the inaugural trophy game. Per wikipedia:

Jewett was married on November 4, 1901, to Lillian Zebbs. They had two children, George H. Jewett (1902–1977) and Richard Jewett (born 1908).

Jewett died suddenly in 1908 at the age of 38, leaving his wife, Lillian, and two sons; his son Richard was eight days old when his father died.[6][18] Richard was the father of Coleman Jewett, well known Ann Arbor athlete, educator and craftsman, and grandfather of Michael Jewett, the host of 89.1 Jazz heard on weekday afternoons on WEMU radio.[6][19]

Also, based on this article about Coleman Jewett, I learned that Jewett Ave in AA is named after the family (perhaps grandfather George?). Also more on Michael Jewett

It really is a way super cool trophy. Let's keep it most of the time....like the Little Brown Jug. That is if we ever play Minnesota again. Now that I think about it again , we don't play NW very often anymore. Trophy games would be better if we played the teams every year.

I'm actually shocked, I guess this will only be Harbaugh's third game against Northwestern. I knew we didn't play last year, but I felt like we had played most of the years before that; actually only played in 2018 and 2015. I guess I must just be thinking of the Hoke years, where we seemingly played Northwestern every year (and pretty much every one was memorable)...

I believe that other than Wisconsin, we will play every other western team twice between 2016-2021, and then from 2022-2027 we play Nebraska annually and every other team twice more. So 2 years of not seeing most of the west is the new normal.

Which is why we oughta get rid of divisions, name a few permanent rivals, and rotate amongst everyone else so we see them about every other year. Top 2 teams play each other in Indy for the Big Ten 'ship, with tiebreaker rules discouraging rematches. It'd be FUN! And we'd play for the jug 5 times a decade instead of 4 times in a dozen years. And no longer would we complain that the west is undeserving.

Trophy looks slick and (as far as we know), Jewett is certainly worthy of the honor.

Although... it is curious how many people were of the opinion recently (especially with the developments of the Anderson scandal and what Bo & others did/did not know, not to mention in regard to various prominent historical figures) that we should stop naming things/buildings/places after people and putting them up on pedestals (since people are inherently human and thus likely to have character flaws).  Now we have a new trophy named after a person... literally with a person on a pedestal.

Strange times.

We tend to remember the bad ones but not the good ones. Like you said, almost every human being, including you and me, are going to have flaws. Same thing goes for corporations which are used widely to name buildings. We can't be afraid to cherish, but at the same time willing to take it down when additional information comes out in the future that didn't fit the picture. I can also go with just naming them after flowers and birds.
