| 8 hours 11 min ago | Saturday's game vs. the Twins |
is a 4pm start. Try to tune in for the pre-game tomorrow, MGoTigerFans---the Tigers will be honoring the 1968 World Champion Tigers in pe-game ceremonies, and Mario and Rod were promoting it during Friday's game. I'd be shocked if they didn't include some live coverage of the pre-game events. At least 12 members of that '68 team will be there, including Mr. Tiger, Al Kaline, and the old donut fryer, Mickey Lolich. Because of other commitments tomorrow, I've already set my DVR for 3 pm; at best, I'll be able to listen to most of the pre-game coverage on the radio, as Jimbo will be on the field for the ceremonies as a member of the '68 team. |
| 10 hours 16 min ago | Speaking of Founders |
Drank a couple of Founders All Day IPA's tonight; if Sanchez had gotten that no hitter for the Tigers, I was going to tap into one of my 3 remaining Founders KBS that I've stored away for special occasions. Alas, it's still stored away... |

Thought it was safe to take the dog out, then I come back and find the game's tied. Fido waits next time. Now we need a baserunner to get the winning rally started, but a lead-off ground-out isn't a good start. |
| 18 hours 56 min ago | Sure is great |
to hear the Michigan Pep Band adding to the atmosphere at Alumni Field , as we watch today's game on ESPNU! |
| 18 hours 59 min ago | And another great play |
this one at first base, ends the threat as Caitlin Blanchard dives to corral a sure 2-RBI hit and turns it into an out at first. Score that one 3-U on your scorecards, MGoSoftballFans! |

I want to express my surprise that no website has yet come up with commerative ND uniformz with feathers and/or helmetz complete with comb and wattles (I had to look that one up, it's that red "beard"-like thingie hanging from their beak) . Even thought something honoring imaginary girlfriends could be incorporated into the design... |

and (assuming each of those hits were HR's or at least for extra bases), I'm not sure yet which swing impressed me most. Subject to change, I'll call the top 3 of those as follows: 1) waaaay-inside pitch (looked like a hard slider) Incredible bat speed, being able to get the barrel out front on a pitch that would handcuff practically anybody else. 2) "your" pitch, down in the strikezone. Amazing ability to instantly recognize and adjust his swing is being shown, as he lines it towards the right-field stands. Like you said, a pop-up for most mere-mortals. 3) upper-inside strike (fastball?) that for the majority of hitters is a swing and a miss. Again, the bat speed wins this battle. The rest ? Shows that no pitcher can fool the man, no pitch is safe to throw, any swing can result in a souvenir to any kid sitting in the outfield seats armed with a glove and big dreams. |

| 1 week 6 days ago | First, a short visit by me |
and my son, along with my daughter and granddaughter, at my ex mother-in-law's here in town. Then off to north of GR, stopping in at moms and bringing along again my offspring and granddaughter for most of the afternoon. Mom/Grandma/Great Gramma will have a house full, and we're all bringing the food and treating her like a queen today. Last stop will be special in its own way---I have a new niece, just 2-weeks old (born over 2 weeks early, BTW, by C-Section), and my 4-yr old granddaughter can't wait to see her for the first time. It will be a bittersweet first Mother's Day for my sister-in-law---her husband (my youngest brother) died suddenly of a heart attack last October, within a month after they learned they were expecting and just days after seeing her by ultrasound. My sister-in-law is still recovering physically from the C-Section, as well as emotionally from all she's had to go thru alone; she has her own mom staying with her indefinitely to help her thru the process. I'm sure a tear or two will be shed. |
| 2 weeks 1 hour ago | Teatherball |
I was the king of teatherball during recess back in my day. I have pictures: (that's me, on the left)
It could also be added as a Women's sport: ...sure to become a revenue sport!
We could even go with equestrian teatherball, so as to make better use of the stables
...once Polo is added. |

I had to stop reading (this is a good thing, though) after the very first section of Ace's write-up. Why? One of the best jobs of trolling Sparty I've ever seen by any of the staff of MGoBlog . Had me laughing audibly immediately and again as I re-read it a couple of times. From the opening comment of"East Lansing's Big Ten Team..." to the jump and everything in between, great job (especially the inclusion of the unusually insightful RCMB post). Thanks, Ace! Now back to reading the rest of it... |

also have a bye week Oct. 26 (I was thinking about doing the same, and already looked it up), but they do have a home game vs. Les Miles and LSU on 9/28. Me? On 9/28 I have my high school class reunion. And on 10/26, well, being that the 2013 World Series starts on 10/23 and ends on or before 10/31, ... I'm sure hoping it has my full attention that Saturday! |
| 2 weeks 6 days ago | Nice comment at the end regarding Denard and Devin |
managing their time well---both found the right balance between very demanding football careers and their studies at a very demanding university (yeah, I know, athletes do get some extra tutoring, etc. to help them negate the demands of their athletic schedules) ---and one graduates on time and the other early! Congratulations to both of them and all their fellow grads today. How many times did we (either in person or on TV) see Denard (in particular) and other athletes in the crowd at other athletic events enjoying their college experience? And yet, their studies were not neglected, so today they reap the rewards, that diploma that should evolve into their own personal proverbial "pot-of-gold at the end of the rainbow", once their athletic careers end.

find this part of the OP at all surprising:
"At this point Joseph Medill, a former Ohioan now publisher of the Chicago Press and Tribune, who had been asked by Lincoln's managers to sit with the Ohio delegation to prevent a defection to Seward of Ohio's votes, most of which had been committed to Salmon Chase and favorite son Benjamin Wade, whispered to David Cartter that if the 4 votes from Wade's delegates were switched from Chase to Lincoln, “Ohio would be well cared for.” After a few moments Cartter stood: “I rise, Mr. Chairman, to announce the change of four votes of Ohio from Mr. Chase to Mr. Lincoln.” The nomination was Lincoln's. That was Medill's story, anyway. Cartter claimed that it wasn't just Ohio, but Cartter himself, that Medill had promised would be “well cared for,” and he came to Washington after the inauguration to lay claim to the governorship of the Nebraska territory that he said Medill had promised him."
...that an ohioan would be involved in underhanded, sneaky behavior leading to improper benefits?

| 3 weeks 5 days ago | As a season-ticket holder since 1977 |
I have to disagree with you on somehow anything diminishing the importance of Michigan vs. Ohio State at the end of the regular season. There simply is no way that these two teams playing each other at Lucas Oil (or at any other venue, if and when the B1G decides whether to rotate the Conference Championship Game to other locations) could ever replace the spectacle of The Game being played on campus. Would I still go if that's the only place these two teams were to play in a given season? Hell yes (and I plan on making sure I'll be at Lucas for this season's CCG)! But it wouldn't be the same for the fans of each school, and I'm pretty damn sure it wouldn't be the same for the teams, the players, the coaches, the bands...everyone involved, if Michigan vs ohio only happened in the CCG. A huge part, as most of us know, of being a college football fan, and especially of being a season ticket-holder, is that these games are first and foremost about the game itself, but also about renewing friendships with people you know thru whatever the association with your favorite school might be. Whether it be with fellow alumni, friends you always go to the games with, fellow fans you've built up friendships with simply because you've sat next to them thru some of the fiercest on-the-field battles you can imagine, people you've tailgated with for years, you look forward to that entire day/entire weekend even if they might be with someone who shares that experience with you just once every year or two. Does this mean that we fans are the most important thing here? Not at all. But college rivalry games wouldn't be the same if the on-campus element were to be taken away. Imagine a season without Michigan vs ohio, if you can, and honestly tell me that it's not a scary thought. I'm looking forward to this November 30th and seeing/being a part of The Game for the 20th time (my 19th consecutive one at Michigan Stadium plus 1 at the horseshoe), and there is NOTHING bigger on my schedule this coming fall, including the potential 21st one the following week in Indy! |

thinking along the same lines as I am, but your 6-year chart does a better job of illustrating it. Using the phrase, "staggers home/away to achieve the desired effect" goes a long way in describing how the process of scheduling such an awkward set-up would work. Very, very likely, though, that in a few years the whole thing is re-drawn with the next round(s) of expansion. |
